Try watching the football games tonight on the same TV. Any NBC and CBS broadcast will trump ESPN and FOX in terms of detail (not motion though). Well, FOX broadcasts suck either way, but you get the point.

maybe not the lower end ones. No offense by lower end, I purchased Panasonic's 50" online and cancelled right afterwards when I decided to go LCD. The one I was looking at was something like $599 (boxing day price) I believe normally $799 - Samsung was the biggest competitor for the same price. I was standing in the store before buying my UN55ES6001 constantly moving and looking at the panasonic to see if I could live with it. it WAS in store lighting, but I asked if the brightness could be jacked up more, when she said no I just didn't want to risk it, called the online store while waiting in line with my new choice and cancelled it.

I could see more detail in the blacks from panasonic, for example girl with long brown hair, at night outside I can see a bit of detail in her hair on the shadow side of her face, none on samsung, but samsung's WAS brighter overall.

In the top-end, vary expensive models I think it's general consensus that panasonic is the best and also perhaps brightest. There is one brand that might be better, forget the name but it's 2X the price ath ethe higher levels like 6k or so

Most people don't watch tv in rooms where those ratings would be applicable. People actually have windows, lights, etc and don't have home theaters.

Black out shades? Plus, Panasonic has anti glare screens.

Unless people work on the graveyard shift, they don't want to live in a cave and most likely don't even know those exist. Anti glare also tends to darken it a little. The TV is good, but for most people, LEDs are better. If you compare calibrated ones, then you end up saying Panasonic is better.

You need to learn that most people want a theater room if they can do it....not only do I get many of those set ups, but it is quite scary how often it happens.

That's a small minority. Most home theaters now have to be multifunctional serving as a den, living room, family room (not a pitch black dedicated home theater).

There is a reason why plasmas only have a small share of the market and only 3 "brand name" manufacturers. Even with plasmas having a "better" picture the majority still choose LCD/LED.

They'd rather have a brighter, worry-free, less glare set and will gladly accept the slight to moderate drop in picture quality. Some will never try a plasma based on past experiences or what somebody told them.

Not me. I would still go plasma all over again. My set it now I think 4 years old and still looks good as new.

Understood. Like I said earlier in this thread I'm a plasma guy (own 2) but I understand why most people choose (rightly or wrongly) LED/LCD sets.

This year's model, they are going pretty inky deep with their blacks.

I will be picking up a tv this weekend and I don't know which type is best extended viewing(tv on a ALL THE TIME). My wife/daughter and I work different shifts so the tv is ALWAYS on. Would a plasma be ok if its on 15-20 hrs a day? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an LED LCD is your best option for your situation.
