        Inside Man

Very good movie, and very Spike Lee making the movie as his own image. Denzel, while playing the same persona as he always does, finds his way into a different kind of character each time, despite how one-dimensional everyone claims him to be. I personally love Clive Owen twice as much as I used to now, having only seen him in Sin City, Shoot 'Em Up, and Derailed. For something with some good tension, it also played out pretty slowly, which wasn't necessarily bad. I watched it on BET and got a lot of muting to censor language, so I wonder how much I'd like it with an excessive use of F-bombs, etc.

There's a sequel in the works, coming out next year. I assume I'll see it in theaters, and hope it can hold up well with the original.

I thought Shoot Em Up was a god-awful movie.

I watched Black Hawk Down again on blu-ray over the weekend, wow that movie is intense!!!

Just watched Terminator: Salvation I guess I can understand why a lot of long time Terminator fans didn't like it, but I thought it was good. The dialog, IMO, is what kept the movie from being great.

Heh, I'm a fan. I love Paul Giamatti much the same. I thought parts could have been left out (sky-diving scene), but I liked most of it. Wasn't too dynamic in sound, though.

And to think I have had this movie in my possession for about a month now, unseen... and can't even put it in my PS3.

                  Bride Wars

Ugh, this was crap. And it's not even like "this is crap" like I knew what kind of movie it was when I was going to watch it. On a technical level, it was just awful. After the first hour, the movie completely lost focus: strange plot devices, sudden character mood swings, and completely uninteresting conflict resolution. They should have better decided what kind of movie they wanted to construct, and lost faith in one component and decided to go with the other.

That aside, the movie was hokey, clichéd, and uninspiring. Hathaway and Hudson may be lookers, but did they have to make every other female character in this movie butt ugly for contrast purposes? And it seemed they wanted to better incorporate the husbands in the movie, but they basically played extras. This is an overall problem with movies where females portray the dominant character, and I don't mean to say this in a sexist tone... it's just that the male role gets dumbed down to nothingness, and we see nothing but left and right bitching where no guy is able to just step in and show how immature they're being.

Even my little sister, who was the one that DVR'ed this movie and just made my mom and I watch it with her, fell asleep during it. Honestly, I don't know how a movie like this gets approved to film, or how these actresses even sign onto crap like this.

I recenly watched Adulthood and Surrogates. Adulthood was the follow up to a great UK flick called Kidulthood. While it wasn't as good as the original, it was still a very good movie. I can't wait to check out more of Noel Clark's work. Surrogates was eh.

Saw Disney's A Christmas Carol at the theater on Sunday with the family and it was fantastic.

Watched Scrooged that night with my wife, for the first time, and came away extremely disappointed.

After watching Star Trek (09) in the theaters months ago, finally got the blu ray from Netflix. Already a great movie with a near perfect blu ray transfer. Gotta get this when it drops to the $15-16 dollar range.

                            Mirrors

I must say, I was rather impressed. I don't recall this movie getting much publicity by critics, word of mouth, or in the box office... then again, I don't know what it was running up with. But in the end, this doesn't pass off as "just another stupid horror movie." It definitely wasn't the best ever by any means, but it held its own end of the bargain playing off an original concept (although throwing in many unoriginal ideas and clichés meanwhile), and that's what I appreciate. In a nutshell, it's a movie including paranormal events revolving around an alternate mirror word intertwining with our own, and for the first three quarters of the movie it keeps that feel of a "realistic environment", all being told that it completely isn't. Kind of like The Ring.

Though, like most horror movies, it doesn't ever really seem to end well. This is one reason why I do like The Ring, because with the back-story included and everything, it doesn't try to overdo what it started from the beginning. This movie, like others, does tend to escalate the ending beyond something we led ourselves into when first anticipating watching it. And while the ending does have a nice little twist at the end, it goes unexplained. Kind of my biggest quirk with most horror movies these days; that, or it explains something that interferes with some historical event for the worse, or has some weird scientific explanation behind it making it weirder than usual.

Aside from Phone Booth and Stand By Me, this is my first time seeing Kiefer Sutherland in a movie. I know him too well as Jack Bauer and I thought that would be an issue when watching this movie, but this time he was almost anything but the Jack Bauer we know and love. He was scared, and it felt real. He experiences a moment of craziness around the middle of the film, and it feels both believable and sympathizing. He was a great lead role, and I'd like to see him in more movies perhaps without a gun of any kind. He does overpower only once, but it is completely emotionally driven and not within his character, so you don't feel like the writers just wanted him to have a little Jack Bauer within him all along.

The movie has its scares, but that's not really the reason I wanted to watch it. While somewhat surprisingly gory, some of the CGI unfortunately doesn't look too real, and therefore detracts from the movie experience. Nonetheless, this did look to be more of a big-budget kind of horror movie, and compared to those that I have seen recently that didn't seem to spend their money well producing crap, I think they handled their budget about as well as they could have. Though again, when visual effects come into play, some of them were just not on par with the rest of the movie's delivery.

I don't agree with the overall 6.1 IMDb rating and think it should be a bit higher, although some do consider that a decent rating for this kind of film, and considering I can't rank it up next to The Ring (which sits at 7.2 on IMDb), I'd say that ratio is rather close to proportionate. I don't have any intention of buying this movie or necessarily recommending it to anyone, but you have my approval if you ask whether you should watch it if you're given the choice.
