    GAME RECAP

Coach Matt Miller had done it.. Completing Goal #1 (Beat Michigan) Goal #2 (Win Big Ten Title) and Goal #3 (Make Playoffs).. Now the question is when and how does this story end..

Oregon opened up the game with the ball and quickly scored as SR RB Sean Kowalksi (85) caps a 7 play drive with a 34 yd TD run.

Ohio State however answers back with a touchdown of their own as AJ Breida hits JR WR Terron Pappoe (73 yds) with what would be the first of 5 touchdowns on the day (7-7).

After forcing the Ducks to punt OSU would take the lead with a Monty Carty 30 yd FG to make it (10-7) as we head to the 2nd Quarter.

Breida would own the Ducks in the 2nd Quarter finding Pappoe for another score to extend the lead to (17-7) and then after SO CB Von Ibrahim picks off Oregon SO QB Stephen Blunt (84) Breida finds SR TE Ryan Pierre on a 21 yd scoring strike to make it (24-7) as we head into the half.

Ohio State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and Breida went right back to work hitting Jabu Gayton on a 16 yd touchdown to cap a 9 play drive to make it (31-7)..

Oregon would answer back with a 10 play drive ending with a 1 yd Jet Sweep to SO WR Richard Goings (82) to cut the lead back to (31-14).

Still 31-14 as we enter the 4th, Oregon starts the 4th Quarter scoring settling for a 25 yd FG to make it (31-17). Ohio State responds with Pounds 5th TD of the day as he completes the Bucks longest drive of the day (14 plays) with a 4 yd TD pass to Guyton as OSU extends the lead to (38-17) with just 3:12 to play in the game.

Down by 3 scores, you could tell the Ducks sorta raised the white flag of surrender as Blunt leads a non-hurry up offense down the field. Oregon would manage to convert a 4th and 5 to keep the drive alive and they did find the endzone as SO HB Tye Ingram (77) caps off the drive with a 15 yd TD run but with only 1:30 to play this game was all but over.

The Ducks would try and kick the onside, but the Buckeyes recover and Miller not taking any chances would have the team run off the remainder of the clock...

Blunt finished the day (21/29 (72%) for 303 yds with the 1 INT in the loss.

    KEY BUCKS

    QB AJ Breida-21/24 (87%) 336 yds 5 TD, sacked 2 times, 14 yds rushing
    RB M. Grubbs-11 carries 70 yds, 2 rec 21 yds
    RB A Johnson-6 carries 19 yds, 2 rec 16 yds
    WR T. Pappoe-4 rec 130 yds 2 TD
    WR J. Gayton-8 rec 101 yds 2 TD
    WR G. Alexander-3 rec 40 yds
    TE R. Pierre-2 rec 21 yds

    Coach Miller
"This was by far Breida's best game this season. Any chance of putting together some wins and making a run at the Natty will need more of these type games."

      MWC

San Jose bounced back from their disappointing loss to Wyoming that ended their perfect season with a (31-9) win over Nevada, but despite a (12-1) record the Spartans are still just #15 in the rankings and will miss the playoffs.

tough loss for the Panthers. The loss shouldn't drop them too far though, so they should still get into the 1st round of the playoffs.

On the other hand, looks like the Michigan win and the Big 10 CCG win propelled you guys into a bye! Nice work. Hopefully Brieda can keep up the mistake free football for a Natty run

          SELECTION SUNDAY

With #1 Miami securing the ACC title over #4 FIU, it was a no brainer that the Hurricanes would secure the #1 seed.

#3 K-State jumped to #2 with their win over TCU in the Big 12 title game and with the Oregon Ducks loss in the Big Ten title game, they secure the #2 seed. The Ducks drop to #3 in the rankings with their loss and secure the #5 seed in the playoffs as the highest ranked team that didn't win their conference.

Despite being ranked #9 going into the Big Ten title game and beating #2 Oregon. Ohio State only moved up 2 spots to #7, but Ohio State secures the #3 seed in the playoffs and a 1st Round Bye as they are higher ranked then Miss State (SEC Champ).

Boise State claims the last Top-4 seed at #4 with the Pac-12 Championship.. Boise State joins Miami as the only teams in the country to finish a perfect 13-0.

Despite losing back to back games to Miami, FIU still managed to hold onto the #4 spot in the rankings and as the Panthers secure the #6 seed and a chance to host in Round 1.

North Carolina finished the season ranked #5 and secures the #7 seed.

Notre Dame finished the year ranked #8 despite a (9-3) record. The Irish claim the #8 seed.

The Defending National Champs (9-3) Virginia Tech will join them as the #9 seed, as Derek Hawkins quest for a Natty will start in South Bend and will have to go through #1 Miami in Round 2.

Another (9-3) ACC team is head to the playoffs as the ACC secures 5 of the 12 spots as Virginia lands at #10 in the rankings and secures the #10 seed.

(10-3) Mississippi State won the SEC Championship and with it jumped to #11 in the final rankings securing the #11 seed and a 1st round matchup with FIU.

(11-2) Purdue's win in the American Championship secured them the #12 spot in the rankings and they do indeed grab the #12 seed as they will take on Oregon for a chance at Ohio State.

            GAME RECAP

Coming off 2 straight loss's after a 11-0 start, the FIU Panthers came out and dominated the Miss State Bulldogs taking a commanding 35-0 lead in the 1st half and cruising to the Round 1 win.

FIU opened up the game with the ball as Pound leads a 8 play drive ending in a 1 yd TD run by RS FR Tim Trinidad to put the Panthers up (7-0).. FIU would miss a opportunity to extend the lead to (10-0) as Taj Dozier misses a 52 yd FG to close out the 1st Quarter.

FIU however would explode in the 2nd Quarter scoring 28 unanswered as Terrance Cantwell kicked things off with the first score making it (14-0) then it was RS FR QB Kevin Pounds showing off his arm as he throws 3 TD's including a pair to former 5* WR Emari Boenzi before hooking up with fellow SO WR Walter Abiamiri on a 56 yd bomb to close out the 1st half with the (35-0) lead.

Miss State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and had a solid 11 play drive going before having to settle for a 33 yd FG to make it (35-3) The FIU offense went right back to work as Pounds throws TD #4 hitting Cantwell out of the slot for a 19 yd score to extend the lead to (42-3) as we head to the 4th.

The Bulldogs opened up the 4th Quarter with a touchdown as JR QB Julius Bowe (81) connects on a 10 yd score to SO TE Eric Fina (82) to make it (42-10) The Bulldog Defense then stepped up forcing the first Panther punt on the day, but Bowe would throw a INT to OLB James King giving it right back to the FIU Offense.

The Panthers would look to run off some clock as Cantwell,Ware and Trinidad combine for 14 plays and 88 yds including a Trinidad's 2nd rushing TD of th day as the big 6'3 225lb power back shows off his elite speed too with a 18 yd run before capping the drive with a 1 yd touchdown..

Mississippi State had 1 more chance on offense but after picking up 1 4th down conversion to keep the drive alive they stall again turning the ball over on downs.. FIU would run out the clock as they advance for a Round 2 matchup with #4 seed Boise State.

Bowe finished the game 26/41 (63%) 274 yds 1 TD 1 INT, sacked twice well rushing 7 times for 20 yds

#8 Notre Dame defeated #9 Virginia Tech (27-24) ending the Hokies run at a repeat. With the win the Irish will advance for a matchup with #1 Miami in the Orange Bowl as the Hurricanes basically get a 2nd round Home matchup for the 2nd straight year.

Yeah it was a good game, but gave up 2 many big plays.. Sucks that's the 2nd loss this season, where I score to early and give the CPU a chance to comeback and win the game.. Their QB (Legend Coffee) has had a amazing season... I forgot the post the reward show, but after the win over FIU in Week 14 he jumped into the Heisman talk at #2 and then after leading the Canes to the ACC title with another win over FIU he passed Pounds in the voting and took down the Heisman with 4052 yds with 41 TD and 9 INT so far this season. He was also named the National POY and won the Best QB award

                  2032 COLLEGE FOOTBALL AWARDS

So I forgot to post the Reward show prior to playing my 1st Round matchup of FIU vs Miss State, so I thought i would get it posted now before moving forward.

                  LEGEND COFFEE

For most of the season FIU's Kevin Pounds, Ohio State AJ Breida and Washington's Zach Wire were pretty much the Top-3 when it came to the discussion for the Heisman and Maxwell, but after leading #1 Miami to back to back win over FIU and Kevin Pounds, JR QB Legend Coffee shot to the top and became a 3 time winner tonight taking home the Heisman, the Maxwell National POY) and the Davey O'Brien Awards. (Best QB), leaving Washington the only Senior of the previous trio to take home the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm given to the Best Senior QB.

Coffee a 3 year starter for the U has put together a record setting type career and will go down in the history books as the leader in Passing Yards and TD's should he return to Miami for his Senior season.

What's odd about this year, is this isn't even Coffee's best season.

                  FR- 4070 yds 40 TD 9 INT 64% completion, 82 carries 199 yds 1 TD
                  SO-4430 yds 48 TD 3 INT 64% completion, 93 carries 252 yds 5 TD
                  *JR-4052 yds 41 TD 9 INT 60% completion,79 carries 237 yds 1 TD

                  DOAK WALKER

Despite missing the Week 14 matchup with Miami, FIU's SR Terrance Cantwell edges out Ohio State's Mike Grubbs for the Doak Walker making it 5 straight seasons a Panther has won (Logan won 3 straight and they Boyce won last year)..

Cantwell finished the regular season with 201 carries and 992 yds with 14 TD's on the ground.

Grubbs had 213 carries for 1087 yds but only 12 TD's.

Some would say neither Cantwell or Grubbs deserved to finish #1/#2 as several other RB's had some pretty solid seaons this year.

Bowling Green's SR RB Stephen Frost actually led the nation in rushing (243 carries 1376 yds) but scored just 4 TD's.

Jacksonville State's JR RB Willie Doyle had 237 carries for 1288 yds and 10 TD
Ole Miss's SR RB Keke Noriega had 214 carries for 1112 yds and 8 TD
Colorado's SR RB Derek Rambo had 241 carriesfor 1092 yds and 9 TD
USC's SR RB Jabari Davis had 179 carries for 1066 yds and 12 TD
La Tech SO RB Kerry Mesko had 214 carries for 980 yds and 12 TD

                  FREDDY B

The "Best WR" award went to RS F Emmett Sylvan (Purdue) who finished with a nation best 89 rec for 1520 yds and 16 TD.. However he had some solid competition this year as well

RS SO Darmarious Handy (Cincy) had 75 rec for 1314 yds and 17 TD
SO Tyler Vasquez (Ole Miss) had 71 rec 1294 yds 19 TD
SO Emari Boenzi (FIU) had 88 rec 1229 yds 14 TD
JR Shaq Garnes (Auburn) had 70 rec for 1201 yds 19 TD
JR Ahmad Dora (ECU) had 78 rec for 1172 yds and 17 TD
JR Max Shorter (Michigan) had 79 rec 1116 yds and 17 TD

                  MACK ATTACK

JR TE James Stevens (Ole Miss) took home the Mackey Award "Best TE" finishing the year with 73 rec for 873 yds 6 TD

                  DPOY

The Charlotte 49er's had a amazing season winning 10 games including the CUSA Championship and JR DE Ofisa Vakapuna was a huge reason.

Vakapuna finished with 58 Tackles this season but led the nation with 22.5 sacks which earned him the Defensive Player of the Year, the Lombardi as well as Best DE..

                  COACHES OF THE YEAR

Boise State coming off a 13-0 season, swept the Coaches of the Year Award and the Broyles.

HC Date Murfee was named the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year well OC Bo Carden won the Broyles given to the nation's best coordinator.. DC Jason Robinson finished #2.

**Reports on the street is Murfee has accepted the HC job at Nebraska following the Broncos run in the playoffs. No word yet if Carden or Robinson will succeed him.. Multiple sources claim BSU did call and ask for a buyout # in or to try and secure Matt Miller's return to the Broncos.

                  TANDY TAKES HOME HARDWARE

The Buckeyes were not completely left out of the Awards show this season as FR WR Ezekiel Tandy was named as the nation's "Best Returner" Tandy had 20 KR for 512 yds (25.6 avg) including a 96 yd return for a TD.. He also had 36 PR for 42 yds (11.9 avg)

                    GAME RECAP

No Coach Miller,, it didn't matter FIU went old school as former Panther QB now OC Clayton Dees calls on a former Panther gameplan rushing the ball 39 times for 407 yds and 3 score as FIU dominated the #3 seeded previously undefeated Boise State Broncos.

BSU came into the game as the 4th best Offense in the nation with almost 5000 yds of Total Offense well averaging over 32 PPG, but the FIU Defense shut down the Broncos attack holding BSU to just 218 yds of Offense well BSU went 0/11 on 3rd down conversions.

FIU opened up the 1st Quarter with just a (7-0) lead but the Panthers would add 3 touchdowns in the 2nd Quarter including a 80 yd TD run by QB Kevin Pounds in the final seconds of the 1st half and 3 more in the 3rd including opening up the 2nd half scoring with a 85 yd TD run by Terrance Cantwell to take a commanding (49-0) lead.

It looked like FIU might actually pull off a shutout but a fumble by Terrance Cantwell on the opening play of the 4th Quarter set up the Broncos with decent field position as SO WR Cam Kaddu (76) takes a Jet Sweep 28 yds for the score to make it (49-7).

FIU had a chance to take on a late score but instead would send out SR PK Taj Dozier to attempt a 52 yd FG but his kick was wide left.

Boise State QB SO Tua Savoie came into the game having thrown for over 3400 yds on the season with 29 TD and just 8 INT well completing over 70% of his pass's but was 19/28 (67%) today throwing for 165 yds.

                      GAME RECAP

Using a similar game plan as OC Clayton Dees drew up for the FIU Panthers in their Peach Bowl win over Boise State, Coach Matt Miller did the same in the Buckeyes win over Purdue in the Cotton Bowl.

OSU would run the ball a season high 44 times for a season high 414 yds and for another season high 6 touchdowns.

SR RB Mike Grubbs was named the games' MVP as Grubbs scores the hat trick with 2 rushing TD's in the 1st Quarter to give OSU the (14-0) lead and he would score the game clincher with a 71 yd run late in the 4th Quarter as Purdue mounts a comeback behind their backup QB.

Grubbs finished the day with a career high 257 yds on 24 carries (10.7 avg).

Grubbs wasn't the only Buckeye rusher having a solid game as both RS SO Dave Jones and Anfernee Simmons both go over 50 yds on the day well QB AJ Breida added 31 yds and FB Eric Tryon even toted the rock 4 times for 23 yds (5.8 avg) picking up valuable 1st Downs.

Leading (28-10) at the half both teams would manage scores in the 3rd Quarter to make it (35-17) going into the 4th Quarter, and that's when Purdue would start their comeback.

RS FR Duane Hodel (75) started the game at QB and looked amazing completing 10/11 (90%) for 124 yds and 2 TD's , but late in the 3rd Quarter Hodel leaves the game with JR QB Trey Silvestro (81) taking over.. Silvestro would throw a pair of touchdowns in the 4th Quarter to RS FR Emmett Sylvan (78) including a 82 yd bomb and with a pair of 2pt conversion the Boilermakers were back in the ball game (42-36) with 1:55 to play.

Everyone in the Stadium assumed that Purdue would try for the onside kick attempt but the Boilermakers kickoff deep as Ohio State takes over at the 20 yd line. After a 9 yd run by Grubbs, Purdue would send the house blitzing both Safeties up the middle but Grubbs bounces the handoff to the outside breaking a tackle and then sees nothing but daylight as he goes 71 yds for the final score of the game as Ohio State advances to the Semi Finals for the first time since 2024.

Silvestro finished the game 10/16 (62%) for 228 yds with the 2 TD.

                      KEY BUCKS

                      QB AJ Breida-17/25 (68%) 218 yds 1 TD, sacked 1 time, 6 carries 31 yds 1 TD
                      RB M. Grubbs-24 carries 257 yds 3 TD

                      RB A. Johnson-4 carries 51 yds 1 TD, 3 carries 11 yds 1 TD

                        ORANGE BOWL

#8 Notre Dame did it's best to try and upset #1 Miami as this game went to Triple OT.. Tied (7-7) at the end of the 1st, and again (14-14) at half and again (21-21) at the end of the 3rd, Miami ties it up again in the 4th Quarter with a FG to tie the game (38-38) at the end of regulation.

Both teams would trade FG's in the opening series and again in series #2, but now facing the rule of must going for it, The Irish would turn the ball over for the first time in the game as SO RB Gio Shaw (88) coughs up the fumble. The Hurricanes would then kick FG #3 to end it (41-38) to advance to the Semi Finals for a rematch with Coach Miller.

Coffee finished the game 22/36 (61%) for 334 yds with 4 TD. He was sacked 5 times but still managed 36 positive rushing yards on 8 carries.

SO RB Roy Flowers had 8 carries for 56 yds with 2 TD, well SR RB Tracey Lamur had 6 carries for 35 yds

                        FIESTA BOWL

Down (17-7) at the half, UNC pulls off a 2nd half comeback outscoring K-State (17-0) for the (24-17) victory as the Wildcats turn the ball over twice with a chance to tie the game.

SO QB Dion Tolbert (UNC) was just 9/13 (69%) for 130 yds but did throw 3 TD's.

UNC will advance to the Semi Finals for the first time in school history as giving the ACC 3 out of 4 teams with the chance to win the National Championship 1 year after Virginia Tech did it last year.

Miami vs OSU for a chance at the Natty. Would have been nice for FIU to have to beat the Canes to get in, but also setting up a potential OSU vs FIU Natty in year 1 is nice

I am pretty sure at this point FIU is okay not having to play Miami potentially.

It's gong to be fun.. Like last year when I didn't play V.T. during the regular season before losing to them in the Semi's, I didn't play UNC this year either.. In fact FIU hasn't played UNC since Year 1 when we made the move to the ACC.

Coach Miller vs the Cane's makes for a nice story.. ECU (3 loss's) and Miami (6 loss's) are the only teams to have beaten Coach Miller more then 2 times.. Miller only had 19 loss's in his career, so Miami pretty much his biggest
rivalry. I sorta suck at keeping coaching records, but I know I have 2 loss's to Liberty, and Notre Dame and 2 loss's to Penn State, 1 well at FIU and 1 well at OSU.

Welcome to Buckeye Weekly.. We are just 1 day away from the Semi-Final matchup between #4 Seed Ohio State and #1 Seed Miami.. We are lucky enough today to be joined by 1st year Head Coach Matt Miller as we talk some Buckeye Football..

Tony-Coach it's great to have you thank you so much for taking time out of your schedule to join us.

MM-No problem guy's I love being included in these podcasts...

Tom-Coach first let me congratulate you on the year you have had so far.. Last year things were looking pretty dim here in Columbus.. (5-6) going into the Michigan game and well we finished with a win and a Bowl win to close out the year, I think I can speak for every Buckeye fan we knew we need a change.. You came in and brought back the old Buckeye ways of winning Day 1.. You had a couple bumps in the road (Penn State and Wisconsin) but you beat Michigan, beat Oregon to win the Big Ten title and now beat Purdue to get the Bucks to the Semi's.. Could you have written a better 1st Chapter to your story?

MM- I don't think so Tom.. It's been pretty unreal.. This team is loaded with talent.. AJ Breida is a pretty special QB, one of the nation's best and a future NFL 1st Round pick. We have a great group of Seniors. Mike Grubbs is one of the best RB's in the country, we got a great Receiving core and we got some kids who work super hard on Defense.

Tony- Coach you mentioned AJ Breida and the fact he is a future 1st Round Pick in the NFL.. What can you tell us about the Rumors this is AJ's last season. Is it true he is forgoing his Senior year and declaring early.

MM-AJ and I talk every day.. We have had some great conversations about his future.. Yeah it's true, NFL scouts predict he will most likely be a 1st Round pick this year. Possibly even the 1st QB taken.. Some scouts prefer him over Clemson's Garrison Stratton (91).. I think Colorado's Floyd Toure (93) is also probably in the mix as the first QB off the board. Next year's class is loaded with Coffee (Miami) Witt (Notre Dame), Silvestro (Purdue), Blunt (Oregon), Levrone (Penn State).. I really think it's going to come down to whether or not any of those guy's declare early as well and I think it will depend on how we finish.. I honestly don't know if AJ's story ends without a Natty on his resume or not.

Tom-Coach.. Recruiting started out pretty rough for you. You lost out on the guy we all hoped with be AJ's replacement and the next great Buckeye QB.. It looks like you have done a pretty solid job of landing a few 4* guy's but can any of them be that guy?

MM- To be honest Tom, I do really like the a couple of the guy's we landed. Killings has alot of Qualities we love and the fact he wanted to be a Buckeye so bad he signed Day 1 tells me he has the heart we are searching for. But the truth is we have 2 guy's already on the roster that we really like.. Well neither played a snap this year, we have seen #3 QB Vince Redziniak in practice every week as well a Melo Sampson.. If AJ leaves then Camp will be our time to find out who steps up.. We will be doing the same thing at RB. Dave Jones has given us glimpses he can be that guy (24 carries 137 yds 2 TD, 5.7 avg) but we also love Freddie Tam and we love the guy's we got coming in..

Tony-Coach I have to ask.. Reports are you have let DC Akem Rhattigan go and have hired a new DC.. Is that true?

MM-Yes. I actually informed Coach Rhatt after the win over Oregon in Championship Week.. I appreciate everything he has done for the program, but our Defense ranked in the bottom 3rd in the Big Ten and we were in the bottom half in the entire country.. We only had 35 sacks this season and only had 14 turnovers including just 12 INT's. Well our Offense has been great under Coach Phoenix (40.8 PPG leading the nation), we needed to make a change.. I have hired Cornell Sneed.. Coach Sneed spent last year on staff at Western Michigan where he helped the Broncos to a 8-5 record and his Defense managed to hold opponent to just 22.8 PPG and they created almost over 25 turnovers.. He also has alot of recruiting ties to not just Michigan but Missouri as well.

Tom- Coach, we have heard that Boise State's Datt Murfee has taken the HC job at Nebraska and that the Broncos called OSU asking about your buyout. Can you go into any details about that as well as any other job offers you have gotten so far..

MM-It's true, BSU called but I was very clear with them as well as several other schools I have no intentions of leaving OSU before at least Year 3.. I personally have a stake in the buyout until then. After that in Year 4 and Year 5, whatever hiring school that want's me would be responsible for a 10 million dollar buyout. Right now it would cost me 5 million personally and 5 million for the next school.. I didn't come here to use OSU as a jumping block to my dream school.. BSU has proven in the last 4 years that sadly the HC job will be open again.. I still feel deep in my heart that the Broncos made a huge mistake when they let Coach D go.

Tony-You guy's have Miami tomorrow.. Your Coach record lifetime is 103-19. You actually have the most wins of any current HC in the nation and the highest winning %. You have never won less then 9 games since you started your career as a HC.. You have been to 6 Semi Final games and have won 2 National Championships in your first 8 years as a HC.. But of those 19 loss's 6 of them are to the Hurricanes.. Does that factor into your game plan for tomorrow?

MM-Well thanks for bringing that up Tony.. To be honest I had no idea I was the leader in wins among active coaches.. I knew going in I was close to chasing down some guys like Coach Sark, Coach Freeman, Coach Smart, ect.. but I guess I hadn't realized I passed them. Yeah playing Miami is huge.. It's been a battle for sure, but we knocked them out of the playoffs last year and so with that said I am 1-0 lifetime against them in the playoffs and I plan on making it 2-0 after tomorrow.. I have to give Coach Dees credit.. We talked alot this week about his game plan against the Broncos and he told me he was going to go "Wolverine" on them and he did. In fact he was the one that helped me with the idea to ride the run game against Purdue too.. We have talked alot this week.. We obviously have watched alot of game film this year of both of FIU's matchup's this year as well as previous year's matchups well I was at FIU too.

Tom-Coach Well it looks like are out of time but we would love to have you back on maybe after the the season ends.

                              MM--Anytime guy's I would love that.

Good luck against Miami, Deuce. Question for you. Who do you like running the offense better with, Pounds, or Brieda?
