Blue Moon - Always great. That was actually the first beer I drank regularly and got me into other beers

Sam Adams Cherry Wheat - Not a fan of cherry anything but really liked this beer.

Yea I was drinking some Blue moon the other night while grubbing on some boiled crawfish and my ol lady bought some Sam Adams Cherry wheat. Well I ran out of blue moon so I grabbed one of her bears. I was not a fan of it, way to sweat for my taste.

I am stopping on the way home tonight and getting most like the Abita Turbo. It is a local brew here (I live in Louisiana). But I never really have dove into what Abita has to offer. But since most seem to enjoy the Turbodog that is what I am going to pick up tonight. I want to try the Pecan one also since Pecans are a local fav around here.

Turbodog is good. I wasn't very impressed with the Pecan Ale. Haven't tride Jockamo yet.

Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread

People that like wheat beers need to check out Hoegaarden... that's my favorite light Belgian-style beer. Just a really tasty beer, and nothing goes better with some mussels and frites.

For great mussels, just make sure that you yank the "beard" off (pull towards the closed shell end to avoid yanking the mussel out of the shell) if that hasn't been done already. Then remove any broken ones and any that don't close up when you tap on the shell.

Heat up some butter (the more the merrier, more on this later) mixed with a tiny bit of olive oil (just to make sure it doesn't burn), minced shallots, and 3 cloves of garlic, which you'll cook on medium heat until the shallots are fairly soft (you'll smell the aromatics). Then add the mussels all at once (don't drop them hard, as you can crack the shells) -- move the mussels around gently inside the cooking liquid, coating them as much as possible. About 2 minutes in, add some white wine (or champagne) and cover the pan (this helps trap in steam to make sure they all get finished and cooked evenly). Don't peek at it for at least 2 minutes, then just look and make sure that all the mussels are open... don't eat any that didn't open. They normally take 5-6 minutes to get done.. they get rubbery kinda quick, so keep an eye on them.

Serve with some crusty bread, which you will dip into the orgasmic white wine-butter-garlic-shallot broth you made. You can also serve them over a bit of pasta and pour the broth over that, but I'm a simple guy who likes the dipped bread more than pretty much anything... so I serve them in a bowl with just some shredded parsley on the top and a big-*** hunk of the bread.

Add a Hoegaarden and you're having a damn fine meal that took all of 15 minutes to make. Might do this tonight, actually... got my gears turning just thinking about it... mmmm.

I actually tried that Tuesday. Wasn't a fan.

It was the first Abita I didn't like.

Really? I was reviewing it over here and looked solid. Still might give it a shot.

The Flying Dogs are not bad. I have tried most, I tend to like the flavor of the "In-Heat Wheat" the best.

I agree on the SA Cherry Wheat, Soooooo sweet!! Way to sweet for me.

I'd definitely give it a shot. I'm still new to all brews so I'm sure I just haven't acquired that taste yet. That one just didn't sit right with me. I was still able to get it down though.

You definitely need to try the Flying Dog Old Scratch.

Pretty good, IMO...though it does have the ripe banana notes of a hefeweizen (an unfiltered wheat beer).

Yeah, I enjoyed that Michelob DunkelWeisse also... it's about $1.50 cheaper than the microbrews for a 6-pack, so I got it a few times and enjoyed it thoroughly. Impressive for Michelob... never been a fan of theirs normally, but these new "microbrews" from them have been solid.

Had the Red Hook Blonde and Pyramid Hefeweizen. Both were incredibly good.

                                God, I love drinking beer.
