    Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Any of you work those "second shift" schedules sometimes where you get to work around 11:30-12 ?

I'm usually on a 9:30-6, 11;30-8, or 12-9 shift and sometimes it's hard t work around those 12-9 shifts. I stay up relatively late (at least 1-2am) most nights and I can't get up early, but I lack the desire to workout after getting back in town around 10pm.

It's such a challenge to stick to my diet in the Philippines. I broke a couple times with baked goods and desserts but sticking to it for the most part.

Anyone whoever has tried Filipino food knows what I'm talking about lol. I have been eating filipino food but all veggie dishes with no meat and adding tofu.

Been eating oatmeal everyday with the best fruit I ever had.

Going to rededicate again and not break for at least one month.

For bench, again, start light. It's a simple movement, but if you've never done it, start with just the bar (45lbs), get the movement down and then start adding weight.

I would also recommend reading about and doing Starting Strength. It's a good 6 week intro to lifting and should add significant strength.

As far as confidence in switching from machines to free weights...people generally dont give two ****s about what you're doing or what weight you're moving. The only time you might get the odd look or two is if you're doing something wrong or weird. But thats why you read/watch/practice to educate yourself and use the many many mirrors most gyms have to get the correct form down.
Thanks. For squats I'm gonna try the bar itself first. My friends say I can definitely do 135 easy because of my frame. They also say the same about benching. I can do 40 pushups pretty well so that'll be my goal. Hopefully I can get comfortable enough doing this when it's busy during the week with all the meat heads around

          Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Been killing it the last month or two with my routines. Got it broken down pretty well as far as what i'm doing each day as well.

Mondays and Thursdays are kettlebell and bodyweight days. I'll start with 4 sets of alternating pullups and pushups, then go into the kettlebell work which consists of supersetting KB swings, snatches, rows, pull presses, and ab work. I usually do 3 or 4 supersets with little rest, and i'm totally roasted by the end of it.

Tuesday and Friday, I work on cardio. My workout lately has consisted of 5 or 6 sets of running 1/4 mile at about 7MPH, and after each 1/4 mile, dropping and doing a set number of burpees. Once the set of burpees is complete, I try to hop back on the treadmill with little to no break to keep the heartrate up. Right now, i'm at 12 burpees a set, so 60 burpees per workout. I can hardly stand at the end of this workout. The burpees just obliterate your entire body, so hopping back on the treadmill right after is torture. In a good way.

Saturday's are a mix of cardio and bodyweight work. I try to get out if the weather is nice and do some hill sprints in the AM, then finish up later in the day with some pullups and pushups.

Today, my 40lb. ZFO weighted vest should come in the mail, so i'm going to start incorporating that into the bodyweight exercises and cardio.

I'm hoping it's storming tonight when I get out of work. Our gym carries sound really well and I like running to the sound of the rain and thunder. I'm sure that sounds weird to some people.

There are days where It can be raining and I'll go run in it.
Running on a treadmill sucks major balls. I usually alternate..***n anywhere from 6.5-8. I use the 6.5 to catch a bit of a break.

Yeah, I always get a kick of hearing the people who say they were at the gym for two hours today.

Yeah, but what did you do in those two hours??

For me the usual time is about 45 mins to 1 hour 20 mins depending on what day of the week it is.

I'm currently on a program designed by Jim Stoppani that calls for a minute of cardio in between each set. That can get lengthy, then add on that I do three sets of abs after all that 4 times a week, I can easily be there close to 1 hour 20 mins.

Any longer at the gym and you're basically just wasting time. I was there yesterday actually, and came in the same time as this other guy. I was done in an hour, while his hour was spent meandering around the weight area, flexing and fixing his hat in the mirror like a doucher, while getting all of two workouts done. You big stud you.

Still on the Engine 2 Diet (All plant based).

                Blood pressure at the beginning: 148/108 then.....each week after 144/108, 134/94, 130/92, 122/86, 120/88, and yesterday.....120/82!!!

Still want those numbers to keep dropping but now I am back to normal in just over 7 weeks.

Back to weight lifting, still need to cardio more as I struggled staying on track with Insanity with my schedule. So here we go again, starting Insanity over AGAIN this evening and no matter what..........I am getting my tail up at 6 every morning to end all excuses with the evening change in plans that keep happening.

Also, great job to everyone whose working out and eating much better!!!

It's crazy how simple it is to just eat vegetables and it will reverse a lot of diseases. Plus I've had a ton girls think I'm in my early 20s and where shocked that I'm 31.

That's been a big plus for me. Haha.

Funny how I used to get **** from friends and family for going vegan and doing yoga until they saw the girls I been pulling.

After a 2-3 day set back I just wrapped up my first month of Insanity. Not sure of my final numbers yet but I'm expecting to be at a loss of 20-22 lbs in my first month. Will do my weigh in tomorrow morning.

Looking forward to recovery week next week. Have no clue what to expect with next weeks workout but it's the same exact one everyday. And I really have no clue what month two has in store for me. I hear it's a whole new ball game compared to the first month.

I'm most proud of going over a month (nearly 5 weeks now) with not one soda, no ice cream or sweats of any kind.

Whew just knocked out another session of Body Beast. I am absolutely addicted to weight lifting. My whole body is shaking right now lol.

Going to knock out some cardio with Insanity in a few hours once I recover. Was suppose to make it happen this morning but sleeping in for once was worth it as now I have a ton of energy today.

Had a bad week last week so I skipped on an update. This past week I did light (very light) cardio and hit some weights. Dropped 4 pounds so that was alright. Pretty meh week overall. But Progress is progress and I have a long way to go.

Just be careful not to over do the Caffeine, you might crash hard and have sleep issues.

I used to swear by Pre-workouts, Jack3d, Assault, NO I took 'em all... I've cut it back to only taking a PWO maybe once, or twice a week before a really big workout.

Also make sure you are cycling, so if you do a month on, take two weeks off so you avoid plateauing your tolerance to a certain product.

Final weigh in this evening (forgot this morning) was a total loss of 23 lbs in my month of Insanity, walking/jogging and a few days of DDP Yoga. I kind of hit a weight loss plateau about a week and a half ago. I was staying at exactly the same weight and had no idea what was going on. My energy dipped for a few days so I added more calories and that did the trick. I was amazed, I got to eat more and lose more. Going to do my best to keep my calories up and keep myself away from starvation mode again.
