Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
The Toxic Avenger (1984)
Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman
87 Minutes
Unrated
This is your basic 80's cheesy horror movie. It uses lots of really bad 80's music, has really bad acting, has pretty low quality production, has a dumb story, and has some really gory and nasty death scenes.
The basic idea is that this guy becomes infected by toxic waste and becomes The Toxic Avenger. As you can guess, the rest of the movie is filled with people being killed. The movie has no real value to it, but the death scenes are pretty dam good and were the only reason to watch the movie. There were quite a few times I found myself about to pick up my 360 controller and quit out of it, but then suddenly someone was about to die a gruesome death, so I let it continue.
I ended up finishing the whole thing, but there's really nothing to say about the movie other than it's really, really bad, but it has some really good death scenes.
Final Verdict: If you're into gory deaths, go for it. They're not the best of the best, but they're pretty good at times. Although, the bits in between may make you want to turn the movie off. If you're not, skip it entirely; the movie is of absolutely no value to you.

Wow people are taking the reviews in this thread seriously! I'm kidding obviously as sometimes i'll talk endlessly about a movie I like or dislike. It's just cool to see the passion in hereMember of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Lol yeah Seth Green's was hilarious. I watched the "unrated / uncut" version and they threw a bunch of naked women into a bunch of different parts of the movie (like an obvious photoshop type job it looked like) which was weird but pretty nice to see.Shame they threw some naked dudes in there as well.

I'm about to get into the Riddick movies. I just never had a liking for Diesel, but I'm past that and going to give them a look. I'm making sure I see the 2nd one on Blu-Ray as I saw the first few scenes and it appears BD worthy. Any impressions (w/o spoilers)?Comment

Even if you don't like the genre, I think you'll want to watch the whole thing.
Can't comment on the Chronicles of Riddick films that followed as I never saw them."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Watched this on Sunday.
I thought it was great as well, but mostly for the message than the funnies.
Not saying it wasn't a funny film. It actually achieves what a lot of the newer CG cartoons have been unable to do: sustain laughter through plot.
You won't laugh out loud from start to finish, but you will laugh several times through the film. When it seems as if the story couldn't introduce comedy again, it finds a way to make you laugh. To me, that's the truest test of comedy: Will I laugh later in the film once the plot has been established. This film survived.
As for the message: I bit over the head for children (not complaining), but extremely effective. I enjoyed that I went to the film with about 7 other friends all at least 25 and the film appealed to us.
I don't have any children, but if CG films can continue heading in this direction, making it a goal to appeal to adults while making kids laugh and giggle with enjoyment, then I will continue to support films in the theater."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I still need to see Chronicles of Riddick. Please let us know what you think in comparison to Pitch Black."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
It's not in the same league imo (chronicals that is). Pitch Black is a very well done movie where as C of R is clearly a more expensive attempt at cashing in on the success of the first. It's not the worst movie in the world by any means but despite obviously having a much bigger budget than the first movie the movie / story is not as good. All imo of course....Comment

Brooklyn's Finest-Pretty entertaining I love movies like this and it didn't dissapoint. Don Cheadle is one of my favorite actors and thought he was great in it. Ethan Hawke eh I just always find him annoying.
The Informant-Great movie! Definitely entertaining and I didn't know it was based on a true story.
The Descent 2-I liked it til the end. I was literally screaming at my tv telling her to get out of the cave.
thanks for the tip on Brooklyn's finest! I really liked that movie!
I recommend anyone to watch really, it's a pretty good flick!Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Predators - Meh. I do not buy Adrian Brody in a male action lead role. It didn't happen in King Kong and it certainly isn't happening here. And really this is my major gripe with the film. The voice was forced and the lone, bad-*** mysterious action guy seemed even more forced. It seemed like they wanted Christian Bale, didn't get him, so they got AB and told him to act like Christian Bale. Also, some of the scenes seemed needless and uninteresting. Topher Grace was the best thing about the movie, IMO.

I don't know why he isn't starring in any movies, or at the very least playing bigger supporting roles.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
