I believe his name is Proventus Avenicci or something.

He's normally in Dragonsreach, somewhere near the Jarl.

Other than White Run, which house has a decent location? White Run is nice because I can fast travel to it and everything is right by the house (blacksmith, shops, alchemy lab in the house), but I'm sitting on like 15k worth of gold that is just adding up from quests.

not sure of what is around the other houses, but all the other ones beside Whiterun have an Arcane Enchanter upgrade. Riften also has a Tanning rack.

              'Sup guys!

So, I'm new to the Elder Scrolls' series. Just bought Skyrim and I popped it in last night. I couldn't decide on my character because I'm not really familiar with them.

I know the High Elf race (Altmer, I think?) was describes as being the most skilled in the arcane arts (Which I assume is magic), so this sounds the best. However, I'm a combat type of person mostly, I like to go at it with a sword, a melee type of guy.

So, really I'm trying to decide whether I should be a Nord or High Elf, with maybe a wild card being a Dark Elf or Imperial. It would be cool to be a beast at magic, but I want to be great at combat skills at the same time. Which should I choose? Sorry if I'm kind of mixed up explaining this, BTW.

I know I could make two saves, but I like to put all my efforts into a save at a time and grow close to a character I make. I'm not sure if I'll do multiple playthroughs with different characters, since I don't know how long I'll be interested in the game. But, if I could get help on this, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Also, what difficulty should I start at? I think the default is Adept, but I don't know what would be a good starting point to get my feet wet in the world of Skyrim. I don't want the game to be ridiculously easy, but I don't want to die multiple times early.

Again, thanks in advance if anyone can help me decide . I also want to be able to get a good-lookin' wife.

If you're just going for weapon combat (swords, maces, etc) then you're probably better off with an Orc, Redguard, or Nord.

High Elves, from what I can tell, are great for mages. Wood elves are nice for stealth and archery. Dark elves seem to be a nice basis for a battle mage (magic and blade combo).

Of the houses I own, Whiterun is still my favorite. If it had an enchantment table in the house it would be perfect. My only other minor gripe is the lack of display plaques but with the small size of the house it's unavoidable.

Riften's house is a little bigger then Whiteruns and is in a good location. Pretty near the gate and close to blacksmith and shops. It has an enchantment and alchemy labs. It also has a back door that allows you to enter the house without having to enter Riften first. The major drawback for me is the lack of storage containers downstairs near the alchemy and enchantment rooms. I like how the alchemy lab in Whiterun had a satchel right on the table for me to store my ingredients.

Markarth is big and is near the gate. Has lots of storage in every room. Big bookshelf area and display plaques, cases, and a mannequin (useless and glitched on PS3) It's near the shops but the blacksmith is on the other side of town.

Solitude house is HUGE (and is home to the hottest housecarl, imo). TONS of weapon/shield display plaques for your gear and a couple mannequins to show off some armor. Like the Riften house the only storage near the labs is shelf space, no containers. Since Solitude is so big, the house is not near the gate, blacksmith or shops. Cost 25k to buy it and 11k to fully upgrade.

I own my home in Whiterun and I also am the Arch MAge and have that wing in the College. But I want this house. It will be my next goal. I just blew a ton of gold on training. Felt it was well worth it.

I have plenty of time and leveling to do before I buy my estate in Solitude.

If you're a Spellsword-one handed weapon and magic spell-I'd try Dark Elf or Breton. The strategy guide recommends Dark Elf because of their racial ability, but I'm using Breton. I had some trouble with Adept early on so the first 20 levels I played on the easiest level, but now I may go back to Adept.

Finally got married yesterday, twice (had to reload). It was between Aela, Mjoll or Ysolda. Picked Mjoll but couldn't get around the problem with Aerin constantly being in my house. Didn't feel like going through the trouble with killing him so just reloaded the previous save and married Aela. Werewolf marriage!

Also got my Daedric armor last night and got it up to legendary.

One thing I would like is to put matching Daedric like armor on Shadowmere. That would be badass.
