Yankees Take 2 of 3 From Guardians To Open July

Game 1 would be lost to a late inning collapse, where the combination of Loaisiga, Holmes, and Wandy Peralta, allowed the Guardians to put 3 runs in both the 7th and 8th innings, leading to a 8-5 Guardians victory. Jose Ramirez would do most of the damage, with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s.

In Game 2, we responded with a dominant 7-0 win, propelled by a Blake Snell gem as he tossed 8 innings of shutout ball. Jose Ramirez had a day off.

In game 3, the series would conclude with an 11 inning thriller where Cleveland once again struck back late to tie it 3-3 going into the 9th. Judge and Donaldson would break the tie in the 11th, each of them hitting a solo HR. In the bottom half, with Luetge, Green, Chapman, Loaisiga, and Holmes, already deployed, Miguel Castro would save the day locking down the save. Yankees Win 5-3.

    Yankees News:

Report: Yankees Scouts Watching Cubs Willson Contreras
The Yankees have already been quite active this season as the trade market heats up, most recently in smaller ways out of necessity, and word is they don’t intend to move any more key prospects this season, but they aren’t necessarily done yet, and rumors say they continue to monitor the catching market.

Contreras is in the middle of a career worst season, limping to an ugly 190\254\312 line with a 566 OPS, tanking his value. He’s also set for FA at the end of the season. Despite his disastrous season, New York just might take a shot on him if the chance is there to buy low.

    MLB News:
Rays Acquire DH Nelson Cruz From Nationals

To the surprise of many, the ageless slugger is headed back to Tampa Bay for a second run with the Rays. Cruz adds a boost to the middle of their lineup as they look to hold on to the top WC spot, and work on closing the 12 game gap between themselves and the East leading Yankees.

We swept the Phillies to push our winning streak to eight. We head home to Atlanta with a 15-game lead in the division. But now we have a four-game series with the Dodgers, who always seem to give us fits. It’s the first meeting since we rallied from down 3-1 to beat them in the NLCS.

Bryce Harper was running away with the NL MVP and threatening to take the triple crown. But Freddie Freeman has now passed him in average and HRs and is just four RBIs behind him.

One trade: The Mariners get Brandon Belt for a pitching prospect. Belt was having a solid year for the last-place Giants and is a FA at season’s end. The Mariners are seven back in the West but right in the thick of the wild-card race.

Mets lose patience with SP Chris Bassitt

Mets manager has inserted Taijuan Walker in the rotation replacing Chris Bassitt who just hasn't got into a rhythm yet this season.

Bassitt who was injured early in the year has started only 10 games. His 3-5 record with a 6.03era and 1.52 whip is enough to put him in the bullpen as their long reliever, hoping there he can find his stuff again.

Taijuan Walker has been very good the first two months of the year. Has appeared in 13 games with one start this season. He has a 3.66era in only 32 innings of work. His 1.06 whip is what is really impressive and will give him a role in the rotation. Manager has told the media it is his job to lose now and they are confident he can continue his good season.

Walker will get tested immediately as he will start game one of a four game set in LA vs the Dodgers. Mookie Betts leading the Dodgers offense with a line of .344 11hr 33rbi. Perrenial Allstar shortstop Trea Turner is on the IL so the Mets will at least not have to face him.

            2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 09/05-09-07

Overall Record:90-51 (1st NL West 8.0 over SD Padres)

Arizona becomes second team to 90

The Arizona Diamondbacks won the series against the San Diego Padres, 2-1. The two wins put the Diamondbacks at 90 wins on the season. Thus far only the Yankees (93-49) and now the Diamondbacks have reached that mark.

This series started off with both teams scoring early. In game one, Arizona led off the game with four first inning runs. One of those runs came on another Wilmer Difo leadoff HR and three game on a three run shot by David Peralta. Not to be out done, San Diego posted a five spot in their half of the inning thanks to two homeruns of their own by Jake Cromenworth and Matt Beaty. The teams scoring slowed down after that but didnt stop. San Diego took the elad in the 7th inning with a three run shot by Luke Voit that made the score 8-7. However, in the next inning, Perdomo came through for Arizona with a two RBI single to take the lead and the game 9-8.

Game two saw San Diego snap Arizona's winning streak with a 2-1 extra inning victory.

Game three was all Arizona in a 7-1 victory.

**note I actually lost game two, 3-2 but for some reason it did not save so I simulated and luckily still lost...2-1.

The Diamondbacks will now continue their road trip, going to Colorado to take on the last place Rockies (66-75)

            NL Homerun race
Fernando Tatis and Ketel Marte are in a battle for the NL homerun crown for the remainder of my updates this season I will post an update on that race.

            Fernando Tatis-41
            Ketel Marte-38

Cardinals sweep mini 2 game series from Twins

The Cardinals (9-3) swept the mini 2 game series with the Twins to start the week. The Cardinals continue to win series at the start of the season.

Jack Flaherty got the ball in the series opener but for the 2nd straight game, he would get a no decision as the offense let him down. Flaherty gave up no runs on 3 hits over 8 innings of work. He currently has an ERA of 0.43 and a 1-0 record. The bats took the lead in the Top of the 9th thanks to a 3 run bases clearing double by Adam Duvall. The Cards would win 3-1.

Luis Castillo earned his first victory as a Cardinals on Wednesday as he went 6.1 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and striking out 6. Thankfully for Castillo, the bats woke up to the tune of 8 runs on 11 hits including 4 homeruns. The Cards won 11-5.

The Cardinals will now travel to Arizona for a 4 game weekend series with the Diamondbacks.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

So, another 7-game losing streak culminating with blowout losses of 11-1 and 10-1 … but then we rebound to win back-to-back games on the strength of back-to-back shoutouts, 4-0 and 3-0. Nice.

September call-ups in effect, LF Akil Baddoo and RP Jason Foley have rejoined the team. CP Jose Marte has been DFA’d to make room for 3B Jeimer Candelario who came off the IL this week.

Also returning from the IL is SP Eduardo Rodriguez who hasn’t pitched since May, but this will only offset the loss of SP Tarik Skubal who went on the 15-day IL the same day.
                Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Cardinals win another series, this time against the Diamondbacks

The Cardinals (12-4) won another series to start this season, this time taking 3 games of a 4 game series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona over the weekend.

The Cardinals lost the series opener on Thursday but turned around and won Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and lead the NL Central by 1.5 games over the early surprising Pirates. The Cardinals got a scare when Jack Flaherty left his start on Sunday in the 4th inning, but turns out its just shoulder tightness and for now he's day to day.

The Cardinals will travel to Colorado for a 3 game series with the Rockies.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                      Twins Call Up Royce Lewis

Following a terrible must-win homestand, the Minnesota Twins have finally called up shortstop Royce Lewis from Triple-A St. Paul.

Lewis, 22, has been considered the top Twins prospect the past few years and will provide some versatility in the field as he can also play some outfield.

At St. Paul this year, Lewis has played in 88 games slashing .262/.319/.468 with 20 doubles, 16 homers, 47 RBI and 8 stolen bases. After missing most of the last two years (COVID in 2020 and injured in 2021), Lewis finally appears to be healthy and looks to contribute right away for Minnesota as they try to fight to stay in the playoff race.

Outfielder Gilberto Celestino was optioned to St. Paul to make room.

The Twins travel out west for a five-game road trip in Los Angeles, with two games with the Dodgers and three games with the Angels over the weekend. The Twins currently sit in third place in the division, eight games back of the Chicago White Sox.

                        I hate the Dodgers.

They've smoked us 7-0 and 7-2 in the first two games of a four-game series. Hopefully we can rebound to get a split.

I’ve restarted my season so many times after one month because more than half my line up is always hitting under .200 so I decided to stop pretending I’m good and drop the hitting difficulty down to all star and 9 games into the season I’m enjoying it a lot more. I kept pitching on legend and only slider changes were adding +1 to CPU power and solid hits. And gameplay injury +3.

I’m 4-5 with the cubs. Got swept in 3 games by the reds in the opening series. Swept 2 games against St Louis. And split a 4 game series with the brewers.

                              Halo Notes
                              • The Angels are hoping to get starting RF Taylor Ward back in time for the postseason. Ward who suffered an arm injury and is currently on the 10 Day IL is an important piece to their offense.
                              • After a slow start on the mound and at the plate Shohei Ohtani is again putting up MVP numbers. On the mound Ohtani sports a 16-8 record with a 2.95 ERA, he's also notched 210 strikeouts. At the plate he's slashing .290/.367/.625 with 37 2b, 6 3B and 31 HR. He also has 15 stolen bases
                              • After missing most of last year due to injury, Mike Trout is having a huge bounce back season. He's putting up a ridiculous slash line .320/.418/.639, giving him a 1.056 OPS. This goes with his 38 HR's, 90 RBI and 11 Stolen bases. His .320 batting average currently leads the AL.

                                Minnesota Splits in LA

The Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers split a two-game mid-week series in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers would take game one 5-1 behind a strong outing from Dustin May. May (3-3) would go six strong allowing five hits and the lone run. Bailey Ober (5-3) battled but ultimately only lasted four and two-thirds innings allowing three runs and six hits.

In game two on Wednesday, Joe Ryan continued his upward trend with seven shutout innings in a 4-2 Twins win. Ryan (5-9) lowered his ERA to 4.88 allowing just four hits and recording six strikeouts. Byron Buxton delivered a three-run shot in the four-run sixth for Minnesota.

The Twins will enjoy an off-day in LA before switching back to the American League and taking on the Angels for a three-game weekend series. Pitching matchup for Friday aims to be Chris Paddack (8-6, 3.81) for the Twins and Noah Syndergaard (5-7, 3.96) for Los Angeles.

Lewis Goes 1-for-3 in MLB Debut on Tuesday

Top Twins prospect Royce Lewis was called up on Monday and promptly made his major league debut on Tuesday against the Dodgers. He started at third base and batted seventh in the lineup.

Lewis grounded out the shortstop in his first at-bat in the second before getting his first major league hit, an infield single, in the fifth. He walked in the seventh before grounding out to third in the ninth.

Moving forward the Twins will try to find him at-bats while moving him all over the field. He had the day off on Wednesday.
