    Actually from what I can tell you must fill out all those caps you intially see to reach 85.

          The two builds i mentioned previously. 1st is the Driving&Finishing/Defender, 2nd is a Center Pure Defender

            I am using these as example for clarying my question above about the number of available upgrades.


            Let's say, for instance, that pure defender has a total of 150 yellow slots/caps and other 50 white slots/caps to fill in.


            How many upgrades (through VC) do I have for the yellow caps before reaching 85 overall?


            Once I reach 85 ovr, how many upgrades (through "rep") do I have for the remaining yellow caps and for the white caps?

              Fellow Lockdowns just noticed this using those charts ...

              Don't know the exact numbers but using that chart 2k actually lowered the offense of a pure LDD even more compared to 2K17. I compared the cap scale of a defense -defense and defense -shot creator to the LDD 2K17 and the defense -shot creator was almost an exact match of a LDD from 2K17.

              Which is roughly mid 60s to low 70s in midrange , layups , dunks, rebounding , and playmaking .

              Of course we haven't seen the exact numbers but on the same scale the shot creator - defense has mid 70s to low 80s in offense while still maintaining 70-80 stats in defense and quickness. What the hell .

                The tradeoff for Pure Defenders is that while they aren't as good offensively as 2K17 this year HOF badges will be much rarer with dual archetypes and HOF Defensive Stopper completely negates Gold level badges.

                  Here's the quick version lol : it seems more reasonable no efficient to go shot creator -defense than defense -shot creator .

                    I'd say that Pure Defender only really makes sense for bigs with their reasonably high rebounding&dunking.

                      I agree with both things you said . I was expecting slightly higher offense caps for the defense - shot creator build though. I don't even know if that build will be worth it now with Scoring caps in the high 60s (speculated) lol . But I do want defense first .

                        Can we be sure? Because HOF Defensive Stopper didn't fully negate Gold Badges in 2k17, and would only drop other HOF badges to silver.

                          How many here going pure? I'm thinking of going pure rim protector knowing full well how 2k treats rim protectors. I keep telling myself that this is the year but then ending up disappointed. Sigh...we'll see again this year....

                            I think pure is great for a center. No way I would do it for a guard or small foward . But I think a protector / rebounder is even better . Also check out Protector / finisher.

                              Just looking through the spreadsheet posted earlier in the thread, if you make a sharpshooter/defending... you've got a player maxing out at around 90 in 3s, but only 75ish in speed. I think that'll make it tougher to defend.

                                I'm reasoning about a pure SF point forward but it's a difficult choice when 2k tells you nothing about the concrete differences (i.e. effects on attributes) between HOF and gold badges.


                                It's very annoying that we have to hope for some clarifications from the users (as 2kLab did last year), not from the producers.
