Re: Playmakers All-Star/Press Box Cam/Team Specific Plays

Man I"m trying to watch the Cowboys game and tweak sliders during every commercial break...

But here's what I'm seeing and it appears to be very good.

    I raised CPU's

On Ball Physical Defense to 50 and Fakeout Discipline to 75.

Then I set all the defensive pressures back to AUTO Switch. The CPU seems to adjust on their own much better as to which guy to apply high or low pressure on throughout the game. I'm thinking this way might be best overall simply because it allows the AI defense to decide which guy's need to be contained. The CPU's low post defense also picks up a bit with this approach because you can't simply just back them down at will in the post or you'll get called for a charge.

So, I'm going to play one more game using these changes and see if it feels better this way.

Yeah that game pissed me off....

I'm going to knock out all the remaining teams this evening. I'll keep posting updates throughout the day.

I changed the Sliders on the Front Page so everyone proof read the sliders again. I had to increase the ON Ball PHYSICAL DEFENSE and FAKEOUT DISCIPLINE for the CPU. I also decided to switch the DEFENSIVE Pressure to AUTO SWITCH for all players because it allows teams to play defense different from each other. Meaning Detroit will apply High Pressure more then Dallas players will.

But we'll still have to change the CPUs' 4 Defensive Quick plays, right?

Yes, we just won't have to set their DEFENSIVE Pressure each game which is one less thing to do.....

Sorry, but i am confused. I thought i will need to change to Auto Switch every game? Is there a way to do this once?

And i am still wondering how you stop penetration by the CPU guards. I had Vince Carter double teamed and he still drove past both guys and dunked. very unrealistic because it happened about 10 times.

You only have to set the DEFENSIVE PLAYBOOKS and OFFENSIVE PLAYBOOKS for the CPU's team. Leave the DEFENSIVE PRESSURE at AUTO SWITCH on all players now. Basically, what your doing is assigning the DEFENSIVE Plays and the CPU will decide on their own how to apply pressure on your players.

For instance they might leave a guy open for a jumper because he's not that good or they might apply HIGH PRESSURE to a guy like Nowitzki because he can shoot from everywhere. AUTO SWITCH lets the CPU AI decide those factors and they are pretty good and making adjustment's.

As for the Human player. If you are having trouble stopping a guy just play off of him some or if you have a top defensive stopper on the perimeter assign him to that teams outside scorer. Defensive Stoppers are pretty good because Bruce Bowen and Ron Artest really makes plays. But Super Star players are going to get their points unless they are having an off game.

As for New Jersey I haven't even didi their Playbook yet so maybe after you play them with my settings for their playbook it will be better. I'll have Vince Carter becoming more of an outside shooter so that might help to cut down on his agressive drives to the basket.

Seattle and Golden St are complete.

I forgot to mention aswell for guy's who have trouble stopping guy's who like to penatrate keep in mind you can assign Zone defenses just for this purpose.

1-3-1 Zones-Are designed for teams with dominat post players and teams that try to penatrate down the middle of the court.

3-2 Zones-Protecst against penetration but gives up more outside shots.

I will eventually have a seperate post breaking down all defenses and they will work to contain the CPU. You will actually see the CPU run these schemes vs the Human player aswell.

PM, I haven't tried your updated sliders yet, but does 10 min quarters give realistic results for you (scores, stats?) Why not 9 mins? I want to know before I try them. Thanks.

Game Speed at 45 can get you 10 Minute QTR's and the pace is pretty good.

Game Speed at 50 probably gets you around 8-9 Minute QTR's. If you can control the pace of a game by playing good defense and not take quick shots you could possibly squeez in 10 Minutes.

The Playbooks actually help a great deal because it allows the game to slow down aswell since the CPU will focus on moviing the ball and setting up an offense. In fact I"ve seen the CPU on a few occasions get a 3 second lane violation called on them and that never happened in years past with Live.....

                        GAMEPLAY SETUP

Assign High Pressure Defense to all C's and PF's during Gameplay. You do not have to adjust anything for SF's, SG's and PG's. Leave them all at DEFAULT.

To setup the CPU's Playbook you have to take your controller before the start of the game and go to all the Playbook settings and assign them just like I have them setup. Make sure you hit START after you put in the settings for Offensive and Defensive QUICK Plays and Team Stratgey or else it will not save if you hit TRIANGLE to back out. Put the plays in the order in which I have them listed. Most teams will come with a ZONE DEFENSE and a PRESS DEFENSE to add different looks throughout the game when you face them. Some Teams are more aggressive defensively than others so you won't get the same type of pressure from game to game.

I played the Spurs last night. Team strategy was on default. Here is what I saw Duncan was very involved. In fact they ran a baseline screen for him alot. Then I played with the team strategy set and he got involved but not as much. So here is my theory, now this might not be true for all teams. I think ea did a good job in having the teams run their plays on default. I just think that people are confused because they named the play shooter a. I think if they would have named it sec break or maybe fast break offense it would clear it up. If you leave it on default the teams look to push the ball more and take advantage of our mistakes as users. I saw some great plays for Duncan and Manu and even 1 or 2 for Bowen. I am not taking anything away from your work. I just think that maybe since we have been shafted in the past and you had to put in hard work. You think you have to do the same with this years game. But as I stated the teams do run plays designed around their star players on default, so maybe this year you might not of had to put in so much hard work. Just my theory. Also if players are finding that the pg looks to score to much. Guard him, take away the drive. In the nba if you don't stop the pg from penetrating he will take advantage of it.

Hey Playmakers (or others using the sliders), are these sliders playable without making all the pregame adjustments? I like to just pop the game in and play a good game of basketball (not the default, non-adjusted jam fests), but don't like the idea of changing both teams' settings and strategy. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Shooter A is a play designed for SG to take a 3-pt shot off a baseline screen. Ever team is setup that way at DEFAULT LEVEL.

Go to a practice and then setup every teams OFFENSIVE QUICK PLAY to SHHOTER A and you'll see the SG take all the shots. EA for some reason belive that the SG's are more like the top scorer's so they just assigned Shooter A as DEFAULT Base PLay because most teams have stud SG's like Kobe, Wade, Ginoboli, Allen and Redd. EA assigned that play for those guy's to come off screens and when yoy first see the game play out the right out the box what did you see?

The SG coming off a screen so that people would notice right away that screen plays work. It was a way to market the product and get guy's excited. You could probably use the DEFAULT settings and get production aswell but I wanted to expand the Playbooks so that you see more movement and teams don't take the first shot available. I also wanted to see designed plays for guy's like LeBron and Maggette working inside, Nowitzki oustide as opposed to inside, Kiralenko not shooting three's simply because he's a SF but him slashing more to the rack to get his points.

EA's DEFENSIVE playbooks don't have teams switching up as much overall. You see the same looks every game at DEFAULT settings. I learned all this from practice games and watching the CPU. But hey I love Live and I'm sure that DEFAULT is pretty good but I like added realism and EA won't do the extra work themselves. They will give you assigned plays and then say now go find the right setups for your self.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.
I play on PC and its unfortunate but you have to enter the CPU teams strategy before each game. Slider settings can be saved at least. Its only a couple of minutes of work and its well worth the time as I noticed much better gameplay with the playbooks set up.

To all the programmers out there, is there something in .dbf (dont even know what that is really) that we can adjust so these playbooks stay permanent?

Also, to Playmakers, excellent job my friend. While I tried 'selling' the game to some friends out of the box, it wasnt till i showed them Live with your sliders did I convince them all to pick up a copy of this game.
