Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Have a new question. As some of you know I bought the Panasonic GT31 (55 inch) about a month ago and I love it. And still do. But there's one thing that's botherig me that I just started to notice. From what I can gather its rather common and may just be part of owning a Plasma. It is very difficult to describe and there's a YouTube video that shows exactly what I'm experiencing perfectly. But it is very hard to see on the video.
What I'm talking about is line bleeding, if that is the correct term. Very, very light shadows will appear usually along menus and in video games that have static images on the screen. These shadows, or bleeds will be impossible to see in most scenes or gameplay but you can see them when the screen has a dark image on it.
It is very similar to the banding issue I had with an LED/LCD. This is not something I'm looking to return the TV over as its not an issue 90% of the time. The 10% of the time it is an issue it is minor, but annoying nonetheless.
My question is, first of all is this normal? Secondly, is there any way to fix it or does this eventually fade over time as I've read in a couple of online forums?
When I first got the TV I was looking it over for any defaults, including the fluctuating brightness problem. I didn't see anything. It seems odd to me that I would have missed something like this. So that gives me some reason to believe that it might have just started happening.
I tried different HDMI cables but that did not help. Someone suggested to me that it might be some kind of faulty wiring. But whatever I've tried, the problem persists.
Again, I must stress how minor of an issue this is. And again, this is in no way image retention or permanent. It only happens when images are on the screen like menu bars or health bars in a video game.
Thanks for any help/input.Comment

Yes that is line bleed and happens on plasmas. Is normal and cannot be fixed as this is part of the plasma nucleus.Comment

Alright, thanks. Its just strange that I didn't notice it before. I was looking for things like this. It really seems like it just started happening. So it won't get any worse over time, right?Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Slightly off topic but..... you can get a VIZIO HD soundbar (refurb'ed) for $55 shipped. Normally $100 Good for better sound (obviously not better than surround sound) without running wires.
Update: Expired

Should not but some tvs are better then others at hiding it. I got my pn59d7000 Samsung plasma on wednesday and it buzzes like a mosquito. Amazon is sending a rep next Tuesday.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a 32" - 42" inch TV for my bedroom in new apartment. I'll be using this TV primarily for playing sports video games and watching a lot of sports (mostly hockey). I was wondering what you guys could recommend for me to look at. I'm not looking to spend more than 500 - 600 bucks as I'm really trying to get a bang for my buck. Due to the size I'm looking for, I'm guessing LCD is the way to go. Do you guys have any recommendations or TV's you like for sports gaming / watching sports?NHL: Dallas Stars
MLB: Texas Rangers
NBA: Dallas MavericksComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
ChadB also came to my house north of Pittsburgh to calibrate my DLP about 6-7 years ago. He's a really good guy and did a good job.
This is simply my personal opinion, but after using a DVD to calibrate that TV and then having Chad come out to calibrate it, I didn't see a ton of difference. I'm sure I would have seen a difference if I had two TV's side by side - one calibrated by Chad and the other by a DVD. So when I bought my PN63C8000 a year or so ago and came up with some settings that I think look very good, I chose to forgo the professional calibration.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Just choose your calibrator wisely.
I have settings on my PN7000 that are outstanding and are the same that were given by a calibrator
I enabled the cal night and day picture settings from the Service Menu and those are excellent sources to dial in your settings.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I am using some settings from the AVS forum and they look great, but Chad B. comes HIGHLY recommended by pretty much everyone I have talked to and I have the extra cash laying around so why not?
I am thinking about having him calibrate my old LN40A750 (which is my bedroom TV) while he is here as well but haven't decided if it is worth it to me yet. I'll have him take a look at it when he gets here tomorrow and then decide.Comment
