    Re: ArmA 2 (PC, 360, PS3)

Day Z is just a continuous open game style. You spawn with a gun and a few supplies (food and water because you need to eat and hydrate) and death is permanent. The tough part is you spawn without a map or compass. The game does tell you where you at the beginning of your spawn but that is it. A lot of comm is needed with other survivors, some who are bandits and will lure you in only to kill/rob you blind.

It is awesome when you find a group though and can survive and build up supplies. The game is constantly being updated and hopefully continues to get better and better.

Do you use Six updater? I used it to download some mod files. Can I use that to download ACE or do I need to manually dl some files. Being in the UK makes it difficult during the week but am always down on the weekends. Long weekend this weekend too!

I manually installed ACE. I have not used any of the "updaters" such as Sixer.

Lets try and hook up this weekend. I "should" be home, might be going out of town but nothing set in stone yet.

I love this video. Just two un-military guys using zero tactics and just record some epic footage. Around the 3:30 mark when the attack copters come in it gets crazy.

Most badass thing about ARMA is that this will never play out this same way even if they did this same mission 100 times. Random events make it so unique.

Then watch this and you can tell the difference ACE makes. They are using ACE mod here you can tell by the sounds.

No I have the CD version; however, we should still be able to hook up online to do coop. My user name is Brv Hrt.

As far as sixupdater, you can use that to download ACE. I utilize sixupdater and run it everytime I go into the game because it will automatically update you to a specific servers mods, or update your ACE mods to the most updated version without having to re-download the entire mod again.

                      Re: ArmA 2 (PC, 360, PS3)

It would be nice if we could get some other guys from OS and start doing some missions together or running as a group in Day Z.

Me and X attempted 3 missions last night. All ended pretty bad lol.

Mission 1: 2010 Afghanistan, we are sent in to clear a village of known AL Qaeda resistance. Lets just say we got pinned down and destroyed.

Mission 2: A special forces group is sent in with the task of retrieving a downed pilot who is being held hostage. Our mission is to sneak behind enemy lines and rescue the pilot and get out fast before enemy reinforcements arrive.

Me and X started our trek behind enemy lines toward the city that the pilot was being held in. It was pouring raining and a long hike, while we attempt to hurry before the sun comes up to high. We by pass a village with enemy troops without firing a shot and continued for our target. We then make our away about 500 yards from the city and are forced to make a decision how we were going to strike the city. We chose to come up the street head on. Where we were located there was a hill with forest on both sides of us and we were in the valley between buildings.

As the first shot rang out and dropped our first tango, the battle started. It was pretty fast we realized we were caught in a bad area. Troops were coming over the hills on both sides of us and firing hidden from the forest. I managed to drop a couple on our left flank right before a grenade went off next to me killing me instantly.

As I spawned as one of our remaining soldiers. X was on our right attempting to stop the flanking troops. I continued raining lead down on the left hill and looked as if I cleared it so I told X, I am making a run for the pilot.

I managed to make it all the way to the pilots holding cell and got him out. I radio back to X and let him know we got him we got to get the hell out of here. We have 3 soldiers dead, 3 wounded, 1 in good shape, and 1 pilot with no weapons. I tell him we got to head away from the troops that were in coming.

X was attempting to making it to me, but he was wounded and would pass out from blood loss repeatedly. After we final managed to link up we headed into the forest to get to the extract point. It looked as if we would be home free as long as X does not die on the way. SNAP SNAP SNAP gun fire opens up in front us and we are ambushed in the forest. The pilot takes a round in the process and the mission is a failure. We did not get him out alive.

I wanna try this mission again, but instead of attacking village head on come from the back forest!

Mission 3: Our final mission of the night, was a night mission. We were dropped in by blackhawk to destroy weapon caches in a Al Qaeda village. We also had air support by little birds roaming over head. This mission quickly broke into a fire fight and tons of tracer fire as the little birds rained hell on the village. We slapped on the night vision, strobe lights on our vests, and lasers on our weapons and pushed into the village. Our squad made our way up the left flank of the village and made contact pretty quick. We quickly dropped our first targets and kept on the move.

We made decision to setup at this wooden barn that had a huge rock out in front. The rock provided excellent cover and the barn was perfect for managing our wounds. Me and X each took a side of the rock and went to work dropping targets. But these lil ****** were like ants they just kept coming from every where. We were handling them until several ended up getting close enough to toss grenades. We both didn't get killed by them, but we took shrapnel which wounded both of us. I was wounded in arm which made my firing hell to maintain. X was wounded in leg and could not walk, so he stayed in the prone just throwing lead. Eventually they over ran our position with just a sheer numbers game.

3 Mission all failures, but that is the name of the game in ARMA. You must plan & execute your missions to the T. If your tactics are not perfect you will suffer. Plus when things change on the battlefield you have to adapt and make life saving decisions instantly. It is a tough game, but real life war is very tough. When you complete a mission successfully in ARMA, there is no better feeling!

That should run reasonably well. I'd recommend a few changes though:

CPU - Instead of the i5 2400, get the 2500k. It's only $10 more (after coupon code), but far more future proof as it's unlocked for overclocking.

RAM - I'd go with this RAM instead. 1866 is a little faster, but not enough to warrant the extra $$.

Power Supply - Kind of iffy. I'm not familiar with that brand. I, personally, would go with this OCZ model instead as it is a bit cheaper (after rebate) and gets better reviews. Plus, I have an OCZ power supply that has worked flawlessly.

Video Card - Not a bad choice, but if you can afford it, it would probably be a good idea to upgrade to the model with 2GB of video memory. ArmA 2 is notorious for eating a lot of video memory. This MSI model looks good and currently has a rebate offer. Alternatively, you could look at the AMD HD 6950 (this model currently has a promo code and rebate which will make it a bit cheaper than the Nvidia GTX560Ti...plus 2GB of vid mem and good reviews). Either card will serve you well. I've seen some folks claim that Nvidia cards generally run ArmA 2 smoother, but I doubt there's much of a difference between the 2GB 560Ti and the 6950.

Oh, and FYI, none of your links are working.

How do you not know PC Power & Cooling? They are one of the leaders in power supplies. I would personally put nothing else. Fantastic power supplies with rock solid rails and very small failure rates.

Also PC Power and Cooling is owned by OCZ. Personally I thought they made better products before OCZ bought them out. I have been running their power supplies for as long as I can remember.

While Arma 2 is a demanding game it is also 3 years old. Newer hardware will smash it. What you need to be building for is Arma 3.

Also Phobia isn't kidding about Coop. It is awesome but we need more players!

Also PC Power and Cooling is owned by OCZ
I guess I should have said I've never used any of their products (and I've never had anybody recommend them to me...well, until now). I've usually stuck with Corsair and Antec. I got my OCZ based on good reviews and a great price/rebate.
