Re: Red Dead Redemption
Eh, I don't think it's the violence alone that gets people on edge but rather the mix of violence, mature themes AND cursing. In our culture violence isn't the worst thing in the world which is the opposite of European culture where violence is reviled but sexuality is quite open.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Needless to say if I do buy the game I won't have the problem of kids being around me.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Red Dead Redemption
R* violence is usually quite tame from GTA, so I don't expect it to be very graphic. The language is what kills it for me.
I'm still getting it, and will play it late at night, just bummed that they turned it into that.Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
I don't have any kids around either, but still, I play games right in the living room and I wouldn't like playing a game with too much M-rated stuff going on around my wife.

And I don't understand why people are shocked this stuff is in a western? Ever see some of the old Eastwood movies?Actually...believe it or not from my physique... I'm a light eater - Clay T. ShaverComment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Agree, but my wife is less likely to ever say anything to me about a guy getting shot, than if she heard my character calling women C bombs. That's a word I've never even said let alone care to hear in a game. That's just my disappointment with it.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
there is a reason they have a ratings system. a game like this is rated appropriately
MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
C word or not, this game is not for kidsComment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
If I have kids, I'll raise them the same as I was raised.
they can play/watch whatever they want. I'm not talking about a 6 year old, but like if I had a 12 year old I'b buy the game for him if he wanted it (as a birthday present or christmas etc.)
I was always allowed to watch movies with my parents no matter the rating except for one because it was getting a little too crazy (blue velvet, scene with Dennis Hopper going absolutely banana's with that girl)
nudity and swearing or violence didn't matter. I used to watch Conan a few times every week.
I think the key was they were in the room too when I was younger and pointed out very clearly fiction and reality etc.
I'm not saying others should do that too, just that it worked out for me - actually I'm probably a little too empathetic. I also studied this briefly in University too. The only negative consequence of videogames IMO is increased sedentary lifestyle.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

But once I started playing Sonic at 3 years old, there was no stopping me from thenComment
