Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

A wild one in Queens between the Mets and Marlins. Miami jumps out to a 4-0 lead, then the Mets score 8 runs to make it 8-4. In the 7th inning with one on Chris Bassitt gets hit in the head with a line drive and has to leave the game, luckily it’s just a head contusion. Seth Lugo comes in and coughs up the lead to make it 8-8 then in the bottom of the 8th Jeff McNeil barely wraps a ball around the RF foul pole for a two run HR to give the Mets a 10-8 lead that they would hold on to for victory.

Starting pitching has been outstanding, Diaz has been great, and the offense is scoring runs but the middle relief is becoming a big liability. The trade deadline is approaching as it’s early July but I have no budget room to make any deadline deals so any bullpen fixes will have to be internal.

Bassitt has been bad for me. Carrasco just had his worst start giving up 5 runs in 5ip. Meanwhile, deGrom, Scherzer, and Megill are posting under 2eras.Trevor May and Shreve are my two RP who are iffy. The rest are great. Curtiss is out with injury for a while longer and Joely Rodriguez has filled in nicely. Trevor May so far will be sent down when Curtiss returns.

Like you said, in negatives for budget so no way to make trades. No idea how the off-season is going to work. Guess we'll be forced to cut salary somehow.

Bassitt has been ok for me, era in the mid threes but we seem to never score on the days he pitches.

Before I started my franchise I edited deGrom’s contract to only have one year left in order to mimic him opting out, when I look at next years budget I’ve only got $136 million committed so I think I can get through the off season without dumping any salary and still have room to sign deGrom and Diaz long term. Then I’ll just need to figure out if I’m bringing Nimmo back and use whatever money I have let to patch up the bullpen

Who is the odd man out in your rotation? I’ve been using a six man ever since deGrom came back

Great idea on editing his contract. Wish I would've thought about that. Taijuan Walker is my 6th starter in the pen. Megill is #5 starter

Tough Decisions Loom, Twins Lose Three of Four to Sox

In what was a huge homestand leading into the Allstar break, the Minnesota Twins fell flat on their face, and fell to 6.0 games back in division. After splitting a two-game series will Milwaukee, the Twins had a huge four-game series with division rival Chicago.

In game one on Thursday, Dylan Bundy lasted just two-thirds of an inning giving up six runs on six hits and a walk. Bundy was DFA'd two days later. The Twins had ten hits in the game, but continued their season long slump of hitting with runners in scoring position.

Minnesota rebounded on Friday night with a brilliant performance from Chris Paddack (6-5) as he went eight shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out nine. Gio Urshela had three hits and a couple RBI to lead the Twins offensive attack.

Saturday saw the Sox bats break out in an 8-4 win with twelve hits as Drew Strotman (2-3) has his first hiccup of the season. Strotman went just four innings allowing six runs on five hits and four walks. The Twins had eleven hits of their own, lead by Luis Arraez's three hits.

Sunday saw Minnesota looking to split the series, and after a three-run homer from Ryan Jeffers tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh, Yasmani Grandal deposited a 1-0 Joe Smith fastball into the seats in the 8th the give the White Sox the lead, the game and the series, 4-3.

The Twins will have some time to mull things over as the Allstar break has arrived with the Twins sitting four games under .500 at 47-51, six games off the pace in the AL Central. Detroit and Chicago are tied for the division lead.

Newcomers shine as Braves sweep Phillies

Jose Berrios tossed six shutout innings, striking out eight, in his Braves debut as Atlanta defeated Philadelphia 3-0 to complete a rare four-game sweep.

Recently acquired Josh Rojas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the win. The acquisition of Rojas turned heads around the lead, since the third-baseman was hitting just .171 at Triple-A for the Diamondbacks.

The Braves (56-22) now have a comfortable eight-game lead in the NL East. Atlanta heads to New York to face the second-place Mets for a three-game series.

                  Around the league ...

With the trade deadline now less than a month away, teams are starting to get active. The Yankees addressed bench depth by acquiring Rio Ruiz from Baltimore for a prospect. Houston added a first baseman, getting Renato Nunez from Detroit for a prospect.

League insiders expect both the Mets and Dodgers to be active as they try to track down the Braves and Padres respectively.

                    Urshela Twins Lone Allstar

Gio Urshela, in his first season with the Minnesota Twins, will start the 2022 Allstar Game in Los Angeles at second base for the American League Allstars on Tuesday night.

Urshela leads the majors with a .340 batting average, and also leads the Twins in homeruns (22) and RBI (71). He is slashing .340/.364/.588 on the year thus far for the 47-51 Twins.

Former Twin, Josh Donaldson, whom was traded for Urshela will start the game at third base for the AL.

                    Other's Snubbed??

Some other Twins that may have been snubbed include relievers Caleb Thielbar and Tyler Duffey, catcher Gary Sanchez, second baseman Luis Arraez and centerfielder Byron Buxton.

Thielbar received 144K votes and is 1-0 on the year with a 1.21 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched.

Duffey, who is tied for second in the AL with 25 saves, received 122K votes. Duffey is in his first full year as a closer and has an ERA of 2.80 in 35.1 innings pitched.

Sanchez, who also came over in the trade with Urshela, is hitting just .217 but has the third most homers by an AL catcher with 15. Former Twin, and current Ranger catcher Mitch Garver was also snubbed as he is hitting .261 with 16 homers. Another former Twin, and another player involved in the Yankees/Twins trade, Ben Rortvedt made the Allstar team despite hitting only .235 with five homers.

With just 324K votes, Arraez ended up ranking ninth in AL voting for second basemen despite having the highest batting average of all at the position with a .298 average.

And rounding out the possible snubs for Minnesota, Buxton has hit 14 homers and is second in the league with 24 stolen bases, but his .225/.285/.406 slash line is what ultimately kept him from making his first Allstar appearance of his career.

With a fourth place first-half finish in the division, the Twins should be happy they got anyone on the team. While they are not out of the race, the season is on the line over the next couple weeks of play as the front office mulls over whether they are contenders or sellers as the trade deadline approaches.

Braves take 3 out of 4 from the Padres in Cali!
3B Riley was on fire this series! Going 10 for 15, with 3HR,5RBI! The 3 games we won we scored 3 runs only, but they were pitching duels that I like. It keeps me on top of my game defensively. It was a helluva 4 game series with the Padres. Their pitching staff is very good!

We moved back into 1st place (10-7) with the Mets (8-7) currently being a 3-game skid! We lead the NL East 0.5 over the 2nd place Marlins (9-7).

Here are some outstanding players so far through 17 games played:
                      SP Fried 2-0,27.0IP,25K,2.33ERA & 0.81WHIP
                      SP Soroka 3-0, 25.0IP,19K,2.52ERA & 1.12WHIP
                      CP Jansen 6SV,8.0IP,8K& 2.25ERA
                      RP Minter 7.0IP,7K,0HR & 1.29ERA
                      1B Olson BA .333,6HR,11RBI
                      RF Acuna Jr. .328,6HR,52B,11RBI
                      3B Riley .404,5HR,42B,8RBI
I currently have Minter in the MRP slot but will be moving him the SU role. Will Smith is iffy with 7.36ERA and 2HR allowed in 3.2IP.

Up next: We are heading to Hollywood to face the 10-6 Dodgers, with Freddie Freeman. This will be the first time I ever pitched to Freeman. I have always used the Braves since playing the Show series for 22 yrs. Heck I just stop trading for Heyward when doing a Braves franchise with the immergence of RF/CF Ronald Acuna Jr.

Mets bullpen got absolutely bludgeoned by the Marlins after a 1-0 game in the 7th turned in to a 10-0 win following a seven run 7th and a two run 8th. We ended up splitting the series and still hold an 8.5 game lead over Atlanta as we start a three game set in Atlanta. I’m giving serious consideration to DFA’ing Seth Lugo at this point

Cardinals drop series to Reds in St.Louis

The Cardinals (29-26) dropped 2 games of a 3 game series with the Reds at Busch Stadium in St.Louis. The Cardinals find themselves now 4 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won Monday evening with Miles Mikolas on the mound and the offense was productive. The Cardinals would roll to a 7-1 victory. But that is where the fun ends. The Cardinals would be shutout the next two games losing 10-0 on Tuesday and then 1-0 in 10 innings on Wednesday.

Hopefully the Cardinals bats will wake up as they welcome the Pirates to town for a 4 game series.

Tigers part ways with several key pieces at deadline as rebuild continues

                            July 31, 2022

Spencer Turnbull (0-6, 5.74) Robbie Grossman (.220/.263/.339), Michael Pineda (4-8, 3.51) and Michael Fulmer (0-1, 3.27) all veterans with expiring deals, have been sent packing to various contenders. In exchange the Tigers have secured the rights to some new faces:

                            SP Hans Crouse (A)
                            RF Taylor Trammell (AAA)
                            CP Jose Marte (MLB)
                            RP Demarcus Evans (MLB)

NOTE: I have also taken the liberty of picking up RP Sam Howard, C Ali Sanchez and SS Brendon Davis off “waivers” to keep with the irl club; though this activity will cease as the trade deadline is where my team and the irl team will truly diverge. I’ve already made my moves, they will make their own — I’m on my own now.

                            Michael Fulmer to Phillies bullpen.
Michael Pineda is now the #4 SP in Colorado.
Spencer Turnbull joins the Seattle Mariners as their #3.
Robbie Grossman now starting in RF for the Texas Rangers.

                            * * *

With Turnbull and Pineda out of the picture the Tigers’ starting rotation will be

                            Tarik Skubal (6-6, 2.84)
                            Casey Mize (6-4, 3.35)
                            Beau Brieske (2-6, 4.43)
                            Alex Faedo (1-3, 6.39)
                            Matt Manning (3-2, 5.70)

“These are our guys. They’re young, they’ve got a lot to prove and a lot to go through yet, but this is what we drafted. These are our guys.” Someone said.

The Tigers enter play today at 47-60, 12 games back in the AL Central, 3-7 in their last 10.

With Turnbull and Pineda out of the picture the Tigers’ starting rotation will be

                              Tarik Skubal (6-6, 2.84)
                              Casey Mize (6-4, 3.35)
                              Beau Brieske (2-6, 4.43)
                              Alex Faedo (1-3, 6.39)
                              Matt Manning (3-2, 5.70)

“These are our guys. They’re young, they’ve got a lot to prove and a lot to go through yet, but this is what we drafted. These are our guys.” Someone said.

The Tigers enter play today at 47-60, 12 games back in the AL Central, 3-7 in their last 10.
