I use a deck of cards to determine who I make offers to. They are numbered 1-13, use aces as ones and so forth. It appears that the top free agents are usually on top. I select positions (both drafting and free agency) based on who gets released or retires. If I draw an ace, most likely it's going to be the best free agent at that position, if it's a jack, queen, or king, it will most likely be down the free agent pool, and so forth. So, it makes it fair for both me and the AI and I'm not stacking my team. I hate that, I like the game to be challenging, yet rewarding if the cards fall in place.

Well boys. The real season is underway. I'm pretty excited about the real Orioles this year, it looks like we are heading in the right direction. Good to see a team with heart and do the little things right. We may only win 70 games or so, but they will be an exciting team to watch, that's for sure. GO O'S!!!!!

I haven't been commenting, but have been following this dynasty for a while now. I've said it before and I'm going to say it again... I love your house rules! Professional sports games are way too easy to get good at if you just continue to sign the top free agents. When I played a game like Madden, I would never sign a FA unless I needed to due to injury. Much respect for the way you play!

Orioles looking good so far. You may have just gotten a Jeffrey Maier payback play to open up the game to 8-5 in the 8th. That should probably do it unless the Yanks can string together a few hits in the 9th.

            *EDIT*

Bases loaded, 2 outs, bottom 8th and Aubrey Huff hits a double into the gap, scoring two. Make it 10-5 O's and this one is all but locked up.

Thanks man, I try to come up with house rules for all sports games, just because of the things you mentioned. Some think it's silly, but it works for my liking. Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I don't feel a bit bad about that play, it's 12 years in the making, though it probably doesn't mean as much, but we'll take it.

                  September 1st, 2008

Brandon McCarthy Can't Hold Lead, Suffers Loss!!!!!

Angels erase deficit with late rally against a tired Brandon McCarthy.

In a suspense-filled afternoon game, The Angels beat the visiting Rangers 8-7 in front of 40,042 fans at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Chone Figgins delivered 4 RBI's and 4 hits to pace the offense. Coming into a tie game, Sean O'Sullivan hung around long enough to get the win, throwing 3.2 innings while allowing no runs and 1 hit in relief of John Lackey.

The Angels embark on a 6-game road swing tomorrow night against the Tigers, with Jered Weaver (7-5, 3.23) and Joel Zumaya (3-2, 4.15) scheduled to work the series opener.

Sticking with this man. I just don't have the time to invest in becoming comfortable with sliders and stuff anymore. I want to play multiple seasons, and as you can see, it takes me over a year to play just one. Hope you'll continue to follow.

Wow, I'd say the Red Sox and Yankees have the Wild Card locked up....

Also, I'm pumped to see how the offseason goes. For some reason, the offseason is almost more fun to me than the actual playing of the game. I've never gotten the chance to actually experience an offseason in a baseball game, so it will be interesting to see how the draft goes.

I only add a star player in basegames if I could see it happening in real-life.

...and because baseball seasons are so long that I wanna really feel like I have a chance at the World Series, if things work out.
