The Cardinals (90-72) concluded their 2022 season Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium with a come from behind 6-4 win over the Pirates. The Cardinals needed the win and a Braves loss to set up a tie and a game 163 to play for the right to earn the 2nd wild card spot. The Cardinals did their part, but the Braves walked off the Mets in the 10th inning thanks to Freddie Freeman's 300th career homerun.

The Cardinals lost on Friday night to put themselves squarely up against the wall and cost them the chance to win the Central Division as the Brewers beat the Marlins. The Cardinals were then 2 games behind both the Padres and Braves for the wildcard. After a thrilling 5-3 win on Saturday night where Nolan Arenado's 3 run homerun in the 7th propelled the victory, the Braves lost to the Mets again and the Cards were just one game back and still alive in the playoffs. But with the Braves win on Sunday, the season came to a screeching halt.

Very frustrating end to the 2022 campaign that saw the Cardinals be in the playoff race and in good shape most of the season until a bad stretch in September changed it all.

The Cardinals will now turn to their focus on their roster, potential free agents, potential trades and see where they fix some of the problems the 2022 team faced, primarily consistency from the starting pitching and major league ready depth for injuries.

Such a disappointing end to the season.

Tigers(43-39) Swept by Giants(39-41), Drop .5 Back of White Sox, Finish Dreadful Month of June 12-13

0 Runs, that's it. That is all that the Tigers could muster in total of the two game series against the Giants. A miserable showing at the plate resulted in an embarrassing sweep, and what is now the first day of the season in which the Tigers have not had a share of the AL Central Lead. I expect changes could be possible as yes this is a team who is overachieving, but one capable of competing as they have shown. The Tigers now get a day off of June, as they head to Comerica to start July agaisnst the Royals. This is a 3 game set that kicks off a set of 19 STRAIGHT divisional games, many of which look to be key to getting back in the divisional driver seat.

Nice work by the Mariners beating up and taking advantage of sub par pitching by the Padres. Mariners bats looking to have turned the corner and string together a few wins.

Tigers Make First Move of 2022 Season
The Detroit Tigers have ended June on what hopes to be a high note, making a deal for Austin Meadows from the Tampa Bay Rays, who seem to be somewhat out of the AL East as well as the Wild Card. In return they receive 3B Isaac Paredes who underwhelmed in some action at the major league level this year, but looks to add some much needed infield depth. Also involved was CF Daz Cameron who has hit .250 down at AAA, and they are looking to see if he can get it turned around, as he is only 25.

As for Meadows, the 26 year old OF looks to be a catalyst in the offense for the Tigers, looking to start a rally of an offense that has deeply been hit with struggles the past month or so. He has hit .251 at the major league level so far this season, with 19 Homers and 48 RBI, so he seems to fit right in the middle of the lineup, and a steal for the only 2 minor leaguers given up.

The Devils make a major move to set themselves up for the future and to stay in contention as well. The Devils traded Luis Castillo, Christian Arroyo, and Tanner Scott to the Yankees for LF prospect 67 overall B Potential Pedro Rosas and Starting pitcher Devi Garcia. Luis Castillo has been a huge disappointment since acquiring him at the beginning of the year with a 5.00 Era and wanted to shake things up. Both Arroyo and Scott haven't been great either. The Yankees are in first place and they acquired a guy who could turn it all around in New York and slot in behind Cole as a solid number two. They also get Arroyo a solid bench bat and another Lefty for their pen. For the Devil's they get their future Left fielder and a potential ace.

So far through the first two months of the year the Devil’s sit at .500 28-28 3 Gb of the division leading Astros. 1: 1B: Fernando Esparza 89 Potential 74 overall 6-5 beast has the same attributes as Ryan Mcbroom already. Not a fielder will most likely DH

2: SP: Leland Duffy 88 Potential 74 overall another solid pitcher.

3: C: Carmen Melendez 74 Potential 73 overall. He's definitely not rated high enough, he has 80 hit for left and right and 70 fielding not really any power though.

4: SP: Daniel Lorenz 71 potential 61 overall. Solid developmental piece.

5: CP: Carlos Estrada 87 Potential 67 overall. Hope to slide him into the pen next year.

6: Sp: Matthew McDaniel 77 Potential 62 overall needs some development.

7: Sp: Ricky Spanos 82 Potential 67 overall almost major league ready.

Hitting Studs:

Adam Eaton and Tim Anderson at the top of the order have been my best hitters so far. Eaton leads the team with a .302 average. Joey Gallo has the most homers with 14, Tim Anderson is right behind him with 13.

Pitching Studs:

In the rotation Foltynewicz has been the best pitcher by a mile with a 2.97 ERA. In the pen Mychal Givens and Jorge Alcala lead the way with ERA’s under 2.00.

Hitting Duds:

Pretty much the bottom half of the lineup hasn’t done much. Alfaro Busch and Keller are all under .250.

Pitching duds:

Drew Smyly and Tyler Anderson have both not been good and same with Luis Castillo. All have ERA’S over 4.50. will be looking to acquire more pitching soon.

Transactions:

Signed Drew Smyly, Wade Miley, and Mickey Moniak to 1yr deals.

Claimed Joel Payamps from the Royals optioned Tanner Scott.

Recalled Jared Hoying from Triple A and sent Christian Arroyo down.

Claimed Will Crowe from the Pirates.

Called up Will Crowe and Eugene Keller

Trades:

Acquired Carlos Carrasco from the Cubs for Aaron Slegers, Cameron Cannon and Ken Finnigan. Acquired Jorge Alcala from the Twins for Estevan Florial. I feel like Daz Cameron has been in the minors for like 8 years at this point haha great to see him actually doing decent.

1B Albert Pujols has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Pujols finished his career with a .297 avg, 680 HR, 2153 RBI and 3310 Hits

I am a total mess at the plate right now which is shocking to me because I was raking in 20 and I’m playing on an easier difficulty with slower pitch speed in 22. Just lost my third straight to the Dodgers, this time on a Freddie Freeman walkoff, he continues to make my life hell despite leaving the Braves. I cannot recognize an off speed pitch to save my life and I’m late on nearly every fastball. I’ve played 15-20 games so far and haven’t hit a HR with Alonso yet, luckily my pitching is keeping me in games. I’m 1.5 back from Atlanta and fading fast

Don't feel bad the I blew a lead to the Dodgers just the other day thanks to a Freeman grand slam. I swear, I don't think I've ever gotten him out in any version of this game.

Angels Game of the Week

In their first game after the All Star Break the Angels travelled to Atlanta to take on the Braves. It was a marquee pitching matchup that lived up to the hype as Shohei Ohtani faced Max Fried.

Pitching dominated throughout the game, with the Braves taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning on a Travis d'Arnaud solo homer. The Angels tied it in the 7th when Mike Trout hit his 25th home run of the season. With the game deadlocked at 1-1 in the 10th, the Angels managed to scratch out 2 runs thanks to rbi singles from Luis Rengifo and Austin Romine. Raisel Iglesias struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th to earn his 28th save of the season. The Angels improve to 61-36, while the Braves fall to 52-48.

The Angels will again take on the Braves Saturday night with Patrick Sandoval (8-8, 3.79) taking the hill for the Angels, and Mike Soroka (4-0, 4.91) throwing for the Braves.

Braves superstar outfielder Ronald Acuña was injured running the bases and initial reports are he suffered a sprained knee and will likely miss a few weeks.

All Star Break - 2023

With just under 100 games complete the team sits even at 49-49. 3rd in the division and 5.5 games back of the White Sox who have half a game lead over the Guardians. We are a tad bit closer in the Wild Card race. Currently 4 games back of the Red Sox and Rays who are tied for the 2nd spot. 1 game back of the Guardians in the 1st spot. The Dodgers and Blue Jays are tied for the best record at 63-35. While the Pirates are far and away the worst team at 28-71. 8.5 games back of the 2nd worst team the A's at 36-62.

Not much has changed with the offense over the last month and a half. The team is still hitting .245 but that is now 23rd in the league. 5 spots lower than we were at the end of May. Our OBP has dropped .306 to .302 putting us 28th in the league. Our Slugging has managed to go up now at .405 from .397 good for 19th in the league. The team has decided to move on from Hitting Coach Terry Bradshaw for the 2nd half of the season. We are signing Leo Manuta to take his spot.

After hitting 14 HR in April and only 5 in May Salvy found his power again hitting 14 since June with 6 of them coming in July so far. His 33 HRs lead the majors and he has 5 more than anyone else. He is also tied with Mike Trout for the most RBI in the majors with 74. He may have stolen that power from Nick Pratto though who has hit just 2 HR since June 1st.

Andrew Benintendi has managed to find some power in his bat as well after a slow start to the season. He is now hitting .267/.332/.432 with 13 HR. Unfortunately, Bobby Witt continues to disappoint this season. Now hitting .242/.300/.424 with 10 HR. He does have 24 doubles and 6 triples so far and his K% is down a bit. He was better over the 2nd half last season so hopefully, he can find his swing and get back on track from here on out. Jake Cave has had a nice couple of months since joining the team. After being none tendered by the Twins he has hit .270/.331/.503 with 9 HR in 46 games.

We lost Chad Pinder to a broken hand on May 26th. He wasn't playing very well so it didn't hurt much but with no one in the organization really ready to help us in the outfield we decided to make a move to try and upgrade there. It hasn't exactly worked out so far. We traded SP Adam Seminaris, RP Holden Capps and 2B Peyton Wilson to the A's for CF Ramon Laureano. Laureano has not been very good since coming back from his PED suspension. He hit .239/.307/.395 with 13 HR in 108 games last season. And at the time of the trade, he was hitting .169/.239/.331 with 11 HR in 67 games. We were hoping a little change of scenery would help him get back to what he once was. Short sample size so far appearing in just 7 games with us. He has a couple of homers but everything else is very similar so far. His defense was felt immediately though throwing a guy out at 2nd from the fence and it probably saved the game for us.

On the pitching side, things have fallen off a bit after a nice start to the season. We went from 17th in pitching with a 3.72 ERA to 21st with a 3.96 ERA. We have only 2 shuts-outs since June 1st after getting 6 in the first 2 months. We are still top 10 in Walks Allowed and Strikeouts as we sit in 9th in Walks with 294 and 10th in Strikeouts with 744.

Brady Singer And Danny Duffy are still the best starters on the team putting up ERAs of 3.07 and 3.40. Brad Keller has dropped his ERA from 4.65 to 4.03. After that, it's been a struggle. Carlos Hernandez was sent down after putting up a 5.58 ERA in 30.2 IP and Jace Vines was sent down after his ERA jumped from 4.34 to 5.40. Jonathan Bowlan took Hernandez's spot and has put up a 4.22 ERA in 32 innings so far. Daniel Lynch has made one start in place of Jace Vines and it was absolutely terrible giving up 7 ER in 3.2 IP. We will give him another start to see how it goes. The bullpen is still great overall so far. Not as good as it was but 6 of the 7 pitchers have ERA's under 4 with Taylor Clarke the lone man out at 4.40. Dillon Maples leads the way with a 1.92 ERA in 51.2 IP

We start the 2nd half of the season off with a few road series. We start in Cleveland for 3 games before heading down to Cincinnati for a quick 2 game series. Then it's off to the west coast to take on the Dodgers before heading back home to match up with the Guardians again. We have 36 games before September. 20 at home and 16 on the road. 9 games against the division and 25 against teams at or over .500. With the trade deadline fast approaching there might be a move or two on the horizon. Brad Keller is set to be a free agent next year so if the team struggles to start the 2nd half and he pitches well in his next couple games I might shop him around if the gets and see who needs a starter. If we come out and sweep the Guardians and Reds I may try and go grab a starter to push us towards a playoff spot.

The Cardinals (90-72) concluded their 2022 season Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium with a come from behind 6-4 win over the Pirates. The Cardinals needed the win and a Braves loss to set up a tie and a game 163 to play for the right to earn the 2nd wild card spot. The Cardinals did their part, but the Braves walked off the Mets in the 10th inning thanks to Freddie Freeman's 300th career homerun.

The Cardinals lost on Friday night to put themselves squarely up against the wall and cost them the chance to win the Central Division as the Brewers beat the Marlins. The Cardinals were then 2 games behind both the Padres and Braves for the wildcard. After a thrilling 5-3 win on Saturday night where Nolan Arenado's 3 run homerun in the 7th propelled the victory, the Braves lost to the Mets again and the Cards were just one game back and still alive in the playoffs. But with the Braves win on Sunday, the season came to a screeching halt.

Very frustrating end to the 2022 campaign that saw the Cardinals be in the playoff race and in good shape most of the season until a bad stretch in September changed it all.

The Cardinals will now turn to their focus on their roster, potential free agents, potential trades and see where they fix some of the problems the 2022 team faced, primarily consistency from the starting pitching and major league ready depth for injuries.

Such a disappointing end to the season.

Braves re-sign Freddie Freeman to 5 year deal

The Braves have re-signed 1B Freddie Freeman to a 5 year/$151MM deal. The 33 year old Freeman will now likely finish his career in Atlanta providing he's not traded at some point over the next several years.

Freeman slashed .309/.399/.530 with 30 homeruns and 92 RBI's last year for the Braves who reached the World Series for a second consecutive season, but came up short this time around.

With the core pretty much still intact, the Braves will likely be a favorite again to return to the postseason and be World Series contenders.

Angels re-sign SP Noah Syndergaard to a 4 year deal

The Angels have resigned SP Noah Syndergaard to a 4 year/$104MM deal. The 30 year old will return to the Angels who made the playoffs last season but lost in the ALDS.

Syndergaard started 32 games last year going 18-7 in those starts with a 2.20 ERA and 190 strikeouts over 208.2 innings pitched.

The Angels are likely to be strong contenders again in the AL West and American League overall.
