What's going on? Sportsline is stuck on 1 strike on Nady...

Never mind I see now - 3 runs..... :headdesk:

True, but it's not encouraging to see first inning struggles after the marathon last two games.

52 pitches so far and counting. Now 72 as the 3rd inning ends. This is bad.

Middle of the lineup is putrid tonight. Yet Soto and Theriot are pickin 'em up. Good to see. Lieber has been invaluable early on too.

SWEEP! Great job by Lieber to save the pen, and what a night for Soto!

Damn, Lieber came through big time. Was hoping Soto would get the cycle.

Just a half game out of first. See how quickly things change this early in the season?

The sweep of the Pirates was nice and Soto was a monster last night. Hopefully, the Cubs keep their winning ways going tonight against the Phillies.

                          Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

I made the trip last night to PNC, Rich Hill looked like a little lost boy on the mound, just putrid. I understand players have off nights, but that was rough. I must say PNC was awesome, but it's a shame the attendance is lacking. It was the first time I have ever been to a game where there was under 10k people.

Soto was a man amongst men last night, his blocking ability still has me a little concerned, but he is young, and I am sure they will continue to work on this aspect of the game. On that last double of the night, where he needed a triple to complete the cycle, even the Pirate fans( yes all 3000 of them ) were pushing to try for third.....lol. I was overly impressed with Jason Bay...not by his play on the field, but right before the game he came over to the rightside of the dugout and started signing a bunch of autographs, not only for kids, but for adults also. he carried a conversation on with the all the fans and must have stayed 10 minutes doing so.

We were the only ones in the front row in our section, as the PNC security was down there every inning asking to see tickets for anyone who they did not seat personally( very impressive ) Left in the bottom of the 8th and it took my wife and I a whole 5 minutes to get out and back on the Interstate towards Cleveland.

I was very pleased with the effort last night, as we go to Philly tonight, it will be interesting to see if we can take 2 of 3 there....That will put us at 8-4, and not behind the 8 ball, which we seem to love to be. Lieber looked good and I was suprised to see him still throwing 92-93 consistently and that slider is still as filthy as ever.

i will be trying to keep faith in Hill...

having the R-L-R-L in the rotation is keen. Rarely do you see 2 left-handers in a series, and the Cubs can throw that at you. And they are different lefties size- and style-wise. I hope he pulls it together.

Surely Marshall, Lieber, or Marquis can get it done...one of them is bound to establish themselves. Lieber and Marquis have done so before, and Marshall...will at least get a chance.

Fukudome makes a ton of contact, and that line-drive swing he put on the ball later in the game is awesome...though it was easily caught, Nady had to come in for it a good bit and that is going to be base hit quite often.

I watched the Fuku, DLee, Aram sequence during BP, and that guy was not only hitting ropes, he was smashing them out of the park...granted, it's only 320 down the right field line, but it was very impressive. Aram looked very fluid last night playing third base. We were like 15 feet next to him, and even the Pirate fans said the same thing, how nice and relaxed he looked last night playing third and just flipping bb's over to DLee. He damned near snagged that Matt Morris double down the left field line, and trust me, Matt put some smoke on that ball

With Johnson and Pie, why is Ward getting a start? Is it "throw a dog a bone" day?

He is a pinch-hitter, that's it...he is one hell of a liability in the field. The Cubs are beginning a series on the road against one of the better teams in the league and Ward starts...

If I were managing, I wouldn't want to monkey with the momentum that has developed during the recent win streak. He didn't lose the game by himself, but still...

I also hope Theriot begins to turn it around, and if not, Fontenot takes over. In fact, starting Fontenot at 2nd and DeRosa in RF seems a heck of a lot cooler than Ward.
