Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

    Alright need some help:

Fired up my Yankees franchise once OSFM dropped and just completed Spring Training. Looking for some opinions on a position battle that I can't seem to make a decision on.

Aaron Hicks is quick and a great defender, but weak at the plate and in the spring hit just .211
Aaron Judge obviously has great power and a high ceiling but is a step back in the field and only hit .238 in the spring, plus a high strike out rate.
Then there is Chris Carter, who I was planning on having on the bench to pinch hit and fill in at 1B whenever necessary, but he had a great spring hitting .293 with 5 HR in only 41 at bats!! He can also play right field, so I am thinking of maybe starting him there, but then send Judge to AAA so he can play every day. I'm pretty much set on Hicks being the 4th OF so I guess I'm asking if I should go with Carter in RF and Judge in AAA, or ride it out with Judge in RF and keep Carter on the bench, as planned and like in real life.

I would just keep Carter on the bench or start him at 1B against lefties.

Yea I would start Hicks out in RF if your set on sending Judge to AAA, Carter is a huge liability out there. The power can be a big plus off the bench and spot starts at first and DH

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

Opening day 2017 of my Yankees franchise was probably the best game I've ever played.

Tanaka vs Archer in Tropicana. Scoreless through seven, Tanaka has given up one hit, and Archer is perfect. In the top of the eighth, Gregorius breaks up the perfect game with a double to right field, but the Yankees can't bring him home. Still no score after eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen St. Petersburg innings.

Top of the 14th. Hit, walk, flyout, walk. Bases full of Yankees, with Greg Bird set to bat. But there was a problem: Bird was 0-for-5 with five strikeouts. So I could let him go out there and potentially strike out again. Or I could pinch-hit for him, bring Carter to the plate, and pray he doesn't ground into the double play that could cost us the game. Both players are grand slam threats, but knowing that a base hit would surely score two runs, was I willing to roll the dice with an ice-cold Chris Carter with a significantly lower contact rating?

I had to go by the principle of least regret: which choice would I regret less if it backfired? I knew if Bird struck out again I couldn't forgive myself, so I took the bat out of his hands. Chris Carter came up to the plate, ice-cold, with no score and the bases loaded in the fourteenth inning. I was sweating. Because it's humid in my bedroom. But also because I was nervous.

          Bang.

First pitch, fastball, middle-up, fly ball to center field. A bases-clearing dome-emptying pinch-hit go-ahead grand slam after thirteen scoreless innings, and it felt amazing.

I lost the next game 8-1, but hey, the excitement was fun while it lasted!

San Diego is an interesting option as the blue camo jerseys are a cool alternate. Like you said their top pitching prospects are in A ball. Don't really know what the progression rate is for the game mode. If it's slow then having good A ball pitchers seems like a three-four year project. I am a fan of Erlin so I guess it's not too bad. The fact that I've only heard of Margot Renfroe and Myers what would my ability to trade for some decent players be

Does anyone know if they added back in the trade notifications? Bewildered that they removed it last year and I'd hoped it was back this year.

Played 10 games so far with the Phillies. Sitting at 3-7 so far. My pitching has been horrible. Constantly giving up leads. I have to learn to slow down and try to make good hitters chase more.

One of my games ended with my blowing a save and letting the Nats tie the game in the top of the 9th with 2 runs, but then I finished it off with a walk off home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning. That was extremely satisfying.

The Rays continue to struggle, sliding to 5-10 with 80 runs scored against them and only 47 runs scored. Some pretty terrible starting pitching backed up by the big bats not performing. The bullpen and lesser hitters have done pretty well, but with our 3-4-5 hitters all hitting below 200 it's going to be an uphill struggle. Brad Miller has yet to get an RBI from the 5 spot, which isn't great. Archer has yet to give up a run, but the other 4 starters all have an ERA over 6, so it's going to be a rough year I reckon!

I feel your pain man. My Rays franchise isn't starting off so well. At least I don't have Rickie Weeks to worry about, I got Justin Morneau playing 1B.

Started my mariners franchise hoping to get them to the series for the first time ever. Started off 3-3. Hanniger Cruz, and Valencia have been the stars so far. Went 2-2 v Houston. Currently 1-1 v the angels. Iwakuma trying to grab the series win.

                                End of April - 2017

24 games down and things could have went a little better. Currently sitting at 10-14 tied with the White Sox for last in the division. Things have started to turn around for us though.

The Twins walked us off on opening day after we took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th. We were able to bounce back though and got our first win in game 2 before losing game 3 and the opening series. Moved on to Houston to face the undefeated Astros down in Houston and got absolutely destroyed. We got outscored 22-3 while giving up 8 HR. The A's spoiled our home opener scoring 2 runs in the top of the 11th. Would lose game 2 of that series as well before finally getting our 2nd win of the season in the final game. The winning didn't last long though as the Angels came to town and and swept us in 3 games outscoring us 26-12. After 12 games we sat at 2-10 and scored just 36 runs while giving up 73.

The team finally decided to they wanted to play some real ball after that though. San Francisco came to town for the 1st time since winning game 7 of the 2014 WS. We swept them in a 2 game series. We then traveled down to Arlington to take on the Rangers in a 4 game series. We took the first 2 games outscoring them 18-7. Lost game 3 4-2 before coming back the next day and winning the series with a 10-7 victory. We scored more runs in those 6 games than we had in the first 12. We dropped 2 of 3 to the White Sox in the next series but only gave up 6 runs total. We finished the month back home against the Twins. Winning 2 of 3 including a 1-0 shutout in the series finale.

No team wants to be 10-14. But we are 8-4 in the last 12 games. 7.5 games behind the Indians for 1st and only 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

I forgot to turn the injuries back to manual until like 2 weeks into the season. So there arent many guys hurt right now. The only major injury is a pretty big one. Brandon Moss will be out until mid to late June with a broken hand. In 12 games he was hitting .250/.379/.437 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. Not great. But he was one of our bigger power bats. We called up Peter O'Brien to replace him. He will split time at DH/OF with Cheslor Cuthbert getting time as well.

Best starter so far is unsurprisingly Danny Duffy. 2-2 with a 3.26 ERA in 30.1 IP. Worst also very much unsurprisingly is Nate Karns. 1-3 with a 9.60 ERA in just 15 IP. He will get a couple more starts. If he doesnt improve (I dont think he will) im moving him to the pen. Best reliever is Travis Wood. 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in 13 IP. Worst is Chris Young. 0-0 with an 8.00 ERA in 18 IP.

On the offensive side Eric Hosmer leads the team with 26 Hits and 16 RBI. Tied with Moose and Gordon with 5 HR. Most surprising players so far are Salvador Perez and Raul Mondesi. Perez /hasnt been hitting HR with just 1 so far. But his AVG is at .296 and most importantly his OBP is .383. His career high is .328 back in 2012. He hasnt been over .289 since 2013. Mondesi is tied for 3rd on the team with 21 hits. hitting .288/.350/.301 with perfect defense between SS and 2B so far. He has started to struggle this last week though. Was hitting .339 just a week ago.

Josh Staumont starting for AAA Omaha is 2-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 28.1 IP. Christian Binford is also pitching well 2.53 ERA in 21.1 IP. Both could be called up soon if Chris Young and Nathan Karns continue to struggle. Dean Anna leads the team with a .316 AVG on 26 hits in 95 at bats. Best hitter has to go to Ryan O'Hearn though. .297/.389/.516 with 4 HR and 14 RBI in 31 AB. And Bubba Starling looks a lot better than he has in the past. .276/.398/.355 with 9 RBI in 76 AB.

Down in AA Kyle Zimmer is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 26.2 P. In his last 3 games he has a 2.04 ERA with 20 K's and 3 BB. He is moving up to AAA before his next start. If all goes well there he will be called up to the majors sometime in June. And Humberto Artega is hitting .299/.349/.468 with 2 HR and 17 RBI.

May is going to tell us a lot about this team. 14 games before our next day off followed by 16 more in a row. Luckily 21 of those 30 games will be against a team with a losing record at the moment. Jorge Soler should be off the DL within the next week. Just in time with Moss going down.
