Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Probably because it’s a new game, but good to see more posts and more people in this thread.

At April 11th in my Yankees franchise. Record is 7-5. Series against Baltimore didn’t exactly go as planned. Couldn’t get the sweep, only 2 out of 3. Lost the first game 3-2, won the second 5-3. Won the finale 9-6 in 10 innings. Hicks had a big day with 4 hits including 2 doubles, a HR, and a stolen base.

Next was 3 games @ Houston. Astros pitching really cooled the offense down. Had the luck of running into Verlander, Cole, and McCullers.

Game 1: Gio Gonzales vs Verlander.
Gonzales did surprisingly well, holding them to 3 runs through 6 innings. Kahnle and Holder combined to give up 3 runs. Verlander was Verlander. Only 2 runs in 7.1 innings. Hector Rondon struck out the side in the 9th. Our only offense was 2 solo HR’s, one from Gardner and one from Tulo. Yankees lose 6-2

    Game 2: Severino Vs Cole.
Sevy was actually good, only allowing a single run despite giving up 9 hits and 2 walks through 6.1 IP. Cole only lasted 5.2 innings giving up 3 runs but racked up a large strikeout total, striking out the Yankees 12 times. Tulo doubled in 1 and Voit hit a 2 run HR. 3 hit day for LeMahieu. Chapman allowed a solo shot in the 9th after scoreless innings from Britton and Kimbrel but recovered to get the save. Yankees win 3-2

    Game 3: Paxton Vs McCullers.
This was the game I was most confident we’d win. Instead we got destroyed. Paxton didn’t have it from the very start allowing back to back solo HR’s by Bregman and Reddick to start the game. We tied it up 2-2 in the 3rd on Hicks and LeMahieu doubles. They dropped 4 on us in the bottom half. We didn’t score again, they scored another 6 runs. They scored their last 6 in the 6th and 7th. By the time the 6th rolled around it was basically just Paxton taking one for the team keeping the bullpen out of it. Yankees lose 12-2. Forgot there was a day off the next day....probably would’ve managed more aggressively if I remembered that..

Didn’t see that last one coming. Houston is just deadly. Lineup is a threat 1-9. Very strong bullpen. Rotation is solid. Overall they definitely have a bit of an edge over us. Some nasty breaking stuff to go with hard fastballs. Probably the best team in the game.

Next up is 3 vs the White Sox, the start of a long homestand. After a day off, the Red Sox come to town for 2, where we’ll narrowly dodge not just Sale, but Price as well. We’ll have Severino and Paxton. Need to take advantage. The home stand concludes with 4 against the Royals.

    Stories Around The League:
Orioles Still Leading AL East At 8-4
Still very early, but no one saw this coming. Somehow they still hold the division lead.

    Chris Davis Optioned To AAA?
In a surprising move, expensive MLB veteran Chris Davis was sent packing to AAA. After an extremely ugly 2018, the Orioles quickly had enough of Davis. In the end, maybe the embarrassment of being sent to AAA at age 33 after many years at the MLB level while making 20M+ a season will light a fire under him. Maybe this is the secret to their early success?

    2 Players Seasons Already Over:
The first player to suffer a season ending injury was A’s OF Robbie Grossman as he tore his Achilles’ tendon. Jays SP Sean Reid Foley soon followed, fracturing his head. Ouch.

Hey what gives? I’m in May and my O’s haven’t won 8 games yet 😂. Then again I still have Chris Davis around.

I’m a diehard Yankee fan IRL by the way. I’ll occasionally dabble with a Yankees franchise but I like to mix it up and ultimately don’t really like having to bench or cut an aging CC Sabathia for example.

The Mets came into Atlanta with a 1.5 game lead in the East. They leave 2.5 back after we swept a 4-game series in April.

Lol I have no idea. It just got even more insane. Since I posted that they won two more in a row. 3-1 vs the A’s. Then they beat Boston 1-0. Karns shut them out through 8. Doesn’t make sense, it has to stop, right? At first I thought they released Davis, which I think they should do in real life.

Cool, thought you were an Orioles fan because of the avatar. I’ve tried a different team a few times in the past but it’s easier to stay interested and committed to one team if I’m using the Yankees.

just played the 1st game of a 3 game series in San Diego with my Dodgers carry over. Had Kershaw going and took him out after 5 2/3 and 85 pitches. We had a 4-3 lead when Kershaw gave up a double. I gave it to the Bullpen and my bats woke up and ended up winning 11-4. I’m in 2nd place in the nl west with a 11-5 record in which looks to be a very competitive division this year besides San Diego.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

We’re popping bottles in Baltimore tonight, as we’ve started the month of May a red-hot 3-4 and have officially locked up our first series win of the year against the rival Red Sox at home. Rookie shortstop Richie Martin is tearing it up, posting a 4 for 5, two homer game against the Rays and also knocking in the winning run in the rubber game against the Sox. He is now batting close to .300 and leads the team in home runs with 5.

More good news - I’ve narrowed down 3 potential candidates for my first overall pick in the draft, now 28 days away. The search continues but the pressure is off now that I have some guys im comfortable with selecting. Also, we no longer have a stranglehold on the worst record in baseball. The freefalling Mets have joined us at 9-29.

Its not all good news though as injuries have started to mount. After missing a start with blister issues, Dylan Bundy hits the IL with a fractured bone in his hand and will be out until at least mid-June. Lefty swingman John Means gets the call from Norfolk to take his spot in the rotation. Outfielder Anthony Santander also fell victim to a broken ankle. Dwight Smith Jr. gets the call from Norfolk to assume 4th outfielder duties.

The Santander injury and the continued struggles of Trey Mancini add increasing pressure to call up top prospect Yusniel Diaz, who is punishing International League pitching at AAA. The smart move is to let him stay down for now, as we’re not going anywhere this year anyway. I’d like him to stay in AAA until September and compete for a spot on the team next season, but with the way he is playing he may force a mid-summer call up.

Craig Kimbrel is drawing some interest from Seattle, who fashion themselves as wild card contenders but as it stands now have no chance at catching Houston in the division race. I’ll hold on to him for now but won’t hesitate to pull the trigger far before the trade deadline if the right move presents itself.

We swept the Mariners with a 7-1 victory last night. We currently lead the majors with 12 homeruns as Fabregas, Pham, and Wong each went deep yesterday. We are also hitting over .300. Patrick Wisdom continues to impress as he went 2 for 2 last night with 3 walks. He struggled last year with a high strikeout percentage, but now is doing a better job of not just swinging for the fences, and looking to drive the ball to all fields.

Jack Flaherty went 6 strong innings (pulled at 90 pitches). He allowed one earned run (Tyler O'Neill homerun) on 4 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 4. Jordan Hicks pitched a perfect 7th striking out 2, Andrew Miller got thru the 8th on just 5 pitches, and we left Kiekhefer finish the game in the 9th. Kiekhefer did allow a hit, but that was the only blemish.

We will travel to Philadelphia to face the rebuilding Phillies for 3 games, then travel to Cincy for 3 against the re-built Reds before we get our first home game against the Brewers. Not sure how we got stuck starting the season on a 9 game road trip.

Welp the 2024 Cubs late season slump extended to a 7 game slide at the hands of the crosstown rival White Sox. However, the series finale ended the slump and secured the Cubbies tenth straight Central flag. We now sit with a 89-66 record with 7 to go. FWIW, the White Sox hold a 89-67 record which happens to pace the AL. There will be no 100 wins teams this 2024 season. Perhaps the Cubs and White Sox will meet up in the World Series this year. Honestly though I don't think my team is good enough this year but as we all know, baseball is baseball and that doesnt matter most of the time If for some reason I did happen to take the title it would be my 6th in 11 seasons and that would put this dynasty down as one of the best in history.

Opening Day is here for my Carryover White Sox in the 2022 Season. We start out at home against the Detroit Tigers.

We decided to break camp with basically the same team as 2021 except for the additions of Kevin DiBiase into the rotation, Reynaldo Lopez as the spot starter/long man in the bullpen and free agent signing Archie Bradley.

Looking ahead on the schedule I was disappointed to say the least to see there is no crosstown series with the Cubs. As a Cub fan and playing with the White Sox I feel that the crosstown rival should be a guaranteed match up every season... We face Pittsburgh twice for some reason....

Fans were treated to a 16 inning pitcher's duel on opening day and not one person left their seats.

Decided to make a recap of Opening Day using Game Recapper. May do more of these as the season progresses.

Also, what do you guys do with the A and B Potential FAs? Are they worth signing?

Game Recapper is an app that another member made for people to use to make recaps of games they have played. There is a thread about it below.

On those A and B prospects, I will go find teams that have a need in their positions and I will sign them to those teams since I do use 30 team control. Sometimes it is my own team that I sign them to, if I have a need.

#1 - 21 YO RHP from Canada, 6’5” 215, 4SFB, 2SFB, CH, CB. He’s a present 65 and future 80, so he’s very polished and would move quickly. Fastball is 94 so not *premium* velocity but if he pans out it looks like he’d be a Gerrit Cole - type of frontline starter (without the 100 mph). The only knock on him is a current below average BB/9 (projects to slightly above average). In my experience poor control stats are the most difficult to overcome and the easiest to hinder development. His other marks are all good enough to get him to the majors quickly but I’m concerned he’d struggle when he got there. If it wasn’t for the 35/55 BB/9 he’d be my no doubt choice.

#2 - 18 YO LHP from Tennessee. He has an 80/80 fastball completely maxed out for velocity which is something you don’t see from lefty starters not named Randy Johnson. He’s a future ace but at 55 overall would be a several-years long project to get there. Plenty can go wrong with a guy who needs that much development so this would be a higher risk, higher reward pick. O’s have taken high school pitchers with their first pick in consecutive drafts, so ideally I’d like to supplement with a more polished guy closer to the majors who is less of a project, but this would be a big one to pass up.

#3 is a 19 YO outfielder from Utah. L/L with future 80 power and every one of his other tools grading at least a 60. 80 power is very tempting and difficult to find, based on his profile looks like a Bryce Harper type of 5 tool player. My one hang up is that I’m relatively deep with outfield talent. This guy is still being scouted, but if his future overall 80 and future 80 power hold up he is going to stay in consideration.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I've only just booted up my Tigers franchise a few days ago... But it's been one hell of a ride!

So far we are off to a horrendous start where we have only managed to secure one win to take us to 1-8 on the season. During our 1-8 stretch we managed to show a lot of grit with 4 of our losses decided by one score and our lone win was a 6-5 victory over the Royals.

In all honesty our bad start is a combination of bad pitching, mistakes in the field and a lack of pop in the lineup. Our team statistics as it stands is as follows:

                                Pitching:

                                Hits Allowed:
We currently sit towards the bottom of the standings at 29th with a total of 94 hits allowed.

                                Runs Allowed:
Very much the same story as the hits allowed, we sit at 29th with a total of 53 runs allowed.

                                Home Runs Allowed:
A slight improvement on the standings here. We currently stand at 28th with a total of 17 home runs allowed.

                                Strikeouts:
We're currently tied at 27th with a total of 54 strikeouts on the season.

                                Batting:

                                Batting Average:
Our batting average currently sits at .233 (21st in the league) as a team thanks in part to Eric Thames who leads the team in this department with a batting average of .355 on the season.

                                Runs:
As a team we have compiled 29 runs on the season which puts us at 21st in the league. Thanks to the help of Eric Thames, Josh Harrison and Grayson Greiner who have 4 or more on the season.

                                Home Runs:
Without a doubt this is the worst facet of our game. We have a total of 4 home runs on the season which puts us dead last in the league.... And again, we can thank Eric Thames for this who has posted 2 home runs on the season.

So what have done to help turn this season around? We have made a trade, signed some free agents and called up prospects to the majors. Here's a look at the transactions we have made so far:

                                Transactions:
