I definitely think I lost some strength, but not a whole lot. I could still get through my normal weight workout, but it was a little tougher than normal.
I lost more with P90X, but primarily because I had more to lose. I was at about 175 when I started P90X and lost about 15 pounds to get to 160 (most in the first 4 weeks). I got back up to about 165-167 before Insanity and got back down to 160 after completion.
However, I changed my diet when I started P90X and have kept at it since, so had I done the two workouts in reverse order, I think the weight drops would have been indentical.
Also, if you are worried about losing weight, you can easily just increase the portion sizes to compensate.
If you are trying to get in basketball shape, I think Insanity will help you get that spring back. You will be much better conditioned and your legs will be much stronger for basketball activities.
