Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

You guys must do pushups differently than me. Do you keep your body flat and parallel to the floor while going far enough down until your nose touches the floor?

Maybe I'm just a weakling but I try to do sets of 6 pushups all the way to the floor, 3 or 4 sets in all, with the final set being "as many as possible" which for me is only like 8.

I'm still a novice though, it's not like I'm in week 20 or something lol so don't be too harsh!

Regardless of how many you can do, buy a pair of these ASAP...

you do get better at them pretty quickly if you start doing them regularly. One thing i like about pushups is that it works so many different muscles (chest, core, tri's, back, even delts etc) so even if one of those areas's is weak you quickly improve. I know for me i had weak tri and core strength and when i started the p90x program i was flat out doing 10-12 pushups in a row and by the end i was repping over 30 quite regularly.

EDIT: I posted this in the food and bev thread but thought i would ask it here as well:

You guys recommend any websites for tasty healthy recipes that don't take long to make? I am on a diet and need to eat low cal but i don't want to just end up eating steamed chicken and vege's every night or i think i'll burn out quick and fall off the wagon.

agreed, the extra depth on each rep is great... plus it takes away a lot of the pressure on your wrists, which can become a problem if you do a lot of pushups

What are they? I'm not familiar with them but at least they LOOK like they don't cost much.

I've got a set and i hate those things. Yes you get better depth on the pushups but it actually felt less comfortable on the wrists than normal pushups for me.

              Yesterday was good:

bfast: wholegrain cereal + skim milk

              Snack: apple

Lunch: lean beef sandwich + salad (no butter)

Dinner: grilled chicken breast + veges

              later: protein shake

today should be pretty similar hopefully except i had eggs for breakfast.....

Last night i was very hungry about 9pm so i just had a big glass of water than flossed and brushed my teeth. The hunger subsided and i knew the annoyance of having to clean my teeth again would stop me from breaking down and snacking late at night so i'll have to keep doing that.

I read an article yesterday that scientists have worked out that 7 hours of sleep is the optimum number for health benefits. Once you start to get up to 9 hours your risk of cardiovascular disease etc actually can start to increase which is interesting. I always thought more = better when it came to sleep but maybe that is not the case.

Push up bars, you can find them at a lot of retail stores for under $15.

You still play ball very often Ehh? I need to get back into playing. It's some of the best cardio you can do (basically an hour plus of interval training) and is 50000X more fun than sitting on a stationary bike or treadmill.

Summer league just ended and my knees only allow me to play outside once a week (Saturday mornings) but it's time for my usual break. Every year I take August-Thanksgiving and really focus on lifting/HIIT. The other eight months a year I play too much ball to stay committed to a lifting/HIIT program.

I'm going to lift heavy for the next two months and then do Insanity in Oct/Nov. I need for the weather to cool down anyway before I can get into Insanity again since I do it in my garage - the place is a sauna in the summer.

That's the key right there, getting out and playing sports is so much better than the treadmill. Basketball is great for this, and another one that always worked for me back in my extrovert days was tennis. People always frown on tennis but when you actually play it for real, it can be quite strenuous.

Yeah i love me some tennis. My only problem is i need other people to play sports against and due to my work schedule and travelling i generally need to workout at random times like very early in the morning or late at night when no-one else is available. Shooting baskets by myself is still fun but it's nothing like the workout a full court game (or even 3 on 3 half court) provides.

Still eating well. Got my bike. Did a quick five miles today, but I'm riding again tonight. Worth note: SEVERE inclines on the bike ride. Real curious to see how far I can go on flatter land later on. Gonna tailor my workouts to improve my cycling early on, until I get some real decent mileage.

Surprised no one has checked in since my last post. Hope all is going well for you guys. For myself:

I didn't work out as much as I wanted to this week. Had to get the bike fixed, handle some things with work, etc. Did get in a couple of rides and some walking, but overall this was another warmup week for working out. Still, I've been 100% with the diet, and I weighed in at about 218. That's encouraging, considering I haven't really tried to bust calories in the gym or on the bike yet. If I keep dropping weight like this, I'll bring in the lifting a little earlier than planned. I just wanted to drop ten to fifteen lbs before even touching a weight.

Got in a real good ride today. Hopefully I'll get two more in before the weekend is over.

Again, hope all is going well in everyone's personal quest.

This is going to pretty much look like a cycling journal soon, as my workouts are all about the bike right now. Did ten miles today. It felt good. Even when I exerted myself on the hills, it was less painful than before, or at the very least, a familiar pain. Found out there's a private basketball court on the roof of my gym. Good news for me, bad news for my buddies who want to play pick up ball

This week: looking to add leg, lower back and ab workouts to my cycling. I can feel my bike addiction settling in already, so I'm not too worried about my body yelling "QUIT, QUIT, QUIT" after a workout.

I probably won't mention the eating anymore, since that's a switch I've already flipped and my diet has only changed for the better since day one.

Good luck to everyone else staying on the wagon.
