Meh, you should see the draft this year. Guys like Jacob Gatewood, Derek Hill, Alex Jackson (ZOMG CATCHER), and Touki Toussaint (henceforth known as scrabble) are just scratching the surface of this draft, not to mention a good 'ol Canadian boy in Gareth Morgan.

      Jays all time under Gibbons:
      362-378
      4.31 runs allowed per game
      4.67 runs scored per game

For comparison...the current AL average for runs scored per game is 4.34 and average for runs allowed is 3.98.

Don't know what it is about Gibbons, but when coaching, pitching just sucks. Same with the AA team he coached last year. They sucked at pitching, then they fired him,and now the team lets up 1 less run per game!

You do realize this is more of an indication of the talent at his disposal, right? Causation =/= correlation. Not to mention, they scored more runs than they allowed. They had a positive run differential and were 16 games under .500. They played under their pytho and got unlucky.

Sparky Anderson said the most impact a manager can make is 3 games, didn't he?

Mark Buehrle has been one of the top starting pitchers in the entire league in his last 5 or so starts IMO.

Thank goodness for his yeoman like work.

Buehrle has been a bright spot. Total iron man, and he's really turned it around. One of my favorite pitchers, although I won't be sad if we trade him. He's been very good though and may get even better in the last month.

By the sounds of it...Gibbons will be the first non World Series winning Jays coach in the past 30 years to KEEP his job despite having a win% below .480 in a season....

First thing AA's done that I've supported in a while.

Michael Grange: "He's had one month where he can roll out starters that get deep into games, and that was the month of June, and they were 19-7. Their ERA was 2.94. It was the best ERA in the American League."

So the health and quality of our rotation correlates more directly to the success of the team than our manager? Wowzers!

Gibby may be back next year but I have a feeling half the coaching staff will be gone.

Good move on AA's part as there was a stretch when the team was fully healthy and they were one of the best teams in the AL.

I take AA's comments with a grain of salt. You remember when he said in spring training Romero was definitely going to be their fifth starter and reversed course before the start of the season?

How often has a vote of confidence been followed by a firing in sports?

I guess it says a lot that I don't trust the words coming out of AA's mouth anymore.

Yeah, that's fair. AA's always been big on treating the people in our org right though, so idk. Plus, firing Gibbons and trading Boni would expose an incredible lack of judgement (mainly on Boni and not in Gibby, but pretending that Gibby was the wrong choice for a sec, it would).

If Gibbons is gonna stay, at least get rid of others. New pitching coach(even if Walker isn't the problem, a horrible starting rotation for past 3-4 years....We need to find the right guy for the pitching coach job), new training staff(past 3-4 years have been most injury filled years in franchise history) among other stuff.

I wonder if the injuries the past two years will convince them to speed up the process of putting grass in Skydome. I don't understand why the lack of grass is tied to the Argos as some have suggested. (I think the Argos would love to play on grass especially after Ray's injury on Friday).

Beeston has suggested in the past free agents don't like the idea of playing on turf. It's an interesting point. I don't know how many injuries are attributable to the turf but you have to wonder after Bautista's latest injury.

The weird thing is when this team played on the horrible Exhibition Stadium turf/concrete the players never got injured like the past two seasons.

Just keep Gibby, Hale and Motolla. Idc about Rivera or Walker or Murphy. Put Hentgen in as the pitching coach, that would be nice. And ANYONE but Rivera at 3B.

Nothing will speed up the process. Doesn't sound like they will for next couple of years, which really sucks. I wish players like Bautista,Reyes,EE went to front office and suggested that they put in grass ASAP. If Jays don't even listen to their best players on this idea, they won't listen to anyone.

You realize that it's not a matter of the Jays wanting it or not, but that it's a business issue, right? The Argos have to pack their bags and they have to figure out how concerts and events would work with grass. It's not that they don't want it.
