I just wonder what the minimum specs could be on something like that. a 1080TI?

My GTX 1080 could run it simple. GTX 1080Ti is not going to be a minimum spec anytime remotely soon. The GTX 1080 is still a super powerful card, I am still on high-ultra on 1440p on modern games, which is why I have not bothered to upgrade.

The bigger issue PC faces is SSD performance for these next gen games, but with prices dropping, NVMe are more accessible than ever.

The reason they aren't going next-gen is that they feel there consumer base can't handle the specs and their sales would suffer.

The solution then would be to have both versions on PC (last and next gen).
It's really not that simple. You don't just make a game on PC and it's all ready to go. One thing that makes it more complicated than that is you have to spend time trying to optimize the game for the million different hardware configurations that are out there. There's more to it than that.

It's definitely not as easy as the game is made on a PC so it is ready to be played on a PC.

Basically, they are preoccupied with the latest consoles.

If you want to get their attention, start harassing them on twitter about it.
Right. I mean, that's fair enough - it doesn't commercially make sense to not put as many resources into the new game as possible, and devoting any to a secondary release platform like PC would take resources away. I also think there is a touch of wanting the new consoles to stand out and not take any thunder away from them - I know other NG games release on PC too, but the sports games in particular are always a console selling favorite for Sony and MS because they have guaranteed yearly releases and will always be able to go with a new console release.

With the current state of console to PC ports - like x86 console hardware, MS in particular trying hard to help the XB to PC transition as easy as possible, and the fact the PC hardware market has somewhat normalized into far fewer options than what we used to have - I wonder how much of this is really a factor. I mean I would be sort of surprised if EA spent that much time tailoring their PC sports releases to anything outside of a handful of typical setups.

I could be wrong but I imagine they stick to standard DirectX, AMD and Nvidia APIs and develop to that. These days, it's pretty rare for a specific Nvidia or AMD GPU to suffer problems in a game and when they do, it's usually fixed in driver updates. And PC game developers only care about the GPU really, unless they're targeting specific CPU features which I'm not sure is that common (and would again be more about Intel vs AMD and not really model based).

TBH I think the "many configurations" thing is a relic of the past and overstated in PC gaming dev a bit these days. Still a factor but I don't think it is a massive burden, I think games like Madden returning to PC are sort of a testament to that.

A GTX 680 is the recommended gpu. I think you are good to crank up those settings.
