Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I think i'm going with a more cardio focus this time as well. I have always lifted weights (from about age 14) and have some solid muscle but the problem is I look thick which makes it hard to look good in clothes etc. I think at this stage in my life ie married with children i just want a lean, healthy physique and don't really aspire to that big muscular look any more.

My wife and I are going to start Insanity 5 days per week on sunday or monday which i think is more cardio focused rather than weight lifting so that should do the trick as it burns a heap of cals. I just need to keep away from arch nemesis french fries, KFC and burgers etc and i'll be fine.

I'm kinda like Lionel Hutz from the Simpsons but i am addicted to junk food rather than booze. I drive past a KFC and i'm like "what's that? you want me to eat you right now? No i couldn't possibly...... ah what the hell one burger and fries won't hurt".

I think i need a sponsor or something like FFA (fast food anonymous) or something.

Lol Jonesy - I hear ya there man. I'm not falling off the wagon though, sticking to my routine - just sprained the knee, need to get it checked out - it's been a month, have been waiting on insurance from the job-o to kick in.

Played soccer match last night 75 mins, didn't do terrible, got a lot of cardio in - but the knee was heavily taped up, so movement was rigid at best.

Looking forward to tomorrow's workout, been eating good as well with only drinking liquor rather than beer.

This was intergral in my losing almost 30 pounds this year. Along with rigid cardio 4 nights a week. But I quit drinking beer (completely) and went to smaller amounts of liquor and it's helped drastically.

Alrighty so this morning when I woke up I check the scale and saw I went from 283.2 or 283.3 to 282.8. Small lost but it's a start. Looking to keep up the good work today.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I bought some chicken, steak and pork skewers for the grill this Friday. Going to eat those with some red potatoes w/unsalted butter and light sour cream. Also, I am cooking up a bunch of seasoned chicken breasts for eating the rest of the weekend for when my girlfriend and I get hungry. We've been going out a couple times each weekend and I think it's really killing my weight loss. I've gained a pound or two for the last few weeks and am now at 258 pounds (I was at 254 pounds just a month ago).

Oh and for my "cheat" meal this weekend I'm making home made pizza with my girlfriend (thin crust, lowfat cheese, low-cal sauce, lots of veggie, turkey pepperoni, that sorta thing).

I think the best strategy is this: Instead of trying to avoid or substitute for good foods I am going to try to spend more time actively seeking out healthy, delicious foods.

For example, instead of going out to eat and eating a "better" calorie meal at Ruby Tuesdays I am going to think about something healthy I'd like to eat as my #1 choice, and for me, grilled chicken at home is better than ANYTHING I'm going to eat at Ruby Tuesdays.

The problem is that there is temptation everywhere. Drive down any major road in the US and you'll find countless fast food establishments, 7-11's that sell monster-sized sodas and bags of chips bigger than your head, supermarkets with checkout counters littered with candy, etc. You can't get away from it.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

The eating is going better than expected, early on. I mentioned that I have pretty good willpower when it comes to the kinds of food I eat. I can just put my taste buds in jail if I need to. Where I used to struggle with was proportions. I was never an overeater in an extreme way, but I did tend to eat a full meal. So if I was at Subway, I'd get the footlong, rather than the six inch.

After realizing I sprinted about six or seven lbs past my personal fatty limit, I decided that no matter what, I'd stick with the six inch level proportions across the board. Wasn't as hard as I thought. Main thing is to supplement with liquids. I find that if I just walk away from the table and let the food process, I lose that instinct to want to fill the tank, so to speak.

Good breakfast this morning. Egg whites, ham on an english muffin with some OJ. Picked up some Special K, fat free skim milk and nutriional drinks. After 7pm, I'm not putting anything inside of my body besides fruit, yogurt and/or nutrional drinks. From a food standpoint, the only thing I have to do is triple my water intake.

Won't be able to work out until I finish this book, which should be today. So the first workout will either be tomorrow or the day after. Gonna work on abs, legs and stationary bike, to prepare for picking up my real bike in a week.

Just a heads up for everyone - not sure if this deal is going on in every state but in July/August Costco has wild Alaskian sockeye salmon for $13 for a huge fillet, you can make three meals out of it easily. I don't think I've ever seen a better deal on wild salmon on the east coast.

Born, I would lose the OJ and drink water, tea or coffee (black). OJ has a ton of sugar in it without the fiber you find in eating an actual orange. It'll mess with your blood sugar pretty several in the morning.

Yeah OJ is basically a cup of sugar and vitamin C.

That salmon deal sounds awesome, i love me some salmon!

From the strange facts thread: Celery has negative calories. It takes more calories to eat a
piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with.

Eat your celery if you want a snack!

Yeah, I usually opt for grapefruit juice(good for metabolism), but I wasn't having anything with the egg whites, so I needed the calories to supplement not having a solid food side dish. I don't have orange juice later in the day, and it's the only high saccharine element of my diet.

Got my water today, too. Had a pint with lunch. Will definitely use that throughout the day. Lunch only added up to about 500 calories today. It was actually more like dinner. For the rest of the evening I won't have anything more than a banana and nutrition drink.

And more black coffee, of course

Figured out what I'll be eating for the rest of the diet as my main meal. I'm going to make a wrap of turkey, leaf spinach and a few other little things here and there for variety. I'll alternate days on using cheese. Shopping for ingredients tonight. Will also pick up fat free yogurt, apples and bananas.

I love keeping my water intake high for all the health benefits and it reduces hunger but MAN does it ever get annoying to have to piss like a racehorse every 20 minutes. It gets annoying!!!

Getting a bit of that today, haha! My body is like, "oh, what is this now? Water, eh? You'll be getting in your cardio going back and forth to the john, sir."

My friend coined the term weekend alcoholic for his binge drinking every friday and saturday..

My weight has been better now since my debacle 2 weekends ago. I got down to 321.6 yesterday and then to check today I'm down to 320.4. So as long as I remain on track it looks like I might get under 320 by next Wednesday. That'd be 40 pounds since I started less than 4 months ago. If so, I'll have to reduce a daily WW point..haha
