I get too much offense but I use the Tigers...

My team ~25 games into the MOM season is hitting .300+ with a near .500 slg%... Pitching staff has an ERA just above 4.00.

Having just completed a series with the Tigers, I have no doubts you are seeing lots of offense. They crushed my pitching staff.

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion

I enjoy watching CPU and I've been following this thread for a bit. It seems like one issue that I've read about was about the excessive amount of singles. I had last years version for the PS3 and I downloaded this years demo. What are the differences beside graphical with viewing this game this year? I do hear that the lighting and parks look nicer and it is somewhat apparent in the demo. However, in last years version I felt that there weren't many bloopers and the hits were too hard (even w/some slider tweaks). Is there adiffreence w/ball trajectory this year. What would I see different this year if I DID purchase the game?

        Your input is much appreciated.

I have still been playing this game on default veteran and getting good results...however, I have had two issues: 1) SB are way too easy and 2) too many bunts beat out. Today I tried something and I think it worked out fine...I maxed out the IF throwing slider and the CPU threw me out twice attempting to steal. I'll keep it maxed and see how it plays out...

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion

OK - after doing some experimenting, I'm convinced the issue with lack of extra base hits is due to the outfielders, not the offense.

I think it's a combination of 2 things: (1) The "Normal" OF depth is too deep and (2) the OF's are way too fast. This is allowing the OF's to get to balls down the line or in the gaps.

I also noticed a few things about OF positioning. When I would change the OF depth to "Deep", they would take about 4 steps backwards. From the "Normal" depth, I would then change it to "Shallow" and they would run in about 8-9 steps. So it seems like the "Normal" is too deep.

Also, I noticed that when you change the OF positioning, and then change the IF positioning, the OF positioning resets and vice versa. You can't change one without the other one resetting.

So, I'm not sure where to go from here. OF positioning is not something I can fix and from reading some of the Developer threads, I get the feeling that they don't see this as an issue. I really hope either the patch or Knight/Jim's rosters fix something, because it's getting frustrating to have games with 20 hits and 18 of them are singles.

I'm more than a little distrubed they [Brian I guess] didn't see the lack of doubles/triples an issue... You absolutely correct on why...

Those reasons being one, that outfielders play way too deep, shallow is only a lil' shallower than they should be in normal... Two, the outfielders incredible reactions & range track down every potential double/triple. Even the very worst outfielders [e.g. Adam Dunn] make spectacular plays look routine...

This while allowing too many singles to drop in front of them... These tweaks should be very simple yet it appears they aren't going to make it to any patch.

Sorry man...didn't play '07 so I can't comment on differences. This year's gameplay is top notch and I'm enjoying it.

Here's a question for all you MOM experts: It seems that most people (from these forms ) are using default All star or Veteran sliders for MOM. Or are there any slider tweaks you've been using?

                    Thanks.

The only tweaks I've made are to the Errors. I wasn't seeing very many, so I bumped up the Error sliders. Other than that, I've pretty much been using defaults.

In MOM mode, do you just put the controller in the middle and make changes when you want to?? I have no idea how to do MOM mode.

I'm not sure it matters. BUT, I typically leave it on All-Star.

There are two ways to play MOM mode.

                              1) In the game modes screen there is a mode called either Manager only or Manager mode.

                              2) In the game mode called franchise you can sellect to only manage the team after selecting to play that day's game.

I only have the ps2 which, by the way, is working great again this year with the cpu vs cpu sliders that you had for it last year.

I would like to know what the people are calling an "excessive amount" of singles. The MLB average last year was around 65% of the total hits being singles. Some games you might even see the % of singles to be around and over 80% based on the pitchers and the matchups. I saw the percentage that high in a bunch of box scores from last season. For example, a sinkerball pitcher will probably have a high groundball percentage, which one would tend to believe would cause more singles than extra base hits.
