Not going to lie I am hoping to see UTEP relive their Glory Road years and win the Chip, also if you don't win the West, I am pulling for Washington State. Who am i kidding I am probably still pulling for WSU. However a West Virginia vs NC State National Title game could be cool too.

        NCAA Tournament - First Round

The West Virginia Mountaineers (30-6) managed to hold off a spirited challenge from the Florida A&M Rattlers (22-14), securing a 89-82 win to advance to the second round of this year's NCAA Tournament.

West Virginia's Stefon Hull led the scoring with an impressive 29 points, going 11-20 on field goals and 7-15 from beyond the arc. Belton Mombollet and Carson Lavender contributed 14 points each, with Mombollet grabbing 10 rebounds, and Lavender tallying 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.

For the Rattlers, Darrel Erickson was the top scorer with 19 points, shooting 7-16 from the field and 5-10 from the three-point line. Collis Becker added 14 points and 10 assists, while Lenny Shepard chipped in with 12 points.

The Mountaineers led 48-44 at halftime and managed to maintain their advantage in the second half, but the Rattlers kept it uncomfortably close throughout.

Despite the loss, Florida A&M had a strong performance, with 30 assists and 34 rebounds, only losing the rebounding battle to the larger Mountaineers by 1. However, their 11 turnovers and poor free throw shooting proved costly in the close loss.

West Virginia advances to the next round, where they will face Virginia Commonwealth. The Rams blew out No. 7-seeded Loyola (IL) 91-66 to advance to face West Virginia.

            NCAA Tournament - Second Round

The No. 2-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers outlasted the No. 10-seeded Virginia Commonwealth Rams 83-73 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

West Virginia (31-6) held a narrow 39-33 lead at halftime but managed to extend the gap in the second half, outscoring Virginia Commonwealth 44-40. The Mountaineers shot an impressive 61% (34-for-56) from the field, including 43% (6-for-14) from beyond the arc. The Rams (25-6) finished the game shooting 49% (30-for-61) overall, but they struggled from beyond the arc, where they shot just 29% (5-for-17) from three-point range. They also struggled from the free throw line, where they made only 8 of 14 attempts (57%).

Joshua Wilkerson led the Mountaineers with a game-high 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including 2-for-5 from three-point land, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Stefon Hull contributed 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Belton Mombollet added 15 points, four rebounds, and two assists. West Virginia also received a strong performance from Carson Lavender, who tallied 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks.

Virginia Commonwealth had a balanced offensive attack, with four of their five starters finishing in double figures. R.J. Kahrimanovic led the way with 23 points and 9-for-18 shooting. Reggie Todd just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and 9 assists.

VCU outrebounded West Virginia 27-23 and held a 7-2 advantage on the offensive glass.

With this win, West Virginia advances to the Sweet Sixteen, while Virginia Commonwealth's season comes to an end. The Mountaineers will now look to continue their postseason success as they move on to the West Regional Semifinal in Phoenix, where they will face off against No. 3-seeded California, who defeated 11th-seeded Illinois 64-62 in their second round game to advance.

Wow, so many upsets in Round 2. could we see a West Virginia vs Virginia Final 4 and maybe that WVU vs NC State Championship, now that the other #1 seeds have been decimated.

Could be! I agree, it’s been a wild tournament so far! Hopefully, we don’t end up being one of the upsets. WVU vs UVA would be a fun regional matchup!

The West Virginia Mountaineers (32-6) defeated the California Golden Bears (25-9) tonight 96-79 to advance to the West Regional Final two nights from now.

The Mountaineers started strong, leading 50-39 at halftime and maintained their momentum throughout the second half. West Virginia's offense was led by Morris Filipovic, who scored 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including an impressive 6-for-10 from beyond the arc. It was a career-best performance for Filipovic, who usually isn't as much of a factor scoring the basketball, particularly from beyond the arc. Carson Lavender contributed with a double-double, notching 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

California's Deilvez Beeler put up a fight, scoring 23 points on 9-for-17 shooting, while Anis Warsaw added 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 2 three-pointers. Dramane Burnstein had a solid performance with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jacon McCrommon came up one assist short of a double-double, tallying 9 points and 11 assists.

The Mountaineers' bench made a significant impact, with Oscar Carroto and Barry Henning both contributing 16 and 13 points, respectively. In total, West Virginia shot 37-for-72 (51%) from the field and an impressive 19-for-40 (48%) from three-point range.

The Mountaineers will face the South Carolina Gamecocks in the West Regional Final on Saturday. The upstart Gamecocks, a No. 8 seed, advanced off a 69-59 win against No. 12-seeded Youngstown State earlier tonight. South Carolina defeated the top seed in the West Region, Washington State, last week 78-63.

Henning and Carroto definitely had a couple of great games off the bench

Casually noticing Virginia & Virginia Tech are still in the mix too...

Yep, they’ve definitely helped a lot! Henning has really picked up his game thus second half of the season, which has been great as he was listless early this season.

                              NCAA Tournament - Elite Eight

In a thrilling Elite Eight matchup, the #8 South Carolina Gamecocks narrowly edged out the #2 West Virginia Mountaineers 76-74 to win the West Regional and advance to the Final Four.

Tonight's game came down to the final seconds. The Mountaineers had the ball down two points, 76-74, with time winding down. Oscar Carroto, West Virginia's best guard off the dribble, took the ball to the basket and got up a contested layup, but his shot missed and the Gamecocks' Damion Ely hauled in the rebound and ran out the final second to secure the huge win for the Cinderella team from Columbia, SC.

The Gamecocks were led by Darrel Smallwood, who scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Christian Worthy, who added 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Damion Ely contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds, just one rebound short of a double-double.

The Mountaineers' top performers included Stefon Hull with 16 points and Belton Mombollet, who scored 15 points and made 3 steals in his final collegiate game. Oscar Carroto also came off the bench to chip in 13 points.

South Carolina held a slight lead at halftime, 39-36. The Gamecocks shot an efficient 53% (31-for-59) from the floor and held West Virginia to just 4-for-13 from three-point range, just a game after the Mountaineers made 19 three-point baskets against California in the West Regional Semifinal.

With this victory, South Carolina (26-12) advances to the Final Four where they will face off against No. 7-seeded Maryland, who beat Virginia 86-82 to advance out of the East Region, while West Virginia (32-7) sees their impressive season come to an end.

"It's always sad to see your season end," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell, "and tonight is no different. Still, we have a lot to be thankful for this season, and we have a lot to build on for next year."

Tough way to end the season. But a trip to the Elite 8 is nothing to hang their heads about!
