Well there's already some talk that the Jays might dip into the OF free agency waters because of Cabrera so anything is feasible. Look, you gotta throw in a big chip if you're going to get a front of the rotation starter and Bautista fits the profile. He's a power hitting OFer with a bargain of a contract. You compare that to some of the OFers out there right now in free agency and you'd be pretty stupid to pay mega bucks for someone like Choo when you can get Bautista for cheap providing you can afford to give up one of your top starters or a top flight 2B.

DeRosa retired. So now we need to find another bench player.
Sucks that he retired though as it seemed he was working well with Lawrie in the 2nd half of the year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Why are you so insistent on trading BOTH the Blue Jays power hitters? It's going to be one (most likely Bautista) of the two and not both.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Insistent? This is the first time I've suggested dealing Bautista isn't it?
And I only said I wanted to trade EE(or Lind) if we signed a replacement(specifically Morneau).
Main reason I said that offer for Reds, is cause we'd get Votto(Canadian) to replace EE and Phillips at 2B(which is a spot we obviously need) along with Hanigan as C. Then we can just go looking for OF in free agency(I haven't taken a look at the class, but I'd think it might be easier to fill the OF since most guys are convertible, compared to the IF where not everyone in the IF plays 2B)Comment

Phillips and Hanigan aren't all that valuable, so this is a loss on our part, not that it would ever happen ever."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Some of the free agent starting pitchers are going to become incredibly rich because of the television money pouring into the sport and because just about every team wants starting pitching.
And no team needs an ace more than your Toronto Blue Jays.
I'm not really too keen on trading a position player for an ace. We really don't have a position of strength we can trade from. I don't want to fill hole by trading a piece away that creates another hole. Trading EE or Bautista just creates a vacuum at their position.
Maybe our best hope is that some team overvalues Gose and likes his cheap salary. I'd trade him away for starting pitching in a heart beat. Maybe he'll be great. But I see a lot of Sil Campusano in him.Comment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Information not surprising, but now there's numbers to back it up:
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2013-...ist-team-data/
Jays with about 26 DL stints during the season and over 1400 days of their players being on the DL in 2013.
And are top 5 in most days spent on the DL per season since 2010(3 of the 5 teams on that list are from AL East).Comment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Blue Jays back on CBC?!? Won't happen alot, but sounds like it could still happen. I loved watching Blue Jays baseball on CBC.
Whatever they do, DON'T air Jays games on Sportsnet 360. That's the worst channel to air stuff all because of that stupid 24/7 ticker that takes up 10% of a screen and forces the shows to not fully be 16:9 pictureComment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
I'm pretty sure they'll just have Buck and Pat calling the games even if it's on CBC. The last time CBC had the Jays it was horrid. A completely rusty Jim Hughson who didn't seem to know the players and was just generally out of it paired up with Jesse Barfield who was just plain bad. At least Rance Muliniks was okay but paired with those two he was like Orel Hershiser on the mic.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
I'm sure there's a number of names on the list below people prob disagree with....
Players I'd slightly favourite:
Erik Bedard(already use to pitching in the AL East, and he's Canadian)
Matt Garza(did great all those years in Tampa, and still doing good after leaving, his price is gonna be high though)
Jeff Karstens(good numbers past 2 seasons, and while he's a NL pitcher,he posted better numbers against AL in his career than against NL)
Paul Maholm(good numbers in past few years, but the problem again...NL guy who hasn't been that great vs AL)
Shaun Marcum(if he's not mad at the Jays for trading him, then why not bring him back?)
Ervin Santana(rebounded in 2013 after horrible 2012)
Could be good fits:
Scott Feldman(ERA obviously went up when traded into the AL East, but still not bad)
Ubaldo Jimenez(If last season wasn't a fluke,then he'd be great signing)
Jeff Francis(Canadian pitcher who we could probably get for cheap due to inflated numbers cause of playing with Rockies)
Scott Kazmir(another guy who is use to AL East, but he's a diff pitcher now, though his comeback year did look good)
Clayton Richard(had horrible 2013,but before that he's had good numbers, even against AL)
Worth checking out:
Scott Baker(maybe an invite to spring training or something to see if he can still pitch)
Jeff Niemann(hasn't pitched since 2012,but another guy worth having ST invite)
Johan Santana(if healthy,he'd be great to get,but if not, then obviously no point in having him)
All we really need is like 2-3 SP, so there's 11 or so guys on the first 2 sections I'm hoping Jays at least consider. Maybe we'd actually be able to sign one of the international SP too and then just sign 1-2 other SP in free agencyComment
