Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Kluber Dominates Blue Jays In Complete Game Shutout

A day after being shutout by Hyun-Jin Ryu and the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen, the Texas Rangers answered back with a shutout of their own. Corey Kluber went the distance for the Rangers on Sunday, holding the Blue Jays to just six hits in a 4-0 Rangers victory.

Kluber improved his record to 8-3 this season and proved why he leads all American League starters with a sterling 2.04 ERA. The prized offseason acquisition for the Rangers struck out four while getting the Blue Jays to ground into five double plays.

The Blue Jays had absolutely no answer for the dominant Kluber, as they failed to record an extra-base hit in the ballgame. It seemed as though every time that the Blue Jays were able to reach base, Kluber would get the next batter to ground into a double play.

On the other hand, the Rangers got to Blue Jays starter Chase Anderson for four runs over 6 2/3 innings of work. Todd Frazier, yet another offseason acquisition for Texas, went deep twice in the victory. Frazier launched a solo blast in the fourth inning before leaving the yard once again in the sixth. Willie Calhoun added a solo shot in the seventh inning to seal the victory for the Rangers.

Once again, the Blue Jays got some bad news on the injury front as second baseman Joe Panik was forced to leave the ballgame after diving for a ball in the second inning. Panik had been playing more frequently in wake of the injury to Cavan Biggio, and was replaced by Kevin Smith. After the game, manager Charlie Montoyo revealed that Panik had suffered a strained tricep, and is currently listed as day-to-day.

The Blue Jays get a much needed day off tomorrow before they welcome the Seattle Mariners into town. The Mariners and Blue Jays will kick off a three game series on Tuesday evening.

Definitely quite some unfortunate injuries so far this season. Losing Bichette, Vladdy, and Biggio is a tough pill to swallow. Really putting the depth of the organization to the test.

Game Notes
The Toronto Blue Jays welcome the Seattle Mariners into town for a three game series. The Mariners are riding a four game win streak and have gone 5-5 over their last ten games. Run support will be the name of the game for the Mariners, who have gotten good starting pitching for the majority of the season but have failed to provide their pitching staff with enough runs to win ballgames.

The Blue Jays will continue to piece together a lineup as the club continues to deal with injury issues. Most recently, infielder Joe Panik hit the shelf with a strained tricep. As it stands right now, expect Logan Warmoth and Kevin Smith to see the majority of playing time up the middle as the Blue Jays await the return of some of their young sluggers.

It's funny how they seem to come in waves with this game. I had a Jays franchise on the go, and stayed relatively healthy throughout. Now, with my Mariners franchise, I'm 20+ games in, have lost Marco, Evan White, Mallex Smith, Carl Edwards Jr., and have had 3 other players miss a game or two because of issues on game day. I love it!

Glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with injuries! The tough part about the injuries to my Blue Jays is that they're all infielders. Even the replacement infielders are getting hurt!

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

Swanson, Mariners Shutout Blue Jays

For the second game in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays were held off the scoreboard. This time, it was Erik Swanson and the Seattle Mariners, who took the opener of a three game series by a score of 2-0.

Swanson, who holds the second-lowest ERA amongst American League starters, tossed eight innings of shutout ball for the Mariners. Swanson allowed just four hits while striking out seven against a Blue Jays lineup that looked lost at the plate. Matt Magill pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the shutout and lock down his 16th save of the season.

Catcher Tom Murphy got the scoring started for the Mariners in the fifth inning when he laced a double down the left field line that was misplayed by Lourdes Gurriel Jr., allowing Shed Long to score all the way from first base. Seattle would strike again in the sixth inning when Mitch Haniger connected off Tanner Roark for his ninth homer of the season. Roark saw his record drop to 5-7 despite pitching well in the loss. The offseason signee has been the victim of poor run support this season, and scattered five hits over six innings in the losing effort.

As for the Blue Jays, they looked completely lost at the plate for the second straight game as they continue to deal with the absences of key players such as Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Cavan Biggio. Toronto failed to get a runner into scoring position against Swanson and looked overmatched at the plate.

The Blue Jays will look to snap out of their losing funk tomorrow evening as they take on the Mariners in the middle game of the three game weekday series.

For sure! Tough to produce offensively with any combination of Panik, Smith, Warmoth and Drury.
