A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)

    Rosters: Ridin's Full Minors v2.5
Sliders: Mike Lowe's MLB The Show 20 Sliders v1.5
Play Style: This year's franchise will represent a different challenge. Instead of adopting the play one, sim five strategy I've implemented in the past few years, I'll be playing every pitch of all 162 games. I've done this in the past with my first few dynasties and find that it produces the most realistic and most connected results. Of course, this will be a realistic franchise but it is fantasy (meaning I the CPU is free to make roster moves as they see fit).

        Game Notes
The Blue Jays and Red Sox both kick off their 2020 regular seasons on March 26th. The four game series features plenty of starters making their debuts for their new teams, with Hyun-Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark, and Chase Anderson all making their Blue Jays debut in front of their home crowd at the Rogers Center. Collin McHugh and Martin Perez make their Red Sox debuts as they are scheduled to start games two and four respectively.

In somewhat exciting news, the Blue Jays are slated to debut their "new blue" jerseys in the home opener on Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays added their new alternate jersey as a replacement for the red jerseys that were featured in previous years. The red jersey will be kept for "special occasions" such as Canada Day.

Sale, Red Sox Spoil Blue Jays' Home Opener

Chris Sale dominated for the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day. The lanky southpaw went six innings, striking out six while surrendering just two runs. The former Cy Young candidate barely allowed any hard contact with the exception of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s solo blast in the sixth inning.

Panik Comes Up Big As Blue Jays Shutout Red Sox

Thomas Pannone came up huge out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, picking up seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of work after taking over for starter Matt Shoemaker. Shoemaker left the game in the third inning after taking an Andrew Benintendi line drive off the side of his head. The Blue Jays medical staff indicated that Shoemaker avoided any significant injury and is expected to make his next scheduled start.

Joe Panik and Danny Jansen teamed up to manufacture both of the Blue Jays' runs in their first win of the 2020 season.

Blue Jays Earn Series Split With Sunday Win Over Red Sox

Trent Thornton threw 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball in his first start of the season, racking up an impressive eight strikeouts. Thornton was thrust into his first start of the season after scheduled starter Chase Anderson was scratched from his start after dealing with the stomach pain. Anderson is expected to be ready to go to start tomorrow's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Red Sox were shutout for the second game in a row and haven't scored a run in 19 innings of play. Joe Panik and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both continued their hot starts to the season, driving in one run each in the win.

The Cincinnati Reds roll into town after being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals in their opening day weekend matchup. The Reds' offence has really struggled in the early goings of the new season, and they'll be looking to Canadian Joey Votto to jumpstart the offence.

On the other hand, the Blue Jays look to be getting on a roll after back-to-back shutouts against the Boston Red Sox. It's important to note that Chase Anderson is still dealing with stomach pain after being scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday. It'll be interesting to see if he is able to make his scheduled start on Monday or if the Blue Jays are forced to make a roster move to accommodate for him.

Blue Jays Call Up Borucki For Spot Start

With Chase Anderson continuing to deal with what is described as "stomach pain", the Blue Jays have opted to go with a spot starter for tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Ryan Borucki will get his first shot at major league action on Monday evening as he fills in for the injured Anderson, getting the call up from Triple-A Buffalo late on Sunday night. The 26 year old southpaw didn't make the opening day roster out of training camp, but will be making his first start of the year with the big league club nonetheless. Borucki only appeared in two games for the Blue Jays last season as he battled elbow injuries all year long, but posted a solid 3.87 ERA in 97.2 innings of work in 2018 as a rookie and has consistently shown upside.

On the other end of Borucki's call up is the demotion of reliever Sam Gaviglio. Gaviglio last pitched a scoreless inning in the Blue Jays' win over the Red Sox on Sunday. While this is simply a procedural move to free up space on the 26-man active roster, Gaviglio will not report to Triple-A Buffalo and is expected to be called up once Borucki is sent back down after his start.

Borucki Twirls Spot Start Gem In Win Over Reds

Ryan Borucki got the call for a spot start on Monday evening in place of injured starter Chase Anderson and turned in 8 2/3 innings of four hit ball for the Blue Jays. Borucki recorded eight strikeouts and surrendered only one unearned run in the top of the ninth inning when both Bo Bichette and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. committed errors on back-to-back plays. Borucki is expected to be optioned back down to Triple-A Buffalo despite his tremendous showing.

Travis Shaw homered in the sixth inning for his 100th career home run. The home run also represented his first home run since he joined the Blue Jays as a free agent this past offseason. The offensive struggles continued for the Reds, who managed only four hits the entire game - all of the singles. The Blue Jays came out on top despite sending only the minimum number of batters to the plate, mostly thanks to the three double plays that the Blue Jays hitters grounded into.

Reds Pick Up First Win Of Season Over Jays

The Cincinnati Reds finally picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday evening, a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Nick Castellanos and Nick Senzel both homered for the Reds in the low scoring affair, a Jays starter Hyun-Jin Ryu turned in a quality outing but will have to wait for his first win in a Blue Jays uniform.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launched his second home run of the season in the third inning, a solo blast into the left field seats but the Blue Jays bats were quiet the rest of the way as the Reds bullpen shut the down. The two teams will compete in the rubber match tomorrow afternoon.

Roark Twirls Complete Game Gem As Blue Jays Take Down Reds

Tanner Roark threw a complete game shutout against his former team as the Blue Jays took the third and final game of their series against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon. Roark picked up 13 strikeouts in the win, scattering five hits over the course of nine innings. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smacked two doubles, but it was the offence of regular bench players Derek Fisher and Resse McGuire that put the Jays on top with back-to-back singles in the sixth inning. Both Fisher and McGuire were in the starting lineup so that the Jays could rest some of their regulars before hitting the road.

Trevor Bauer took the loss for the Reds, who fell to 1-5 to start the season. Bauer did not pitch poorly by any means, surrendering a weak three hits and striking out eight in 5 1/3 innings of work. Both the Jays runs were scored when Bauer was pulled at 106 pitches in favour of Robert Stephenson.

The Blue Jays take to the road and kick off their first road trip of the season tomorrow with a three game series against the Yankees in New York.

The Blue Jays visit the red hot New York Yankees for their first road trip of the series after a 4-3 homestand to kick off the season. The Yankees have been on a tear since the first pitch of the new regular season, sweeping both the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays on the road. Thursday's afternoon contest marks the home opener for the Yankees, with an expected sellout crowd at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees' bats have been red hot in the past six games, with Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton both launching three home runs in the early goings of the season. The team in general has been hitting the ball hard, as exhibited by the combined .521 slugging percentage. While the Jays dodged a major bullet by not having to face Gerrit Cole, they'll still be tasked with taking on hard thrower Luis Severino, Canadian James Paxton and veteran Masahiro Tanaka - all of whom pitched well in their season debuts last week.

Blue Jays Spoil Yankees' Home Opener With Six Homers

After hitting just three home runs in their first seven games of the new regular season, the Toronto Blue Jays' offence exploded for six home runs in their 6-2 win over the New York Yankees.

Travis Shaw and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both homered twice, with Rowdy Tellez and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. combining for the other two homers as the Blue Jays spoiled the Yankees' home opener. Matt Shoemaker was spectacular on the mound for the Blue Jays, shutting down a red-hot Yankees lineup that entered the game 6-0 this season. Shoemaker twirled eight innings of two-run ball, throwing 106 pitches in his return from a black eye he suffered in his first start of the season.

Yankees starter Luis Severino struggled to keep the ball down in the hitter friendly Yankee Stadium, surrendering four solo home runs in five innings of work. Gleyber Torres provided the only punch from the Yankees lineup, launching a two-run blast over the left field wall in the fourth inning.

The two teams have Friday off before they continue their three game series on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
