      #2 West Virginia (22-4) vs. #17 Notre Dame (18-7, 9-3)
      Joyce Center
      South Bend, IN
      February 9th, 2038

Quintin Rivers poured in 31 points, and Austen Simon added 24 as No. 17 Notre Dame (18-7, 9-3) stunned No. 2 West Virginia (22-4, 8-4) with a 104-86 victory, handing the Mountaineers their second straight loss.

The Fighting Irish put on an offensive clinic, shooting 57% from the field and an impressive 15/17 from the free-throw line. Dominating the boards, Notre Dame grabbed eight offensive rebounds to West Virginia's one and outrebounded the Mountaineers 34-22 overall.

Notre Dame's tight defense forced 11 turnovers while only giving up four themselves. They exploded for 58 first-half points, leading 58-47 at halftime. Although their offensive pace slowed slightly in the second half, they still managed to finish with a season-high 104 points.

West Virginia's offense also performed well, shooting 53% from the field and making almost half their threes (14/31), but they couldn't keep up with the surging Fighting Irish.

In addition to Rivers and Simon, Johnathan Meno, Troy Kemp, and Anthony Ozier each contributed 11 points for Notre Dame, and Kemp grabbed seven boards

Stefon Hull paced West Virginia with an impressive 25 points, including seven threes on 13 attempts. Oscar Carroto chipped in 19 points and five assists, shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Seven-foot freshman center Tremmell Amerson nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds on 5-for-5 shooting.

A visibly frustrated West Virginia head coach James Frizzell acknowledged his team's defensive shortcomings, saying, "We simply have to play better defensively. I'll give credit where it's due, and [Notre Dame] played great, but we looked lost out there a lot on the defensive end of the floor, and that has to change as we head into March."

West Virginia will try to bounce back from their two-game slide when they travel to Milwaukee, WI, to face Marquette on Saturday.

Congrats on win number 900! Huge milestone!

It seems like coach may have celebrated for too long though, dropping the next two games in a row. Ouch.

            February 13th, 2038

Stefon Hull put up an impressive 27 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, powering No. 2 West Virginia (23-4, 9-4) to a high-scoring 95-84 victory over Marquette (12-13, 6-7) tonight in Milwaukee, WI.

Hull's stellar performance included a 7-of-12 shooting display from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Carson Lavender contributed significantly to the Mountaineers' win with 21 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Oscar Carroto provided a boost from the bench, adding 16 points and five assists while shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range. Barry Henning also chipped in with 10 points.

For the Golden Eagles, point guard Younes Munns led in scoring with 25 points and also dished out four assists. Ross Detrick tallied 22 points and five assists, while Marko Delgado contributed 13 points.

Marquette managed to keep pace with the heavily favored Mountaineers largely due to their free-throw shooting. The Golden Eagles attempted 25 free throws, sinking 19 of them. In contrast, West Virginia made only five trips to the charity stripe.

West Virginia will look to build on their success as they host Seton Hall on Monday night.

                February 15th, 2038

In a dramatic finish, Stefon Hull nailed a contested three-pointer at the buzzer to secure an 81-78 victory for No. 2 West Virginia (24-4, 10-4) over Seton Hall (16-13, 9-5).

Seton Hall held a 33-31 advantage at halftime and even led by seven points early in the second half before the game turned into a back-and-forth battle. The Pirates missed a crucial shot in the closing seconds, allowing the Mountaineers to push the ball past halfcourt and call a timeout with three seconds remaining. Hull's game-winning shot capped off the thrilling contest.

"I was having a good game out there, and that was a contested, low-percentage shot, but sometimes they just go in," Hull remarked about his game-winner. "Sometimes, you're better lucky than good."

Hull delivered an outstanding performance for West Virginia, scoring 30 points on 12-for-19 from the floor. The junior, known for scoring from beyond the arc, showcased his versatility by doing most of his damage from two-point range tonight. Carson Lavender was the only other Mountaineer to score in double figures, contributing 12 points. Belton Mombollet had an off night offensively, hitting just four of his 12 shots, but he managed to secure a career-high 15 rebounds.

For Seton Hall, senior Ross Amous recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jonpaul Becker led the Pirates in scoring with 17 points, while Gordon Ross added 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman Laron Blanks chipped in 10 points and six assists.

West Virginia now looks ahead to their next challenge, as they travel to the Carrier Dome to face the Syracuse Orange.

                        February 25th, 2038

Sophomore guard Emerson Grkovic put on an incredible shooting display, going 10-for-12 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, as the South Florida Bulls (13-14, 6-9) pulled off a stunning 88-83 upset over the No. 2-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers (25-5, 11-5) at home tonight.

Grkovic, who scored 27 points, was supported by Jonathan Willis, who posted 15 points and six assists, and Benjamin Casey, who also scored 15 points.

The Bulls maintained the lead throughout the contest, extending it to double digits in the second half. The Mountaineers managed to trim the deficit to just three points in the final minutes, but South Florida's clutch shooting and free throws down the stretch kept them ahead until the buzzer.

Key to South Florida's upset of the nation's second-ranked team was their hot shooting. The Bulls connected on 56% (35/62) of their field goals and were perfect from the free-throw line, making all 12 attempts. Their only struggles came from beyond the arc, where they hit only six of their 18 shots, and on the glass, where West Virginia held a 29-23 edge.

Stefon Hull led the Mountaineers with 24 points, including six three-pointers. Senior power forward Belton Mombollet contributed 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Oscar Carroto added 11 points and four steals off the bench.

West Virginia will aim to bounce back on Sunday against DePaul on Senior Night.

Stefon Hull delivered 22 points and grabbed five rebounds, leading No. 2 West Virginia (26-5, 12-5) to a 77-66 victory over DePaul (9-19, 3-13) on Senior Night.

Hull was accompanied by Joshua Wilkerson, who contributed 18 points, and Carson Lavender, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Although the Mountaineers found themselves trailing the last-place Blue Demons 35-33 at halftime, they rallied in the second half, outpacing DePaul 44-31 to secure a double-digit win.

DePaul's top scorer, Geoffrey Daniel, tallied 16 points but struggled with his shooting, making only five of his 18 attempts. Freshman forward Harvey Campbell nearly achieved a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The only senior on West Virginia's roster, Belton Mombollet, had a challenging night, plagued by foul trouble. The 6'9" senior saw just 17 minutes of action, recording four points, four rebounds, and one block.

West Virginia now has a five-day break before heading to Cincinnati, OH, to face the Cincinnati Bearcats in their final regular-season game next Saturday.

Stefon Hull shined with 19 points and an impressive five three-pointers, propelling No. 3 West Virginia (27-5, 12-5) to a commanding 96-82 win over Cincinnati (17-14, 9-9) tonight. This victory served as sweet revenge for the Mountaineers, who suffered an 81-79 overtime loss to the Bearcats just a month ago in Morgantown.

West Virginia wasted no time asserting their dominance, amassing a 27-point lead by halftime. Cincinnati found themselves trailing by as much as 32 points early in the second half, but the Mountaineers put it on cruise control down the stretch, which allowed the Bearcats to reduce the final deficit to a more respectable 14 points.

In addition to Hull, several key contributors emerged for West Virginia, with Carson Lavender notching 12 points and seven rebounds, Belton Mombollet adding 12 points and five boards, and Joshua Wilkerson contributing 12 points and four assists. Oscar Carroto proved invaluable off the bench, hitting four three-pointers and accumulating 18 points and five rebounds.

Cincinnati's efforts were led by Emmett Atkins, who scored a team-high 19 points. Clay Smith chipped in with 18 points, while senior center Peter Randolph provided a spark off the bench, contributing 10 points to the Bearcats' score.
