Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Well, now I'm looking up reviews for the 51" model vs the 59" model, and while the 59" model probably has better black levels (and is bigger), there are a lot of complaints about the TV buzzing and the screen "peeling" from the real black filter sheet melting due to overheating.
I really hope to not expect either of these issues, but it sounds like this could be plaguing. Has anybody noticed anything like this?
I got the 59" 6500 for $1450 off amazon - nice TV, except mine buzzes too loud for my taste. That's hit and miss with all these Samsungs I think though. I didn't want to risk the 7000 with the peeling issue, plus the 6500 seems better bargain.
Im sitting 10 feet away, stepped up from a 46 inch - at first the 59 seemed huge but awesome - now I feel I could go 65 easy.Comment

Except if you got a model from July on then you should be good because Samsung changed the filters to fix the matter.
If you buy today then I am sure you will not have the issue
I have a 59D7000 July and it has not peeled at all in 3 months
The buzz is there on all plasmas. But some are worst then others
I returned my first one because it was horrible and the second one I got was much better but still can hear it if you turn the volume off and are in dead silenceComment

The 6500 is not a bad deal but the 7000 is a better set
The RBF makes a world of a difference with black level and reflections
I got the 59D7000 for $1500 from Amazon with a blu ray and 2 3d glasses thrown in for good measure. I say it was a stealComment

I just want to make sure I have the newest and best toy from Samsung, at least where I'm not paying for excessive web features and such that I won't ever use.
G4N, if I manage to scoop up the deal that you got, I wouldn't ever look back. Let me know if you ever see that kind of deal again.
I would go for the 64" model if I was a couple of more feet away (especially when I move out of the house, that way I don't have to look back and regret anything), and if the price increase wasn't so significant. I'm willing to take a little bit off for the 59" of course. At least it will have notably better black levels than the 51" (I'm not saying significantly, just notably).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm very much interested in the real black filter, for one. Plus, I heard that it's the same panel as the 8000, and is slightly improved from the 6500. I know this measure doesn't mean anything really, but the contrast ratio is also 3x vaster on the specs sheet.

Yea man, I will let you know but is always best to shop on Amazon for a tv even if is a pain having to wait for a return or delivery to process at times.
I saved about $1000 with all I got instead of getting it at Best Buy
The Black Levels are indeed better on the 59-64 model over the 51
Not to say that the 51 is not very good with the blacks, because they are but the blacks are better on the bigger size sets
The 8000 is the same as the 7000 but with a qwerty remote and web browser which who the hell cares really.
The color accuracy in general is a bit better on the 8000 but the 7000 is fantastic as well.
The one thing I do miss about the 8000 is that it has ARC which does not come in the 7000 for some reason.
ARC allows you to get DD sound from streaming sites like Netflix but I have my Xbox Live or PS3 to watch Netflix.
Real Black Filter is a terrific addition and does make the pq even betterComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I wasn't planning on getting it at Best Buy anyway, but that might have to do with the fact they don't sell the model.
Right, I was going to make note about the ARC, but again, this is irrelevant to me. The RBF thing will be huge, especially if I move somewhere with poor window location/lighting. That said, I'll be looking out for the 7000 series for now. I'm hoping it will drop again sometime around Black Friday, if not for that actual day (in which case, I really have to be on top of my game).
Best Buy has the 59D7000 and 51D7000

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
But Christ alive! Unless they would honor Amazon's prices (which they assuredly would not ever do), there's no way in hell I'm going there to buy it. The good thing about doing it there, though, would be that I would nearly instantly renew my premier silver status lol, plus I would get over $50 in gift certificates back with the purchase (not that it's a lot or even covers the tax on it, but it's at least a little bit). At least I could always get free shipping with it, but unless they reduced the price on it by over $500, Amazon it will be.Last edited by Blzer; 10-14-2011, 03:24 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Interesting. They weren't selling it in my store, which is why I figured they didn't have it at all. Good to know, though.

Plus, I think Amazon has a cheaper price than that right now.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Thanks, but again, I'm going to wait for that sub-$1600 price tag if possible. I still need to get a stand and everything, so I'm really trying to not dig deep into my pockets with this one (at least to justify it to my parents).
