Why is a top 10 hitting prospect more valuable than a top 10 pitching prospect?

Day to day impact. Tend to adjust a little quicker in most scenarios. Less risk I believe in terms of burning out. There are a plethora of reasons but those three make the most sense "I think".

Hitting prospects are safer because they don't rely on a ligament the size of a shoestring for their livelihood

I don't think San Diego would be willing to move Urias. I also don't really think Oakland would deal Puk unless they're leading the division at the ASB and even then, I don't think it is an Oakland move.

Harper to Chicago doesn't feel very realistic in my opinion but I could see Machado giving it a look if you have assembled a good enough team to play around him. Typically trading away most of your veterans for young prospects doesn't line up well with a huge all-star signing.

It's extremely hard to get the best prospects from other teams when you don't really have superstars on your club.

Exactly this. I don't like the San Diego deal. With that said, if he really wants Machado, he could always just trade for him and himself the first opportunity to resign him. I'm sure that Baltimore would have interest in Anderson and Rondon?

Because by and large Hitting prospects have a greater chance of panning out than pitching prospects do. Of course there are outliers like Strasburg, Ohtani guys like that.

But even if you listen to the analysts hitting prospects are usually more valued cause it's a little easier to see what you're getting and to gauge progression.

Now as for why his numbers specifically are like that he'd have to answer. But majority generally says hitters are valued more.

Yeah I don't see SD coming off any of their young guys, only exception would be them being right in the thick of the division race.

But even then they'd have to be wanting a SP instead of more offense.

EDIT: A SP that the CWS doesn't have btw

All of these guys can't be gotten for Anderson and Garcia, but here's a list of guys you should be able to go after at 3rd.

                          Rio Ruiz ATL
                          Maikel Franco PHI
                          Miguel Gomez SF
                          Daniel Robertson TB
                          Yandy Diaz CLE
                          Hunter Dozier KC
                          Taylor Ward LAA

I'd say Ward, Diaz, Gomez, Franco and Ruiz could be part of a Anderson or Garcia deal depending on the opposing team's strategy.

Robertson and Dozier would require prospects instead with KC and TB not being very good.

Also just to add, I think you could squeeze more out of Anderson and Garcia trading them to contenders for SP prospects than trying for 3B.

EDIT: These trades are also slightly more difficult to assess being this early in the season. You could probably get more out of them as well waiting for the playoff race to heat up and some contending teams to get some injuries.

I like this. I’m at the doc right now because I’m an idiot and cut my cornea, so let me get home and I’ll check that out.

My natural instinct would say McKenzie but that might be too steep. I’m thinking a package around Nolan Jones might be more appropriate.
