    Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays

So I did a little bit of Blue Jays news trawling and it seems KC Royals hitting coach Kevin Seitzer (he was a pretty good hitter back in the day) is "close to taking" the Jays' hitting coach job. This isn't surprising as he and Gibbons have a working relationship as they were both in KC at the same time. Seitzer also happened to work magic on Melky when he was in KC as well.

This is pretty much a make it or break it year for everyone involved in management and the the coaching staff. It'll be interesting to see what AA does this offseason.

And I did slightly more news trawling

@Royals_Report: Not so fast on Kevin Seitzer to Toronto as hitting coach. Hear the White Sox are also showing interest.

        Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays

Something I read on sportsnets comments section that I wonder if it actually is true....Supposedly Kawasaki was showing the Jays players some stretches and the guys were talking about it being some new thing they've never seen before.....

The problem supposedly was that what Kawasaki was showing them,is supposedly a standard type of stretch that most other teams do regularly.

There is some problem in Toronto(specifically the Jays, but seems like Leafs might also be impacted too) regarding injuries, and it can't just be coincidence. Trainers or something need to be replaced because whatever the current guys are doing in Toronto, it isn't good.

You'd think that a team with 100M+ in salaries, would spend money on trainers to keep the team healthy. What good is a 120M+ team if half of them are injured.

Interesting, wonder who'll be the fallback guy if they lose out on Seitzer.

Better than him being GM like some guys jokingly say to him. I remember one episode of Blue Jays Central where I believe Sam Cosentino SERIOUSLY said Zaun should be a GM somewhere.

So according to Boob Elliott (I misspelled his first name on purpose) is reporting the Jays are interested in acquiring Chris Ianetta or that Conger kid. Sounds like we could see a deal where one of the Angels' catchers and Howie Kendrick comes to Toronto.

                    Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays

Iannetta....really? .230AVG in the AL,career high in games played was only 114, and throws out only 24% of basestealers. Sure, that's sadly an upgrade over what we have, but still not great.

Conger might be ok to get, but hasn't really proven himself minus the 2013 season in the MLB.

Kendrick though would be great to get.

Hopefully we can get the offensive stuff out of the way as soon as possible,so that we can focus big time in starting pitching for rest of offseason.

Oh man let's not quote batting average.

Iannetta or Conger would probably be about 1-2 win catchers which could be a 2-4 win improvement over Arencibia. I like it but the one I really, really want is Wilson Ramos. He'd probably be a 6 win swing or so.

How might Phillips do in AL ballparks though? Cause in his career, he hasn't been that great in them. I'm including the Houston Astros as AL ballpark even though they were NL team when he faced them.

In his career(over 800 at bats) he's hitting .240 in AL ballparks. So would trading for him result in same problems we had with a number of the NL guys we brought in last year who struggled alot against the AL players.

I saw that report, too. Neither one really excites me. I'd prefer a veteran starting catcher and keeping J.P as the backup given his cheap salary.

You just know if the Jays dump J.P. he's going to rebound.

Thole has better backup catcher skills (ie he can catch a baseball) than JP and will be less expensive, JP would be better to non tender or demote.

I'm fairly confident he won't break out.

I feel the same way, JP seems like he's got a very thin skin so when there's anything remotely resembling pressure on him he'll fall flat on his ***.

I say let him go fend for himself elsewhere.

Send him to the Yankees for cash considerations and let him fend off the media there.
