I said before this and next season, I was going to treat as the transition phase before the big offseason but man, this team exceeded my expectations and then some.

We came a game away from being the AL representative in the World Series...and this wasn't even the brightest timeline. Hard to believe how different our team could have looked: if Gleyber doesn't go down for the year, do we make a trade that gets us the Toddfather? If Pineda doesn't go down do we end up with Sonny Gray?

Either way, that's what we got. Houdini is back for another year, hard to see him putting another uniform on for the rest of his career. 3 more years of arbitration Kahnle, 2 more years of arbitration for Sonny Gray. Can't believe how well this team ended up being set up for the future.

Big offseason moves: figure out if Girardi stays or goes. I'm indifferent. If Cashman makes the move I trust it'll be in the best interest of the team, if Hal jumps in as a knee-jerk demanding change I'll be less confident. Tanaka's opt out, is he gonna take it? Hard to say, he had a bad year, but is there doubt he could get more than 3/66 if he opts out? I doubt it. Then CC, if he wants to come back, depending on the price. I wouldn't fault him at all for taking a better offer if he gets one, but I could see, a veteran, a dude who's made a ton of money, choosing convenience and giving the discount. You know he loves it here.

Then the wild card, SHOHEI. What is going on with this dude? Is he coming, can we get him? Should be a fun offseason, I always look forward to seeing what moves are made but especially this year. Seems like the team has a ton of options and is built for success. 2015 Cubs got swept in the NLCS the year before they won, can we mirror that success? Here's hoping.
If it's possible I'd like to sign C.C and Frazier to team friendly one year deals. I think the Yankees should absolutely bring Tanaka back if it's reasonable . Wouldn't overpay for him. But definitely wouldn't let him walk either.

Holliday, Pineda, and Garcia should be gone.

Need a BUC that isn't worthless like Romine. Maybe Wieters?

Get Betances back on track. I'd be in favor of trading him for prospects. But I think his value is probably at an all time low.

Otani. ... I'm all in. Gotta go after him. He won't be that costly in the long run. Could be a once in a generation talent. Seeing him pitch and hit would be pretty awesome.

Lastly keep trusting in the youth infusion. Really interested in seeing what Clint Frazier is capable of. He could be a star. Liked alot of what I saw from him. Torres, Andujar, German, Sheffield. They are coming.

This team will be down right terrifying if they add Otani a healthy Torres. Clint.....
I definitely believe there is a dynasty looming with this group. Just don't deviate from the plan.

Wanted to add... Yankees have to release Ellsbury, there's too much talent on this team now. He's blocking a roster spot. He's basically worthless.

The organization needs to face the facts. It was a terrible contract, Eat it and be done with it. There's really no reason he should ever play another game in a Yankees uniform again.

I highly doubt that will happen, too much money left. I love spending other people's money in these situations as much if not more than the next guy, but I'm not gonna expect them to pay dude 66 mil to go away.

Bye Girardi. It was real. Thanks for 09 and getting the kids ready. We'll see whos next.

Yea I sincerely doubt it will happen too with Ellsbury. It's probably time to let Joe go. He's never been my favorite, but he had some good qualities.

I think the whole organization is trying to establish a new identity now. Between the garbage between him and Gary and then his unforgivable blunder in the Cleveland series. Things started to turn against him.

Hopefully we find a really good replacement. Not entirely sure who I'd want to take over the reins. Nobody really jumps out to me.

Won't happen but I really like David Cone. He knows alot about the game and I feel like he's pretty brilliant and alert on game situations. Will be interesting.

Re: **The Official New York Yankees Thread**

Other than the Yankees, all of my teams have fired a manager I liked in the past five years and replaced them with someone I don't, minus the Knicks who only hire people I don't like from the beginning. Not looking forward to the hunt, but I hope Cashman can find a gem.

Story to watch for: Girardi going to the Nats, them getting over the hump, and Bryce staying there.

I too see Girardi in Washington. Perfect fit.

                    From Jack Curry:

On Girardi's replacement: He'll be someone Cashman's worked with. He'll be heavily influenced by front office. He won't make $4M a year.
I'm sure Yankees have list of potential replacements. Rob Thomson deserves long look. Knows organization as well as anyone. Highly respected
There's no favorite to replace Girardi yet, although I think Rob Thomson, the bench coach and a man who has been in the organization for 28 seasons, deserves a long look. As Cashman searches for the next manager, his criteria will include: A person who he already has had a working relationship with. A person who is receptive, very receptive, to analytics so there is cohesion between the front office and on-the-field personnel. A person who has the respect of the players. And, by the way, the next manager won't make $4 million a year, as Girardi did. Again, as organizations have become more analytically-driven, some have shied away from paying the manager a hefty salary.
Cash gonna be pulling puppet strings from the box.

Sounds from everything I've read as if Cashman has gotten a little full of himself/big for his britches.

I am fine with the decision, 10 years was a good run time to change it up.

Yep. This is the front office wanting to call the shots and not have a manager hit someone 8th that should be batting leadoff or a guy sitting that should be playing.

There is an influx of young guys coming and Cashman brought them here. He wants to make sure they are used exactly as he sees fit.

I can't find a single team under Girardi that underachieved and most overachieved. The last few years prior to this one we had an old, overpaid roster and he kept us competitive. This year we had a young team that people thought at best could sneak into the playoffs if everything went right and we made it convincingly and were a game from the world series.

I'm in the camp that who the manager is doesn't make that huge a deal so I'm not freaking out about this, but I can't even see an argument to be made that he should be let go.
