    Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

    The Dodgers pick up win 100 on the season moving to 100-51 on the season. With a 14 game lead over the Rockies in the West and only 11 games left in the season, the Dodgers clinch the West for the 7th season in a row. (2nd with me).

    Others teams to have clinched their divisions:
    ALC: Indians
    ALW: Angels
    NLC: Cubs

    In AAA news: OKC Dodgers we’re eliminated by the Tacoma Rainiers 3 games to 2.

      Cardinals will work to lock up Flaherty and Albies in offseason

      The offseason is still a couple of weeks away for the Cardinals but the first inkling as to what their plans are has been made known, and neither should come as a surprise. The Cardinals will look to lock up both Jack Flaherty and Ozzie Albies to long term deals this offseason.

      Both are controllable for 2023 so neither is going anywhere, unless the Cardinals decide to move them, which isn't happening. But the Cardinals are hopeful to work out long term deals on both to essentially be the face of the organization for years to come. What length and money they will offer is yet to be known, obviously, but look for the Cardinals to aim for the 8-10 year range on both and around the $170M to $200MM mark.

      Will that be good enough, I guess will know come the Winter Meetings.
      I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

      I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

        Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

        Hi guys, first time posting here. I dont know if this has been addressed or discovered by someone else, but I figured it may be useful. I think I've made a mathematically solid conversion table for the 20-80 Scouting scale to how it reflects in the player ratings. Ignore this if it's common knowledge, but I havent been able to find it anywhere else.

        "20" = 0 to 8
        "25" = 8 to 15
        "30" = 15 to 23
        "35" = 23 to 30
        "40" = 30 to 38
        "45" = 38 to 46
        "50" = 46 to 53
        "55" = 53 to 61
        "60" = 61 to 68
        "65" = 68 to 76
        "70" = 76 to 84
        "75" = 84 to 91
        "80" = 91 to 99

        The idea is that there are 13 different tiers bases on the 20-80 scale, so 99 rating points divided by 13 tiers means that each tier has a range of 7.6 rating points for each grade (I rounded to the nearest whole number above). This explains why "80" overall potential players can range so wildly with their actual potential rating from a very good 91 to an MVP 99. It also explains why "50" is considered average. A player with 50 contact grade has a very average contact rating in the low 50s, which is fine for just one tool. But if all his tools are rated 50, so that his potential is also a 50, that explains why his potential is a D. I hope this is helpful to someone out there, and again apologies if it's been explained.

            Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

            So the Reds have played their first 5 Spring Training games and new manager David Bell got to see each of his expected starting pitchers pitch, even if it was just a couple of innings. So many new faces, old faces and faces that were once familiar and who are back again.

            I will be playing All-Star Pitching and All-Star Batting, I struggled last year on All-Star with batting but did okay with pitching. I have switched from Zone Batting to Directional and seem to be hitting the ball better...better influence of where the ball is going obviously. ONE, is Directional suppose to make it easier and TWO what do you use.

            So, a quick rundown of the Reds first five games...

            GAME 1 vs CLE
            PITCHING -
            Luis Castillo starts, goes 2 innings and gets a NO DECISION
            Sal Ramano gets the WIN after going 1 inning in the sixth inning
            Raisel Iglesias gets a SAVE going 1 inning

            BATTING -
            Jay Bruce picks up where he left off, hitting Home Runs at Great American Ballpark, going 1 for 2, driving in 2 with his long ball.
            Scooter Gennett, also went deep, going 1 for 2 with 1 RBI
            Riley Mahan, WHO?, a second baseman acquired by trade from Miami, Riley is a Cincinnati area native. Riley is a Non-Roster invite, Riley really impressed with his only at-bat, going yard and driving in three.
            Nick Senzel made his Center field debut, going 0 for 2 at the plate, but did not make an error. Manager David Bell, " We are happy to see Nick in Center, he made great reads. His bat will come around."

            The Indians out hit the Reds 9 to 6, but the Reds made them count, winning 6 - 3.

            GAME 2 vs SEA
            PITCHING -
            Mike Leake gets the start and a NO DECISION after 2 innings.
            John Lamb, a free agent signing, and once Reds prospect, gets the WIN pitching 1 & 2/3 inning.
            Matt Bowman gets the SAVE pitching 1 inning.

            BATTING -
            No Home Runs in today's game, but lots of doubles, 5 to be exact.
            Phiilip Ervin came in off the bench as a mid-game substitution, going 1 for 2, his double drove in 2 runs.
            Adam Dunn looks good getting two hits in 4 tries, Dunn is now 3 for 5, retirement did him good, so far.
            Shohei Ohtani came in as a replacement in Right Field, he went 0 for 2.

            Reds win 5 - 2.

            GAME 3 vs SFG
            PITCHING -
            Anthony DeSclafani gets the start and a NO DECISION after 2 innings.
            Homer Bailey, who was reacquired from the Royals, pitched 2/3 inning.
            Sal Ramano gets his second WIN after pitching the 9th inning.

            BATTING -
            Adam Duvall was traded back to the Reds from Atlanta, Duvall said he was super excited to be back in Cincy. He went 0 for 2 in his return. Little less excitement, more hits.
            Scott Schebler got 1 hit in 2 trips to the plate, but it was a 9th inning WALK OFF JACK. Hitting Coach, Turner Ward, had this to say, "That was CLUTCH".

            Reds win 1 - 0.

            GAME 4 vs CWS
            PITCHING -
            Sonny Gray gets the start, Sonny was traded for with the Stankees, oops! Yankees, darn spell check . Gray got a NO DECISION after 2 innings.
            Matt Bowman, got a 5th inning BLOWN SAVE giving up 2 runs allowing the Soxs to tie it 3 - 3.
            Jon Moscot, a Reds pitching PROJECT gets the LOSS allowing a run in the 6th.
            Matt Belisle, returning former Red and well traveled relief pitcher, went 1 inning allowing no runs and striking out the side in the 7th.

            BATTING -
            Cincy's bats were no where near the stadium today. Might have well been using broom sticks.
            Joey Votto finaaly got a hit, good thing it is only SPRING TRAINING, right?
            Nick Senzel, Reds top prospect, he too got his first hit.
            Jay Bruce gets his second Home Run.
            Shohei Ohtani came in as a replacement in Right Field, he went 0 for 2.

            Reds lose 3 - 4.

            GAME 5 vs MIL
            Pitching was terrible, Manager David Bell was at loss for words after the game when asked about today's 8 RUNS ALLOWED. Bell said, "Well, you know...Ummm...Pitching wasn't good...Ummm...you know." The Reds had an early lead but SDS SIMULATION PROGRAMMING had the Brewers make a comeback.
            PITCHING-
            Shohei Ohtani who the Reds outbid LAA to acquired him, then shelved for all of the 2018 season due to a UCL sprain, got his first Spring Training start. Ohtani went 2 innings, but allowed 1 run. Reds pitching coach, Derek Johnson, said "they were happy that Shohei felt fine after the game and seems to be fully recovered from last years injury." Lets hope so...
            Jonathan Broxton returns to the Reds too, a free agent signing and retired for a year, pitched the 8th inning and was the only Reds pitcher to not allow a run.
            Raisel Iglesias got a BLOWN SAVE in the 9th, giving up a SDS "NOT COMEBACK CODE" home run to allow the Brewers to tie it 8 - 8.

            BATTING -
            Travis Shaw, 3rd Baseman, acquired from the Brewers, went 2 for 2 against his old team. One hit being a 2 run Home Run.
            Shohei Ohtani went 1 for 1 with a single, and STOLE second and would cross the plate on a Scooter Gennett double.
            Adam Dunn had his own SAVE, he saved Iglesias's backside by driving a ball DEEP to left field for a walk off Home Run.

            Reds win 9 - 8.

              2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

              Aug 29: We followed up the heartbreaking 13 inning loss vs the Angels to end the Homestand, with a 16 inning heartbreaking loss on the road vs the White Sox!! They beat us on a walk off grab slam in the bottom of the 16th. Not ideal for your bullpen arms to be overworked like that back to back days! We did, however, bounce back and take 4 of the next 5 on the trip to finish 4-2. We split the 4 with CWS and then we swept the important 2 game series vs the Angels who were only 0.5 games out going into the series!

              Red hot Joc Pederson played in 5 games on the trip and hit 6 HR! He had two multi-homer games, including hitting 3 in a game for the second time this year(he went 4 for 4 with 4 solo HR earlier in the year). He now has 46 HR on the year, but still sits 5 behind his teammate and MLB HR leader Matt Carpenter(51). The amazing thing though is Pederson has over 100 less at bats then Carpenter on the year. His AB/HR is 8.8!!!!

              I’m prob going to Jinx it, but Trout pushed his hit streak to 20 straight games. That’s a team high for the season. He’s 2nd in the AL with a .334 Avg(JD Martinez .358).

              Stanek continues to do very well in the closer role. He’s now 7/8 saves since taking over and he was pushed on a day when he should have been rested when he blew the save because of the extra innings games.

              We currently sit at 81-53. OAK(79-54) is 1.5 GB and LAA(79-56) are now 2.5 GB. We now come home for a 4 game series vs SEA(49-85). We are 11-4 in the season series so hopefully we can keep that momentum vs them. We’ll then head back out on the road for 7 games vs NYY(66-69) and BAL(54-79).

                The regular season has finally concluded for 2019 and the much anticipated playoffs are now about to begin without the St Louis Cardinals this year. Gibson ended his season with an almost perfect game, allowing one hit on a bang bang play that Goldshmidt couldn’t quite dig out and was ruled a hit. 17 Ks, no BB and total thing of beauty by the Cardinal legend otherwise!

                IMG_0400.jpg

                First up is SF hosting ATL in the NL Wildcard. Gausman vs Rodriguez. I must say the Nationals vs Cubs series looks most intriguing so far to me in the divisional round but we shall see how it all plays out!

                    Dodgers take game one of the Divisional Series 6-4 over the Nationals. Clayton Kershaw earned the win for the Dodgers striking out 10 over 8 innings and giving up 4 runs. Kenley Jansen earned the Save giving up 1 hit and striking out 2 in the 9th.

                    Dodgers got the scoring started in the 3rd when Justin Turner hit a 3 run home run. The game was quiet until the 6th when the Nationals took a 4-3 lead off of a solo home run by Juan Soto and 3 run double by Raudy Read. Austin Barnes homered for the Dodgers in 7th. Then to wrap up the scoring in the 8th, both Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig drove in runs off of RBI Singles.

                    Greg Holland took the Loss for the Nationals in relief.

                      SF would waste no time getting 2 HRs in the 1st inning! A 2 run shot from Pence and a solo from Cepeda, going up 3-0 right away. Gausman would settle in but the Braves big bats just never really got going, despite Acuna and Dansby doing all they could. Chipper would get their only RBI on an infield sacrifice. But Will Clark pinch hitting for Rodriguez in the 6th would add another solo shot making it 4-1, and that’s how it would stay. Mathewson would provide a lights out 9th for the save. Hard watching such a stacked ATL team exit so early but that’s the nature of this league. This sets up an interesting game 1 against the Dodgers that was already slated as a NY Polo Grounds home game for them, and we all know that was more of a home for the Giants historically! NY will be treated to a double feature of sorts and should be a “festive” atmosphere to say the least haha!

                        Nationals take game two of the Divisional Series 3-2 to even the series at 1-1. Justin Miller earned the win for the Nationals in relief and Sean Doolittle earned the Save.

                        Nationals got the scoring started in the 5th when Stephen Strasburg singled in a run. The Dodgers scored 2 in the 7th when Max Muncy and Joc Pederson both doubled in runs. The Nationals ended the scoring with a 2 run home run in the 8th by Howie Kendrick.

                        Josh Fields took the loss for the Dodgers.

                          Juan Fabregas joins 20/20 club

                          Juan Fabregas belted his 20th homerun of the season last night in the 6th inning of the Cardinals 8-5 victory over the Nationals in Washington to join the 20/20 club. Fabregas now has 20 homeruns and 23 stolen bases on the season. Pretty remarkable feat for a player that hits 5th in the lineup exclusively. Juan Fabregas was taken in the 3rd round of the 2018 Amateur draft and quickly rose up the ranks to become the Cardinals everyday left fielder.

                          Trevor Rosenthal locks down his 30th save of the season

                          Also in last nights win, Trevor Rosenthal recorded his 30th save of the season, making it now 7 straight seasons Rosenthal has recorded at least 30 saves. It hasn't been the best of years for Rosenthal who a few weeks ago was removed from his closer role due to blown saves in favor of Roberto Osuna. Turns out that was just a temporary move by Mike Matheny to try to take the pressure off of Rosenthal and let him find his mechanics and dominance again.

                            The NLDS moves east to the Capital and the Dodgers take a 4-0 win to go on top 2 games to 1. Walker Buehler takes the win giving up 3 hits over 7 innings and striking out 6.

                            Max Muncy put the Dodgers on the board with a solo home run in 6th. The single run maintained until the the top of the 9th when the Dodgers rallied with 2 outs and put up 3 more runs off of back to back RBI singles by Chris Taylor driving in one and Justin Turner driving in 2.

                            Max Scherzer took the Loss for the Nationals giving up 1 run in 7 innings and striking out 10 while giving up 6 hits.

                            The Dodgers hope to close the series out tomorrow without having to travel back to LA to do it. Ross Stripling will take the mound for the Dodgers against Joe Ross.

                              Anyone ever try to rebuild a team but end up actually contending that same year? Lol

                              I was doing a mock Mets rebuild franchise, and I traded away a lot of pieces. deGrom, Thor, Diaz were all shipped off to start the season, and I DFA'd Cano and Frazier. The lineup was Nimmo, McNeil, Alonso, Conforto, Ramos, Smith, JD Davis, Pitcher, Rosario. The rotation was Wheeler, Matz, Vargas, James Shields and Wilmer Font. Seth Lugo was my closer and my bullpen consisted of Familia and a lot of lower 70/higher 60 relievers.

                              I've played out plenty of sims with the current rosters of 2019 NL East teams, and 95% of the time it was more or less a legit 4 team race through September. This time, I wanted it to be a battle with the Marlins for last. However ...

                              I ended up winning the division with 89 wins lmao. Alonso won rookie of the year. I'm pretty sure I even traded Ramos and used Hedges [from Thor trade] as my primary catcher, with Mesoraco as my backup. Lugo saved like 50 games. The rest of the division was just trash. Like I've never seen anything like it. Only the Braves finished above .500 with me.

                              It's all good cause I ended up getting swept in the first round of the playoffs, but I was just bamboozled. Here I was trying to rebuild this team and expected a losing season, but I won the dang division. Needless to say I am not playing on that file anymore lol.

                                Maybe Albies does fit in the 6th spot afterall

                                Several weeks ago, manager Mike Matheny went on a tirade to the media about the front office and their changing of the roster, thus unbalancing the roster and lineup that Matheny had been using. The Cardinals traded away Troy Tulowitzki to the Dodgers who anchored the 6th spot in the lineup when healthy and provided a solid bat along with power. When Tulo was traded, the Cardinals placed Ozzie Albies into that spot as that is what fit, since Corey Ray (everyday right fielder with Tommy Pham being traded) hitting in the 2 spot, which is ideal for him in this lineup. Matheny argued that Albies didn't fit into the lineup and the 6 spot and presented a challenge for the lineup. Fast forward, and Matheny has a different opinion.

                                "Maybe he does fit into the 6 spot", Matheny said with a smile on his face. "He has been extremely productive in that spot as we've given him time. He hits for average, gets extra base hits, has pop, and provides an element in our lineup at that spot we didn't have with Tulo and DeJong, which is speed. He can steal bases, we can hit and run, it provides us a new weapon we didn't have before and I personally never considered before."

                                Albies is currently hitting .262 with 11 homeruns and 40 RBI's. While the homeruns and RBI's may seem low for a number 6 hitter, consider that Albies has only played in 73 games this entire season as he was limited to platoon duties in Minnesota, after the Twins acquired Carlos Correa in the offseason. Albies does currently own a 8 game hitting streak, a 13 game on base streak, and has 4 homeruns, 6 doubles, a triple, and 10 RBI's in that span. Oh and he also has 5 stolen bases in that span as well.

                                Yeah..I'd say that Albies in the 6 spot of the lineup is working out quite well for the Cardinals.
