I am learning that sometimes.....you have to pull back and get the hell out of dodge.

It's ok to abort a mission now and then and live to fight another day.

Or at least regroup....reload(can't tell you how many times I've forgotten this until it's too late)....go into overwatch for a few turns and hope to figure out where the aliens are...or maybe even draw them into your overwatch crossfire.

I've never aborted a mission but I understand where you're coming from. Similar to what Knight said, I have had to regroup on several occasions. One time my entire squad was lost except for one guy, who only was a squaddie, I believe. He took down two mutons, who were slightly damaged already, with a pistol to finish the battle. Drove me nuts when the guy panicked though. I'll tell you one thing, I learned how valuable upgrading pistols can be. I never used them until that battle. Came in handy.

Got the Seinfeld cast up, lost Elaine on her first out. I wanted her to live! Newman is expendable. I am hoping George and Kramer and the Soup Nazi go deep into the game. Frank Costanza makes me laugh whenever I give him orders and see him duke it out.

With my other charaters, my cat is still going and is the highest ranked, been there from the first really playable mission. Megatron is a beast, takes the damage and sometimes goes out of action wounded but always comes back. I love his arrogance.

I know this, I have such an amazing run going on right now, it's really gonna suck when the **** hits the fan. The biggest problem is that I'm feasting on weaker opponents like floaters and thin men. Once the Mutons come...I'm so going to suck.

solid top ranked sniper at 43 kills! but yeah, you lose big BIG losses now and then which makes the game special.

I just wish you could physically interact with artifacts just a little bit instead of it always being to kill all enemies to end the show.

I hate to bring it up but Operation Darkness you have to use up turns to loot bodies and there are some great things that were done in that game. X-Com is great, I hope they make another one and make it MORE complicated on the battle field, the extra curricular stuff is outstanding as it is, to put it over the top I'd like to see things sometimes a bit more drawn out and have to actually secure some artifacts or data on the actual map instead of it being all automated.

Never the less, outstanding game, I'm still a ways off from finishing my first play-through on Normal after bowing out of Classic.

I love the fact a game like this comes out and blows away conventional wisdom of what makes a seller and we get more VARIETY. So refreshing a bit of the old-school stamped out a place for itself on consoles.

Just wanted to comment how much I enjoy playing this game with football/baseball going on. I can make a turn then divert my attention and come back to it. Reminds me of playing Civ/Football Manager (my other two favorite games) that run all day while you're doing other things. As great as Torchlight/Borderlands has been they require all of my attention. I can actually have a think about what I'm doing and I love it.

Good tips from above. Overview has become my go to move as I'm very concious of losing people. I am a total turtle.

                  Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Game just froze mid mission. First time its locked up like that for me. It was a tense rescue mission where the aliens were assassinating the civilians. Hard to know how far through I was but I'd spent at least 45 mins clearing off just the first section of the map. This type of mission emphasises risk/reward through speed and it has thrown me because I have become accustomed to a cautious build up to negate squad casualties. Bummer it hung on me.

There had between no casualties, George Costanza saved the day on one occasion for Battlestar Gallactica, my best sniper. This game is so engrossing and because I dont replay missions I don't mind starting this one over. Such a fun as game, the kind that tends to spin the clocks hands far too quickly.

                  But, please dont freeze again.

                    Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Was thinking about some possible features that could be included in a future game.

Would there be any benefit to an online trade system where you could trade out members of your squad for pieces of your team that are missing? Maybe this could pertain only to online skirmish modes.

Is there a place for a horde mode?

Another idea centered around the notion of co-op or team play where squads are comprised of up to six individual human players. In this mode you only play as one guy in a squad of other players.

This could extend to possible team based leagues like the EASHL where squads go up against eachother. You could up the ante to high stakes where deaths are permanent like in the single player game and like in the EASHL you can only level up online. I suppose the obvious disadvantage would be rookies and lower ranked players going up against higher powered opponents.

Again, it could be adapted to a horde mode or an entirely co-opped single player where if your guy dies you play the next mission as a rookie and start all over again. There would have to be given wider thought to playable classes perhaps beyond what is currently offered.

                    Anyway, just some ideas.

I am assuming this was a big test for Fireaxis and 2K to see if a turn based, kinda thinking man's game could sell well on a console.

It looks like the answer is a resounding yes, I fully expect to see this title and Genre more fully fleshed out in the future.

Not that I know of, but I have heard and seen myself about a few stores being sold out.

I guess I am assuming the sales numbers are good, maybe they are not.

To add to what allbthere stated....

If only you could pick up fallen squad mates weapons/gear.

I lost my sniper(quite dumb....he's my hang back overwatch guy) by pushing a bit early(friggin thin man came out of nowhere and nailed him).
I just kept seeing his sniper rifle laying beside him round after round and wanted so much to be able to pick it up and give it to someone else.

That and everyone should have a slot for a medkit.
Only medic class would heal the 4 or 5 points.....a "regular" unit would only heal a bit or stabilize a player...but it's frustrating to have your medic get it early(and turn into a zombie! ) and no there is no hope of any medical help.

Deeper into the game and it's still a great purchase.
I definitely found myself being more careful with established players...but I've since went back to a more aggressive approach evenly with everyone.(you didn't get those medals by playin' it safe son!)

                            Right now my keys
-Overwatch. When setting up my assaults...I never use both turns to move or a move/fire combo unless it's a pretty sure shot and there is backup. For me....until the firefight gets heavy...it's move/overwatch
-Rotate units in when starting missions....a LOT. This becomes key later when you start losing vets.
-Stick together(within reason.....don't bunch up...just enough to barely cover each other or cover someone within one move command). Spreading out to far or wide.....with no way to cover each other is certain death.
-Get the perk for the extra shot on overwatch
-Get the perk that doesn't end your turn on a fire command.
-Use rockets/grenades if they pack up.(to hell with the lab rat telling you your ruining valuable tech.....she's not getting turned into ground beef!)
-Get the skeleton suit. Being able to grapple hook up is a great bonus....especially if pinned down.

                            M.K.

Yes. I learned the hard way if you only have 1 medic and he goes down, you are screwed.

Love. This. Game. Never played the original. Wasn't even on my radar until I started seeing the previews. Bought the Xbox version. I am very close to buying the PC version. Wish there was an iOS version.

Got home late from men's league hockey last night - 12:30a - still forced myself to stay up and squeeze an hour of Xcom in.

I am veyr tempted. And it;s really to get some good reading in on all the tech, upgrades and abiltie trees you can do. Plus some advice on construction, the different country bases etc.

The game is really deep. I am only a month in. Just had my first council report (got an A) and now things are getting really tough.
