Early on you'll meet the Jarl of Whiterun. Keep doing quests for him and he'll make you Thane of Whiterun. At that point you can buy the Breezehome in Whiterun from the Jarls aid Advennci (?). It'll cost you 5000 gold, then 300 per upgrade for the home. You can do quests for Jarls in the other holds as well in order to buy houses in those areas.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Yeah, I don't think they take gold. I think they just take anything that says "STOLEN" in your inventory. Since stolen gold just gets added to your gold count, it doesn't go anywhere.
Adding to my "Worst Thing I've Done in Skyrim" lore (Companions mission spoiler):
SpoilerApparently Kodlak died. I came back from a Companions mission and there were bodies everywhere. I attended Kodlak's funeral and Eourland told me he needed me to go get him a fragment out of Kodlak's table in his bedroom. So, immediately after attending Kodlak's funeral, I walked downstairs to his room and took all 3 coin purses and all the loose gold in Kodlak's part of the Companions lodging house, then after that I did what Eourland asked.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

I don't see myself ever running out of arrows, I've collected so many, it's amazing how easy it is to get arrows and I'm not even talking about buying them from merchants!
735 iron arrows
566 steel arrows
180 forsworn arrows
83 ancient nord arrows
23 orcish arrows
9 dwarven arrows
8 elven arrows

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Blood on the Ice
Spoilereasily the most disappointing mission i've faced in the game. All that setup for...simply reporting him to the steward. I mean really, come on? No fight? Weak.
At least I got a bigger house than Breezehome out of itAnd may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

I'm pretty shocked anyone even uses them later in the game. It is way too easy to have a decent amount of any other types that are better than iron.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
So what class(es) do people play with - and did you take a race that had good starting skills for that class, or not?
I've started over a few times because I can't figure out what path to follow. I had a Mage and it was fun - then I tried a warrior for a bit, and I like that too - but I'm having trouble sticking with one. Wondering what people are finding enjoyable. Do you stick with a sort of natural class like a Mage, Warrior - or do you diversify and spread out your skills and become a more balanced fighter - with some magic, some stealth, and some hand to hand?
I'm aware there are no 'classes', but still you basically pick a path and go with that.
I'm also unsure if I should go with a race that's good in starting stats, or not. For instance, if I'm going with say a full on assassin, do I pick someone with a bonus to sneak and/or ranged so that I have decent starting stats, or do I pick someone with low/normal starting stats so that I can level more early on and gain some perks/attribute quicker?
The drawback is that, if I understand correctly, mobs level with you - so you'll end up with lower stats and higher level enemies.
I keep sort of second guessing myself during character creation and having a hard time feeling satisfied once I've gained a few levels. Although, you can really just do whatever you want and level as whatever you want, so you aren't held back - but then later on, you may be when the enemies are just too strong because you didn't level evenly.Last edited by st67; 01-22-2012, 01:15 AM.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Just bought and fully upgraded proudspire manor. It is an awesome house. I can't wait until the mannequins fully work instead of just holding a few pieces armor. Right now the mannequins have nightingale and daedric armor on. My level 44 dark elf now has two houses, whiterun and solitude, along with the arch-mages quarters in winterhold. I have played around 50 hours of this game and have only done around 7 quests regarding the main story. I love this game.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I went Orc, with skills (in decreasing importance) 2h, heavy armor, smithing, enchanting, alchemy, destruction, sneak, speech. As far as perks, in order of importance, I did most 2h (sword based perks), all heavy armor, Heavy armor path in smithing, all enchanting, right side path for alchemy, merchant based speech, left side sneak (not backstab perks), destruction (up to master and then the fire and frost augments, for hitting flying dragons). As for magicka/health/stamina, I went 3:2 health:stamina and never put any into magicka.Comment
