I'm trying to convince my wife to let me buy the Taylormade Burner 2.0 set of clubs. It's pretty expensive so it will be hard to convince here. I have heard great things about them and I think I might go up to Dick's Sporting Goods later this week and test them out.

What is the trade in value of your current clubs. Dicks is/was doing a deal where if you buy new '13 clubs you get a 50% bump in the trade in value of your old club(s). That said are the burner 2.0's new for 13?

Had to cancel our first golf league matches of the season tonight. 42, windy, rainy, and foggy.

Sigh....next week is Memorial Day, so we can't start until June 3 now.

Not sure. I bought a starter set from Dick's so probably not much and my 3 wood broke so that would detract from the value also.

I believe the 2.0's came out last year... I think.
They are 349 right now.
The Callaway Diablo Edge Irons are 299 right now so give those a check also.

I'd recommend checking out Ebay. You can get a full set of Burner 2.0's for under $300 there.

Starting to take lessons and bought a cheap starter set of clubs from Amazon. I'm pretty bad but having a blast learning so far!

So I went and tried them out and pulled the trigger on the Burner 2.0's. They didn't have my irons and hybrids in stock so I have just the driver and 3 wood right now but I went to try out the driver today. Oh my goodness what a difference. I am not as consistent with it yet, as opposed to consistently hooking to the right with the old driver, but I hit some booming shots today and I think I may go hit the golf course tomorrow if the rain can keep away and see just how much a difference that driver makes in my game.

Sorry for the double post but I couldn't resist the urge and I went out and played 9 holes today with my new driver and 3 wood.

I started off well with a nice easy swing and drove the ball about 180 on the first hole about 2 yards to the right of the fairway. That would be last one I would miss on the day. I didn't start off so well on my chips and putting and ended up +8 after the first 3 holes. 4 was a par 3 and I hit the green on the first shot. Just missed my second for birdie and got a par. 5 I got another double bogie to put me at +10 after 5. Now this is usually what my benchmark is. I try to get double bogie at the max on every hole and then I'll have some slightly above that and some slightly below and I usually play pretty well with that goal.

Hole #6 is a 341 par 4. I decided on this hole to try to hit as hard as I can with the driver and see what happens. I hit a 227 yard drive in the middle of the fairway. My second shot landed about 5 feet to the left of the pin on the green and rolled past it but stayed on the green. I unfortunately 3 putted it and ended up with a bogey but it was a great GIR hole.

Hole #7 is a 485 par 5. Well 237 yards later I am in the middle of the fairway and feeling good. I hooked my 3 wood to the right on the next shot to get in rage of my pitching wedge. My 3rd shot I hit just past the green onto a hill behind it. 4th was a terrible chip that was about 4-5 yards away from the green. So I chipped again on 5 hoping to get closer and low and behold the ball rolled in. My second par on the front 9.

Hole 8 was a par 3 and I got a double bogie on it, not much to say there.

Hole 9 is a 391 yard par 4. I crushed my drive on this one at 249 yards, the furthest ball I have ever hit. Once again in the middle of the fairway. My second shot was right in front of the 150 yard marker and I landed it just to the left of the green. 3 was a chip onto the green. 4 was a putt that just missed and 5 was an easy bogie.

All the times I have played I have shot significantly better on the back 9 than on the front 9. I shot a 50 on the front 9 today and it has me wondering if I would have hit my all time low or broken 100 if I played all 18. However, I played late and the sun would have gone away before I could finish because I was walking.

I am now very eagerly anticipating getting my irons and hybrids to see how much I can improve my game with them also. The driver was stupendous. I missed 1 fairway on the round. I can swing very softly and hit it about 180 and low down the middle or I can hit hard and get about 230 on average also on the fairway.

I am in love with the game of golf right now and I have also recently found myself with a lot of time on my hands and I will probably have less money in my pockets because of it.

Playing in my first big tournament in over 5 years starting Friday.

Getting a little nervous, as I haven't played competitively in a while. Hopefully the swing holds up and I can throw up a couple low numbers and be in it at the end. Going in with really low expectations though.

I really want to play in tournaments but I haven't practiced all too much recently.

To quickly chime in on the grips discussion a few pages back, I use two grips. I use the ten finger grip for my driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. For my hybrid and irons I have my pinky finger on my bottom hand overlap my index finger on my top hand. They don't interlock.

Oh and I did end up purchasing the Nike Covert Performance 3 wood. My bag is now complete.
