I was thinking the same thing the other day. How I would love for the Mets defense of the earlier part of this decade.

I think it's funny...I keep reading in this thread from Mets fans that the team has "no heart" and "doesn't care" when they lose or cough one up, but when they have come back wins like against my Braves the other day or last night against the Giants I don't see those same folks in here posting...interesting

I think its funny how the 1st 30 games of the season, the people who are saying the team is playing with no heart or emotion get ridiculed with people saying "its a long season, etc" but then the Mets win a few games, beat up on the pirates and giants and the same "its a long season people" are so quick to jump in and say see, this team is great, I told you"
whatever, Im glad to see the mets become more aggressive, and lately they have been resilient late in the game so there are a lot of promising signs. they need to keep it up before I buy off on this as a winning team, and I really want to see how they play the dodgers as if they roll through them, it will turn my head.

hey it was a good game...cant win em all...I'll take 3 out of 4 for every series...everytime!

Bottom line, the BEST teams in MLB will lose at LEAST 60 games a year...so I'm not worried...

and

for those who haven't been paying attention...it matters not if the Mets beat the Pirates, Giants, Padres or Nationals...

you got the games to play, and you need to win them...this nonsense about "yeah...you can beat up on good teams...blah, blah, blah..." is a bunch of ****...

the goal is ONLY to win each and EVERY game in front of you. Of course it ain't gonna happen...but that's the idea.

Bet your *** that those SAME ones who subscribe to this lunacy, are the SAME ones who if things take a downturn at the end of the season, will be the first ones in the peanut gallery talking about, "you see...the Mets couldn't beat the teams they needed to beat..."

I will say it once and then I am done in this thread until we play again. Any body can beat any body. So I don't care about that can you beat a good team crap. You are so right on that Rod.

Scott you're right on...

throughout the course of a MLB season, there are so many series that folks think will go one way, and when the final pitch is thrown, they quickly see that nothing is guaranteed in MLB...

to borrow a phrase from the NFL: "...on ANY given day..."

So now the Mets are off to LA....just got to take it one game at a time...

and more importantly (for me)..as LONG as the Mets ARE in first place....I'm just fine....I don't care how early it is in the season....when your team is in first, BE GLAD

for those that want to act like drama queens...try telling your s*** to the Nationals, Cleveland or Oakland fans....

I lied one more thing. That is what is funny about sports Rod. You get all kinds of fans. It is not easy to win in the pros. There are so many good players and teams.

Fielding is still awful, specially on when Santana's on the mound.

Wright's a really weird defender because he makes a ton of great plays but also has a lot of bad throws an other errors. The Mets aren't consistent fielders.

MANY of the fans or so-called Mets fans here...on a daily basis show they know aboslutely nothing....

For the better part of a week, on sports talk, and even more amazingly in at least TWO of the daily newspapers, the trading of Jose Reyes...and to a lesser extent, David Wright...has gone on almost 24/7. And the more some of these folks espouse their so-called opinions, the more asses they make of themselves....

Part of this madness was driven by WFAN's Fatman Francesa...who last October, after the Mets let it all get away from them, got on the radio one October afternoon and talked about how the 'core of the New York Mets' has to be broken up prior to the 2009 season.

Don't get me started. That creep is an admitted Yankees fan. Amazingly, he leads and has been leading a 7 month charge...and many of those proclaiming to be Mets fans are beyond stupid. They pile on, pile on and pile on...wanting to heed Francesa's call to 'replace the core'. It continued this spring--although not as vociforusly. But, it started up AS SOON as Wright went into that slump. When the Mets are hovering under .500, it spiked. When Reyes had those couple of baserunning blunders last week...it went full blast....

The 'core' as Fatboy describes it is: Reyes, Wright and to a lesser extent, Beltran....

Right now, I'm in the preliminary stages of gathering a few New York beat/sports writers this week. And I hope to see some kind of modification put on New York sportstalk radio (WFAN-660 AM). This would be in terms of most hosts fostering the unsubstantiated madness and allowing the station to become the Jerry Springer on sportstalk.

And don't get me started with the hosts taking calls proposing trades...

The hatred and vitriol with some of these yahoos comes right through the speakers. They hate certain Mets players so much, they don't realize how STUPID they sound when they try coming off as intellectual. And these sorry a**** can't even get out of their own way.

One example: some donkey's behind called on Saturday afternoon, proposing trading Reyes to the Cardinals for Yadi Molina and Khalil Greene...oh really? That guy is a ***hole. He backed up his stupidity by saying Reyes is nothing, won't be anything, he's a horrible player, he NEVER slides, he DOESN'T hustle, etc...
I kid you not...

Then, that same ***hole calls up Sunday afternoon talking about he was going to modify his trade. The host, Adam The Bull, told him there was no way he could be a Mets fan. And asked him did he realize what kind of hitter and overall player Greene was. He tried to justify the lunacy, and to his credit, Adam cut that fool off....

I'll never understand it. Typically the Mets have always had trouble with the "weaker" teams, and now that they are beating them as they should, it's no big deal.

Yeah, they also took 3/4 from Philly and 3/5 against Atlanta.

Give me a break. The fair weather fans kill me. Don't come here celebrating when we win something.
