Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
Haven't posted in here in a while but I have been playing pretty much non stop this summer. Year 1 with Milwaukee traded away Prince about two weeks before the break for Ike Davis, Jon Neise, and Brad Emaus. Turned out to be a great trade. Ike came over with 19 HRs and 49 RBI, finished the year with 40 HRs and 110 RBI. While Prince managed to hit only 36. Probably won't happen again but a great first year with us. Neise went 2-0 with us with one start where he threw a CG Shutout. Finshed 12-1 out of the pen (came over 10-1). Emaus was a non factor and mostly played in Nashville.
We finished 90-72 and won the Central over the Cards by 2.0 games. Played the Rockies in the NLDS and swept them easily 3-0. The NLCS on the other hand was a much better series. We played LA and lost the first two in LA. Won the next three in Milwaukee and then lost the last two back in Los Angeles and lost in 7 (3-4).
p.s. Probably played around 65 of the games during the regular season and all of the playoff games.
Year 2
Let some pitching go but locked up the core of the team for a while in the offseason (Braun, Gallardo, Greinke, Marcum, Morgan, etc..)
This year I will play closer to all of the games and I will rarely sim.
So far we are 11-15 and 4.0 games out of first after the first series in May. (Played all) Pitching has been our biggest struggle so far. Greinke is pitching well, as is Gallardo and Marcum. But our last two spots (Wolf, Neise) have not played well at all. So far Wolf is 1-3 with a 7.71 era. Neise is 0-3 with a 6.30 era. Also, our bullpen minus a couple guys is flat out terrible. It seems if our starters are not on and cannot go deep with a lead to get Axford in, we lose. Our last three series we have gotten swept in ATL, Swept Florida at home in three low scoring games, and got swept at home against San Diego in three games where we didn't really put up a fight in any.
We are on the road next in Arizona for three games so hopefully we can take two.
Also, I am looking to trade Rickie Weeks because he is doing the same thing he did last year early. (Last year I stuck with him throughout and he finished with his BA around .198 with about 12 Hrs) And it seems as though he is on pace to do it again after a month and three games. We also need a reliable lefty in the pen. Who do you guys recommend we go after? I am also willing to give up a young prospect for a great reliever as well. Any thoughts are welcome.Comment

VENTERS+AXFORD=unstoppable in late innings (but venters wont be easy to get you'd have to drop a lot for him so i dont know if its worth it i think chapman might be easier to acquire. if you have an A potential starting pitcher down in AAA level you might be able to get chapman in a 1 for 1 swap. i've played with chapman he routinely hits 100mph on his fastball but his clutch rating is low like 40% where venters is like 90%)
as far as second basemen go i don't really know i've got dan uggla and he's a little old (30 beginning of season 1) but he also has a 5 year (pretty sure its 5) contract for like 1.5 million a year. i'm 5 games into the season and he already has 5 home runs. (2 in one game) but he's got power against L and R handed pitchers. he'll easily jack 30 home runs for you. i don't know i'm a braves fan so you know i'm just gonna push braves players! haha. Gordon Beckam on the White Sox is a decent 2B but he needs alot of growth but his potential is A and his rating is probably like 65-75% first season. but he's young or Neil Walker on the pirates if you can get him at 2B. those are two pretty young decent prospects both A potentials.
as far as your trade with mets what you probably should have done is given Fielder for Ike Davis/Rueben Tejada(2B) and John Neise. i bet you could have gotten that too but its too late now. i don't know if it was me there would be no way i'd get rid of fielder to begin with! haha! see if you can trade Rickie Weeks+Neise(or Wolf) +AAA/AA (A potential pitcher) for Mike Leake/Travis Wood/Aroldis Chapman from the reds. that trade would be a blockbuster if you could pull it off and then sign Christian Guzman from free agency at 2B then scout 2B's for the draft.
Or if you can wait it out put Wolf/Niese/Rickie Weeks up on the trade block and you'll be able to get more for them if from the interested teams if you wait for them to show interest. i'd say just boot Niese i've had him before and he sucks in that game. he might have gone 12-1 in that one season but he's a B level potential and a B rating i believe so he's young and he's already hit his ceiling. i'd just boot him. so if a team makes an offer just look over their RP lineup and 2B lineup and get all that you can because those players will be worth way more to those interested teams than if you choose a team that isnt interested.Last edited by citizenbrain; 09-15-2011, 06:04 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
well for relief pitchers i'd try to get Aroldis Chapman he has a 5 year contract with the reds for like 435k /yr and he's 23 yrs old/A potential and A in velocity or I'd try to get jonny venters but that wont be easy from the braves, he is DISGUSTING. i'm playing with a braves franchise and with him and kimbrel if i'm ahead going into the 7th with venters doing the 7,8 and kimbrel in the 9 its basically over if i'm leading end of the 6th inning.

We our pretty stacked at the SS and 2B positions. We let go Betancourt in the offseason and signed Alex Gonzalez to man short. Also, signed Hairston and Scutaro. After those guys are done we have Emaus, another guy whose name slips my mind, and Taylor Green. So we are fine in the middle infield. Just need a couple key pitchers.
Also, I think the only way I would make that Cincinnati trade is if they start to fall out of contention. I can't see them making that trade if they are in any way fighting at the half way point.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
Played the first two games of the Arizona series. Lost the first one 8-3. Then won the next game 12-6. So we are sitting at 12-16, 5.0 games out of first. I won't be able to play tomorrow, but on Saturday I will be able to finish the series and start on the Dodgers series in LA.
It's a rematch of the NLDS but with two very different teams. The Dodgers also picked up Jose Reyes in the offseason so it will be interesting to see him in the white and blue.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
Man Kuroda is tearin it up, overall 2.62 era (5th in NL) with a 7-2 record so far. Fister's also near the top in ERA, never thought he'd be this good the game. I was hoping Kuroda would give me a reason to let him go at season's end just b/c he's rather old but looks like he's gonna force me to sign him again. I wouldn't give him more than 2 years and 10mil+/yrLakers | Michigan | DodgersComment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
So.. my 11-19 Brewers were taking on the 18-11 Braves in ATL. It was Zack Greinke's debut on the year. Long story short, I put up 3 in the first (Braun RBI Single, Fielder HR) and coast from there until the 5th when they tie it up at 3 after a bunch of hits.
It stays tied all the way to the tenth when Takashi Saito leads off. Looking for my best hitter against lefties, I pinch hit Yovani Gallardo. It pays off as he HOMERS TO CENTER to give me the 4-3 lead and eventually the win.
He pitches tomorrow against the Braves to hopefully take home the series win, but I can imagine the hate that I will be getting from that crowd..Brewers | Golden Eagles | Packers | Bucks | Badgers | Fulham FC

I find it hilarious that you guys think Chapman is a one-for-one swap.Comment

Alright then. Sorry about the little hostility, but when I saw "you guys" I thought I was being put in there. But yeah, there is no way I would make a one-for-one with Chapman. No way.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
Playing as the Braves. I finally got another copy of the show after my disc cracked. I was trying to finished the month of June on a high by sweeping the M's.
Well I didn't have much luck. I lost 5-2 to Pineda. I had on the ropes early, but I could not get the clutch hit. Chipper was on fire before the series against the M's. He went 0-10 for in the series. Uggla and McCann are hott righ now. Ugg has more power, he crushes inside fastball pitches. I have 15HR 32RBI with him, but he's batting .240. McCann is the same but less power, he has 9HR 29 RBI, batting .243. That is about my team batting avg. .230.
That is why I only have 28 wins to start the month of July.
I opened the series at home vs. the Orioles. I jumped out the btm of the 1st 2-0. But Mark Reynolds went 3-4 2HR, 2B 3RBI. He led the way for them beating up Millwood 7-2.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread
I am pleased that the developers created the patch to assign generated players in Franchise Mode with random batting stances. I feel that time should be spent playing or simulating instead of modifying stances or adding accessories. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o

However, I just completed year 2019 when I went into the off season to discover that the generated players from the previous season's draft had been assigned generic 1 batting stances and pitching deliveries. <o></o

Has anyone else experienced a reversion back to generic 1 batting stances and pitching deliveries? <o></o
