Depends on the reasons why each is at the top or bottom. Quebec is at the top because we have been very agressive in putting restrictions in place. While we do have the highest number of cases and deaths in Canada to this day, our PM announced earlier today that indications are that we seem to to be reaching the peak of the curve as hospitalisations have slowed down during the last 5 days. This would seem to indicate the measures are working so it's a good thing we have them.

I have no clue about the situations of the states at the bottom. If they have few restrictions because they aren't affected by the virus then good for them. If it's because they'd rather let things get out of hand than temporarily restrict personnal freedoms in the name of public health and safety then that's another story.

Thanks CB, how are you feeling today?

I read a article that farmers are losing a ton of sales on milk because of all the schools being closed.

I wouldn't spend a second trying to string together any kind of narrative or useful point out of those "mobility reduction" numbers.

I'm about the same, thanks for asking man.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

my son's sister-in-law was working at Logan's and she says this was already in the works before corona happened. but it probably did accelerate the process

this (corona) is one of the upsides of rural living as compared to somewhere like NYC where people are stacked on top of each other like sardines. harder to be socially distant when there's no where to run, no where to hide.

Dropped into my local polling place about noon today to cast my ballot.

I did not see another voter until I got into the 'final room' where the ballots were fed into the machine. There, I saw another adult male perhaps in his late 50s/60s not wearing any sort of PPE. Still, I made sure to put on a mask and pair of nitrile gloves before entering the building. At the entrance to the polling place, which is a community library building, there was a uniformed person, security or paramedic, who instructed me to put hand sanitizer on over the pair of gloves I was wearing. They were fresh gloves and didn't need it, but he couldn't know that and I did what he suggested without complaining. This security/paramedic person was wearing a mask. There were hands-free sanitizer dispensers set up inside and outside of the building. I did not see any National Guard or anyone in military garb.

Inside the polling place, there was an elaborate pathway, follow-the-arrows style, designed to maximize the spread of various poll workers and tables from one another. It almost felt like going through an empty line for a ride in an amusement park. I noticed some "X" marks on the ground to establish spacing for voters. All of the poll workers were wearing masks and cellophane-looking gloves. Poll workers had plastic shields set up at their tables sort of like you'd see at places where you slide something underneath a plexiglass window when security is an issue. They asked me to hold my I.D. up against the outside of the plastic shield so they could verify it, and directed me to take my ward number card and voter count number (#235 by the way) to the subsequent tables. Of course, they did this without ever handing anything to me directly. They also had voters keep the pen they picked up to fill in the circles instead of returning them.

Although primaries and elections where there isn't a "big ticket" item like president or governor usually have lower turnout to begin with, I am wondering how heightened absentee voting versus diminished in-person voting will actually work out.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

The tone, at large, is now talking about how the economy has to get back on its feet. And I agree. Clearly every life matters, and that is the total focal point. Simultaneously, we can't destroy this nation on a financial collapse. Again, I felt the stimulus money should have went all-in for unemployment benefits and small businesses. I said this a week or so ago. And here we now are - those are the two greatest needs (aside from the healthcare needs). I truly believe that all government leaders are trying their best - no one wants to fail. It's just sad how each side seems to want the other to fail.

I've had 3 people reach out to me from my church - a lady who's father has been diagnosed, another whose daughter's boyfriend is diagnosed (young 20's), and a man who lost a co-worker. It's very real to people that are part of my church family.

Wanted to share this - yesterday I spoke at a small graveside gathering for a funeral I did. The man who died was 4 months short of 103 years old. FIVE people came - FIVE. It was so sad. His daughter (who just lost her husband, and I did his service not even two months ago). The son and his wife, and two grand kids. But consider this: he (Alex) was born in 1917 - died in 2020. He was born during the Spanish Flu pandemic, and now died during the Coronavirus pandemic. Talk about a bookended life...

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

The economy does need to be re-opened hopefully next month or early June. If it needs to be in phases, so be it. But the small business portion of the stimulus package has been a nightmare. There was originally supposed to be an SBA backed loan called EIDL where you could get up to $2 million over 30 years. Not only have very little people received any money, the cap has supposedly been changed from $2 million to $25K. Your business is supposed to be able to get roughly 3-6 months of revenue/operating expenses. For me that would've been a max of about $203K...now I'm looking at no more than $25K. A huge difference and could potentially spell the end of everything I've worked for over the last 3 years. I could lose my house, my vehicles, my business...everything. And I've got a baby coming next month.

Cause it's not like we're gonna re-open the economy and it will be business as usual. It's gonna be a slow, painful recovery and a lot of us small businesses are not gonna survive. I was optimistic when all the aid was first announced, but it's been an embarrassment of a roll-out and the SBA has basically broken the laws that congress said they were to follow.

At Academy Sports & Outdoors, all part-time employees have had their hours completely severed. My boss called me this morning to inform me we'll be able to file for unemployment through the company, a furlough.

Wuhan has relaxed their mandates today and people are now being freed up to head out and do life again - their 11-week (76 days) lockdown has ended. I don't know the details on how this will unfold, so my point here isn't to provide all kinds of information (I read they are using a smart phone app of some kind to track people's health in some fashion) - just to say that today is a key day for them. And something to keep an eye on moving forward.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure any information can be trusted on how this unfolds.

Yeah, this virus is affecting everyone in many different ways.

GMS, I heard the President say he was having Dr. Fauci and his team looking into why that is happening. It is happening in Milwaukee too.

Another causality is my wife's salary was cut by 7% and no more matching 401K until this is all over with.
