2038 NCAA TOURNAMENT RESULTS - FINAL FOUR

      SEMIFINALS SCORES
      E#7 Maryland 66, W#8 South Carolina 65
      MW#12 Marquette 64, S#6 Tennessee 63

      CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SCORE
      MW#12 Marquette 57, E#7 Maryland 55

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR 2038 NATIONAL CHAMPION MARQUETTE GOLDEN EAGLES (23-15)!!!

Side note: Definitely the most improbable NCAA Tournament run I've seen in this game. The whole tournament was wild with no top five seeds in the Final Four at all. I don't even know how Marquette made the tournament with a 17-15 record coming into it (high SOS, I guess), and to see them win it is wild. I hope this helps out the Big East going forward.

Haha, yup. A crazy tournament in general. So many high seeds in there late! One of the more bizarre I’ve seen in this game, especially the winner. I’m not sure I’ve seen a double digit seed win it all before.

Haha! It’s all good! They just shot the ball so well, unfortunately, and we didn’t hit as many threes as we usually do. South Carolina was one of those deceptive schools in this game, too, where they had a so-so record, but a really high overall rating.

                  2038 Recruiting Class

Two of the top three players in this year's class signed with West Virginia. Joey Salazar and Damian Wysocki headline the class, ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the nation, respectively. Bradley Dearmon was a late addition when a scholarship came open with the early departures of Johnny Riggs, Carson Lavender, and Morris Filipovic, and he comes as a JUCO add.

Joey Salazar headlines the class and hails from Eden Prarie, MN. The 5'11", 178 lbs. point guard is ranked not only as the top point guard in the land, but also the top overall recruit. Salazar is extremely athletic with nimble feet and is adept at getting to the basket. His shot was a bit raw in high school, but with his athleticism if he can develop a consistent deep threat he could be unstoppable.

Damian Wysocki is the the second-ranked point guard in this year's class, behind only Joey Salazar. He's also the No. 3 overall recruit, and hails from San Antonio, TX. Wysocki has a bit of size on Salazar at 6'1" and 179 lbs. Compared to Salazar, Wysocki doesn't have quit the same freakish athleticism, but he has a more refined shot.

Bradley Dearmon was a late add to this year's class after some of the early departures early this offseason. Dearmon is a JUCO Freshman power forward and hails from San Diego, CA. Standing at 6'8" and 203 lbs., he may be thrust into action right away with the Mountaineers' thin frontcourt. He showed himself to have a good low post game in high school, which is something that is invaluable in West Virginia head coach James Frizzell's offensive system. He lacks a bit in size at just 203 lbs., so he'll need to bulk up some before the upcoming collegiate season, if possible.

This year's class is the third-ranked recruiting class in the nation.

                  Signed Recruits:
                  1. Joey Salazar 5'11 178 (Eden Prairie, MN - #1 overall, #1 PG) 5* All-American, Mr. Basketball
                  2. Damian Wysocki 6'1 179 (San Antonio, TX - #3 overall, #2 PG) 5* All-American, Mr. Basketball
                  3. Bradley Dearmon 6'8 203 (San Diego Car - NR overall, NR PG) 3* JUCO FR

Tough exit for the squad but a good year nonetheless.

Curious to see how the top-ranked point guards mesh with Carroto in the backcourt next season.

Yeah, it'll be interesting. Salazar unfortunately doesn't look to be as good of a shooter as I expected, so I'm not sure he's going to pan out as well as I was hoping for. I have a hard time making use of point guards who can't at least shoot corner threes well. But we'll see what happens. Regardless, Carroto will no doubt be the starter and get the vast majority of the minutes at point guard next season.

Plummer isn't all that bad for a walk-on.

Looks like you could play some small-ball lineups given the size and overall ratings of your wings as well.

Yeah, he has amazing size and after several years on the bench he’s actually developed into a solid player. He will definitely be in the rotation this year. Definitely wouldn’t have expected that several years ago when he walked on! Cool storyline, though!

The second-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers opened the 2038-2039 season with a dominant 82-56 victory over the Virginia Commonwealth Rams tonight in Morgantown.

West Virginia took control of the game from the start, leading 41-29 at halftime and maintaining their double-digit lead throughout the second half. Joshua Wilkerson led the Mountaineers with 19 points on an impressive 8-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Stefon Hull contributed 14 points, while Tremmell Amerson posted a double-double with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. All five starters for the Mountaineers scored in double figures.

Virginia Commonwealth struggled offensively, shooting just 19-of-63 (30%) from the field and 4-of-22 (18%) from three-point range. Darris Tsagarakis led the Rams with 13 points, but he made only 4-of-13 field goal attempts. Dominick Crisp provided a spark off the bench, scoring 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

The Mountaineers' balanced attack and stingy defense proved to be too much for the Rams, who fall to 0-1 on the season. West Virginia will look to move to 2-0 next Thursday evening when they host Iowa.
