Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Wow, that's amazing Shaver...great job!!! I'd like to hear a bit more about how you did it as well..

Last night I finished at about 1700 calories, still too high but not crazy high. I had a grilled turkey burger on whole wheat with a 200 calorie velveeta shells n' cheese (I bought a 4 pack as I was craving pasta, bad I know but last night was the next-to-the-last one).

I had some oatmeal (160) with fresh blueberries (50) this morning. And then had a bag of 100 calorie pretzels for a snack. So I'm sitting at about 310 calories for the day. I'm going to throw in about 40 more calories from some misc stuff I ate when I got up, so let's say 350 calories for the day.

My g/f is supposed to make me taco salad tonight, I asked her to get ground turkey instead of beef but I don't know if she'll remember or not. I weighed myself this morning and I'm down 3 pounds from Tuesday but not sure how much of that is water weight or not.

TOO HIGH... you have got to be kidding me. If you weigh 250lbs you should be eating at least 2500 calories a day (a that is for aggressive weight loss). Eating so few calories a day you are killing (or have already killed) your metabolism. This prevents you from losing weigh because not only does your body burn less calories at rest, it also thinks it is starving and hangs onto to body fat. Having more body fat will keep you alive long when you are starving.

You need to slowly start increasing your calories per day and should be eating 5 or 6 times day (400 to 500 calories per meal). You should also focus on what you eat. A good mix of lean meat, complex carbs, veggies and healthy fats with each meal.

I've tried eating more calories and I gain weight each week. And yes that's eating healthy food as well. And I do exercise vigorously for an hour a day. I need to get back to the 1200-1500 calories per day which is what I was doing when I was losing in February/March but it's tough lately.

Hey guys, took a break from posting but I've still been hitting the gym 4 days a week. Still doing chest and shoulders on Monday and Thursday while hitting back on Tuesday and Friday. Still doing 3 sets of 50 on each thing and have noticed some nice definition all over my upper body from it.

Today, I did 3 sets of 175 and 2 sets of 250 on jump rope. Tomorrow, I will do 4 sets of 175 as I go up 25 reps every day.

Not sure of how much I way, probably still around 215.

I'm really having a tough time finding motivation to head to the gym at my apartment complex. I mean, I do play volleyball once a week so that's a large amount of exercise, but I'd really like to find motivation to go to the gym on the other days.

ODogg - You metioned in the thread with the woman living in garbage that you threw out lunch meat the other day.

One thing my wife and I have done is stop buying the processed deli meats. So much fat and sodium in alot of them. All our sandwich meat is from roasts that we cook ourselves. We get cheap pork, beef and ham roasts all the time when we go to the grocery store near closing time. They mark alot of meat down.

We have been doing this since November. Have not bought a single pack of deli meat since. *knock on wood*

                Just a tip.

Just tell yourself you are going to go down each day for 15 minutes, then leave. If you think in your head you need to go for an hour or whatever you will almost never go...

I only generally go for 30 minutes, and it's still kind of difficult.

At this point, with the extremely low calorie diet you have been following you have probably lost a lot of muscle. Thus, your metabolism is very low because muscle burns more calories at rest then fat.

In order to get your metabolism back up, you need to start doing resistance training of some sort and not just cardio. Instead of 50 minutes on the bike, try 25 on the bike and 25 lifting weights. You could even incorporate some cardio into your weight lifting by resting 1 minute or less between sets and exercises.

Then, as you start to gain muscle, you can slowly up your calories in order to keep your metabolism revving high. Remember, building muscle is the key to losing fat/weight.

ODogg, I have to humbly agree with Flinn on this. I'm no expert but for a long time all I was doing was running (cardio) and I started seeing my body lose mass. Even in my legs. I was developing muscle in my lower legs but my thighs were beginning to dwindle. That's why I started doing some weights, especially for my upper body.

A good example is my chest area. That's where I really saw it. From there I noticed I had zero strength and that the weight loss was misleading.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Actually though my doctor is the one who told me to eat 1500 calories a day and exercise as much as I could to get to a healthy weight. He specifically said cardio, but that I could do weights if I desired, so long as I still did a lot of cardio. And before anyone slams that doctor, know that I moved to Ohio and got a new doctor and told him that plan and he signed off on it as well.

I don't know, general practitioners are not diet and exercise experts. From everything I've read and researched, 1500 calories is way too low.

Cardio-only is definitely not the way to go IMO. You've got to lift, you don't have to be squatting and deadlifting but at least hit the weights in some regard.

When lifting to lose weight, you tend to gain weight before you lose it.
