Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread

As cubs fans...what do we think about Tyler Colvin's performance in Colorado?

    .311 avg, 13 HRs, 40+RBIs

Is it just a case of a young player putting it together (rather likely)...or is it another finger pointing at the club's inability to develop it's young players?

I know playing in Colorado can benefit a hitter, but I don't think it is responsible for this rather noteworthy increase in production.

I hated that they got rid of him. I figured he would be a good player but never got his true chance in Chicago.

I think it's great that he's doing well with Colorado. I was a pretty big fan of Colvin, and was sad to see him go. Looking back, it's even worse giving him up now that Stewart is out for awhile with wrist surgery. But, I don't think he can keep that average up that high, he struggled against lefties way too much as a Cub to make me believe he's a .300+ hitter

Clearly didn't help him hit any.

Also, Rizzo was worth the wait. Good lord. Guy definitely got it together from his tenure with the Pads to now.

Hitting to all fields and avoiding the strikeout.

There is a small beam of sunshine cutting through the dark cloud over this team right now. The future is getting brighter.

I think it's safe to say if I buy my Castro and Rizzo jerseys now, I'll be safe for the next 10 years or so. Had to retire my Ramirez one and have been waiting for the next purchase.

Almora, a Scott Boras client, reportedly signed a bonus worth $3.9 million. The pick's recommend slot value was $3.25 million.
The official website is reporting that we've signed Almora, pending a physical. Glad that's over. Not glad that we've spent our entire bonus pool and then some. I think we're around $20,000 away from losing a pick as a penalty.

How would you guys feel about a Brett Jax and Vitters for Justin Upton trade?

I'd be all for that, as long as we'd have him around for more than a couple years. I don't know what his contract situation is out in Arizona, but I do know he's only 24, and an outfield of him, Almora and Soler in the future would be great. I'd be a little worried about losing Vitters though. Hopefully Stewart can come back from this wrist surgery.

Is this a Legit rumor. Because that's just dumb. The only one I've heard is Castro for Upton, because that's the only guy the Dbacks could possibly want from the Cubs.

lol no, it's not a legit rumor. At least I don't think it is. Just seeing if fans are receptive to parting with prospects

i wish i could say i feel the same way...but Rizzo and Castro are not products of the Cubs development system...

and that "bright future" is dependent on that system which has essentially produced....uh...well, there was....no, wait...well, Marmol?

Patience my young padawon, good things will come and the farm system will soon be a source of great talent. Remember 2015 is our year.

I have more than enough faith in our new front office to build up our farm system. It can't happen overnight, but look what they did in Boston. I think we added much needed pitching depth through the draft, and we're gonna get some valuable prospects at the trade deadline too. Give it time, good things will happen.

Dempster to the Braves. Deal includes 22 year old pitcher Randall Delgado.

Edit: Maybe not.. Kevin Goldstien and Keith Law confirmed the deal, along with many others on twitter then Dempster tweets there's no deal. Must have fell through. I'm confused. Lol

Yeah I seen where Dale Sveum said there never was a trade. Who knows, the Cubs might be asking too high a high price for him.
