Re: MLB The Show 22 Trade Discussion Thread

Yeah after putting Mullins on the block to start my Orioles franchise, the Padres offered Gore and Abrams. Nobody is injured at this point ion my franchise

I went to the simulator and instead got Abrams, Gore, Hosmer, and Myers for John Means and Austin Hays and 2 lower level prospects. Part of me thinks "Abrams and Gore are untouchable" but the same has been said about a million other prospects.

Padres save millions and get some decent players and prospects. Orioles better prepare for the future. What do you all think? I might throw in Baumann so that Orioles are getting eqaul value for the "high" values of Gore and Abrams.

The hardest thing to evaluate is money saved...Padres are saving almost $30M and getting out of luxury tax territory

The Twins feel like they're a year or two away from being in a similar position. It just feels too early to be making a move like that. Crazier things have certainly happened though, and it's fair value so I think it's reasonable if the poster wants to go that route.
100% agree, and they obviously felt like they had a solid of chance of keeping him long term.

I mean, if the OP of the trade is running the Twins, and he has them as a competitive up-and-coming team, I could see it being the type of move. Jays dealt from a position of strength in their prospect pool...Orelvis Martinez is reasonably close, and Groshans is also in their top 3 prospects, so it's not as if they created a giant hole in their prospect pool. Both may not stick at short, but with them, and Bo seemingly set as their SS for a while, it wasn't a team killer.

Think that's why, if I were running the Twins here, I'd be semi-OK moving Martin again (Not Royce though...).

While it's fair, it's probably unlikely the Padres trade the entire farm to unload Hosmer and acquire a big bat. It would be more likely they attach a prospect to unload Hosmer. Also, I could see them trade a prospect for Mullins, but not both because it would cost too much.

Also Abrams seems to be untouchable based on tgeir unwillingness to trade him in a Bryan Reynolds deal. Campusano, Weathers, Morejon, and Hassell are the more likely ones

Looking at a trade centered around two players who might need a change of scenery.

Yankees - 2B Gleyber Torres (10.8 Trade Value)
Nationals - CF Victor Robles (2.3 Trade Value)

This would allow me to put LeMahieu full time at 2B while Marwin Gonzalez can play backup at 2B, SS, 3B. I'm also looking to part ways with Joey Gallo. Looking to balance out my lineup and inject some speed back into it with Robles. Looking at 3B Carter Kieboom possibly too, but he seems more of the same and isn't an upgrade though he could conceivably take Donaldson's spot after 2023.

Not sure this makes any sense for either team. But, I'm desperately trying add some balance back to the lineup between power and speed. Plus, I can't hit with Gallo...just like in real life.

Playing as the Red Sox, currently on July 5 at 51-34 and looking to improve my lineup since I have only four players with an OPS over .750. Was looking at trading for Rhys Hoskins since Philly is 5 games under .500 and has the worse defense on the season.

Hoskins is hitting .237/.359/.474 with 17 home runs. They're hitting as a whole team but this would allow them to imptove thier defense. And I need a good bat because the Rays and Jays are on my heels

Re: MLB The Show 22 Trade Discussion Thread

First time using the baseball trade simulator. I've relocated/rebranded Tampa Bay as the Montreal Royals - minor league affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers where Jackie Robinson played for one season in 1946. With that out of the way.....

I feel like Montreal has a surplus of OF and SP. So I made the following trades...

Montreal trades LF Harold Ramirez and CF Brett Phillips to the Cubs
Chicago trades 2B David Bote to Montrea
              l
Chicago also outright releases Jason Heyward

My thinking is that Montreal still has (had) Margot, Kiermaier, Arozarena, and Meadows**, with Hulsizer, Lowe, and Infante in the minors waiting to be called up. Phillips and Ramirez are not in my long term plans. Acquiring Bote gives us a utility player that can play 6 positions. He also allows us the flexibility to possibly move Brandon Lowe to the OF.

Chicago moves on from Jason Heyward and now have Happ, Ramirez, Frazier, Phillips, Ortega to play OF with Velazquez in the minors. Phillips and Ramirez are on expiring contracts, so no long term commitment.

              My 2nd trade was....

Montreal trades SP Ryan Yarbrough to the Orioles
Orioles trade SP Jorge Lopez, SP Conner Greene, and SP Kyle Brnovich

I don't know how realistic this is IRL, but it gives Baltimore a quality starter on an expiring contract in exchange for 3 players that add depth to the minors. With Glasnow, Kluber, McClanahan, Rasmussen, Fleming, Baz, and Patino on the depth chart, Yarbrough isn't in our long term plans and was expendable. Depending on where we stand at the trade deadline, Kluber could be moved to.

With the Bote trade and similar players in Tyler Frank and Taylor Walls, and C Ford Proctor (2b, SS, 3B), I don't think I will do the Meadows / Paredes trade in my Franchise.

I'm curious to know if you guys feel these trades are too unrealistic? And if it's unrealistic to think the Cubs could waive/release Heyward?

I think Gleyber is a great change of scenery guy for franchises this year. I traded for him in my Phillies franchise and he's absolutely raking. I left Bryson Stott down to start the year so I have Gleyber at 2nd right now. Planning to move him to third next year and incorporate Stott as a starter in the infield.

I think sending him to the Nationals for Kieboom and Robles would be reasonable. All 3 are pretty much change of scenery guys and each team will be hoping that they can rediscover the spark that they've lost.

Washington might be able to get away with underpaying for Gleyber since he's dropped off significantly since his big year and they brought in IKF over the off-season. Maybe just a straight swap - Kieboom for Torres - would be better?

The Phillies don't seem to be at all interested in defense lol. If they're under .500, I would bet that they'd double down on their offense rather than try to balance the team out.

Regarding the Cubs trade....the Cubs actually traded Ramirez to the Rays in March because they also had a log-jam of outfielders so not sure it makes a ton of sense for the Cubs to take on two more outfielders that aren't clear upgrades over the other in house options.

I think Bote is the type of interesting player the Rays like to acquire, just not sure if this trade is a match. Maybe a team like the White Sox could use some outfield depth? Danny Mendick sort of profiles as a similar player as Bote

I do think there is certainly a realistic scenario where the Cubs have to move on from Heyward this year to open a roster spot for the other outfielders though.

but don't know if it realistic lost Randy to the season Already traded away Kiermaier need a big bat and solid outfielder willing to over pay but don't know if its possible without trading baz and not sure I want to trade him any opinions or insight is thankful

I would think that's pretty close to fair value, hard to say who is getting the better end of the deal. Lewis obviously won ROY in the short-season, but has battled injuries and didn't have outstanding numbers in the minors (even his 2020 wasnt as great as I was expecting looking it up).

Controllable pitching is always valuable, even if they have had some ups and downs like Plesac.

I almost feel like both teams need to throw in another guy to make something happen

Seeing as how he is on pace for a 6+ WAR season, I find it unlikely they trade him without Baz. I forgot where Baz is ranked, but they asked for CJ Abrams from SD in addition to Weathers and Paddack

I realize the stats are different between the game and real life, but it gives me a good idea as to whether or not the deal is fair on the surface.

Just starting up a Mariners Chise, looking to add some good prospects in a deal for OF Kyle Lewis, trying to see where makes the most sense to ship him off to. I was thinking off the top of my head of a few teams that might be interested in Lewis (Padres, Phils, Marlins, Indians) and just wanted to see what everyone else thought?
