Ditto. The all-mighty Fawkes. It was weird going into The Pitt without his assistance. I definitely missed that gatling laser canon of his.

Pretty sure he does have a health bar, but I can't remember if you can heal him. However, there is a perk that you can get at a midrange level that allows Dogmeat to have puppies. So you basically have an infinite supply of dogs to accompany you in case one dies.

I got the GOTY a little while ago to play through the add-ons. Finally found time over the past two weeks.
            My favorite was Point Lookout.
            Least favorite was Operation Anchorage.

Point Lookout was awesome. I've only played Point Lookout, The Pitt, and Operation Anchorage so far. And I agree, OA was underwhelming.

Is it better to wait on the DLC and finish the true mission first?

As soon as you step out of the vault, you're given radio broadcasts to jump into the DLC content, but I'm afraid that I will die with lack of experience points.

I thought that was over level 20? I think it came with Broken Steel

You are right. Level 22. YankeePride, it doesn't really matter what you do with the DLC. Just make sure you install Broken Steel so that you can increase the level cap. I did it after I beat the game and there was no problem, but I'm sure you could do it before as well.

Broken Steel quest doesn't open up until you finish the main quest. Point Lookout was designed to be harder. I had a level 20+ character, carrying lots of Stimpaks and still died a lot.
I'm not sure how the other 3 would be with a lower level character. They were all challenging in parts.

                          Thanks, guys.

I'm going to finish the main quest first so I can enjoy how the game was packaged originally.

I like that the DLC takes place in other cities so I'm hoping that will be a nice change of scenery and pace.

I did Operation Anchorage and the Pitt early on. I found it helpful because of the weapons you get (especially in OA) will come in handy in the main story.

I was looking to pick this game up.. but seen all the good reviews for red dead redemption.

Anyone have any recommendations? Fallout 3 or RDR? I'm kind of on the fence between the two
