    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Another great practice session today with accuracy and distance control.
My only issue is a slight OTT swing with driver.
It's not as bad as it was a year ago, and it's manageable. It's basically giving me a 10-15 yard fade. However it's not something I want.
I just can't seem to keep the right shoulder from wanting to take over. I fight it every swing but so far "winning" but I know at the wrong time (Especially when fatigue sets in) it will win and cost me some serious strokes.

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I live in SoCal, so I'm fortunate to play year round golf. I started playing - after taking a couple years off - again in August 2015 and am officially obsessed.

For most here - from what I gathered - golf season can't get here fast enough. What I haven't seen are 2016 golf goals.

My index currently sits at 8.2, but my goal is to get it below 6.0 before the year is over. So, I was wondering what your golf goals are for this year?

Henceforth to be known as "mistake number 1".

Welcome back to the beautiful obsession.

Personally, I don't have a particular number in mind, but I want to improve my all-around ball-striking so that I'm consistently hitting the ball on the proper part of the face with the proper swing angle of attack the majority of the time. I think once I develop a sense for how to hit the ball solidly in a repeatable way (not just every once in a while), I can start to work on some of the finer points, but until then, I'll continue to be held back by my overall ball-striking inconsistency.

            Goals:
My handicap is just under 16 (or 15) can't remember. My goal is to get that dropped a decent amount but I know it's slow going.

I want to better accuracy from 150 in which I'm very confident I will if the practices and work I did over the winter is any indication.

Lastly and most importantly is to get to all the charity tourneys and raise as much money as we can.

              .

I'm literally the exact opposite, hoping to become more efficient en route to 150 and in. Last year I drastically improved my wedge game, helped to add two wedges, and my putting is the strongest part of my game. But my driving and long iron accuracy was subpar. Planning on getting a new driver and maybe a new bag this coming Saturday at a big golf expo in Milwaukee. Now just need this snow to melt.

Ha! Taking the time off has given me perspective, so I'm actually a calmer golfer now.

Ball striking is my strength, but my putting is terrible.

Everyone is different. I know lots of guys that like to play Titleist drivers, but I don't like them. I picked up a used Callaway XR last summer and really like the way it looks at address.

I think the most important thing - in any golf club - is how comfortable you feel looking at it and the type of shaft you use. Shafts are extremely important when choosing a new club. For my driver and 3-wood I usually have the heads put on my existing shaft.

Have you ever read Dave Pelz's Short Game Bible? It's pretty good and focuses on shots less than 100 yards.

Nope I have not. I'll try and check it out
This winter I really focused on the short/mid range game a lot.

I know I love the SM5 wedges I got this year. I can really work them great so far, whether it's a low checker or a higher flight. They feel really great.

Very excited to see what the work did for me. Last night I switched my game golf tags over to my new clubs.
Hope to play tomorrow on the short course then Friday at a regular length course.

After that I guess I'll see where I'm at

After switching to Ping G30 irons last year and having my handicap drop dramatically, I got the new Ping G driver, 3, and 5 woods.
I did try the M2 and XR before buying.

Three rounds in and I'm a very happy camper.
It's almost impossible to miss hit these clubs.
I'm thoroughly impressed with Ping and their product.

I have always been a fan of Callaway drivers (over Titleist and TaylorMade). For whatever reason, they just feel good when I swing them. It's all personal and subjective, obviously. But I would add a plug for the Callaway XR.

That's awesome. Congrats mike. Gotta give her a chance, now - breaking in a new caddie is a long process!

Have my Saturday tee time all set. Pretty excited to get back out there. Still battling the tennis elbow but I bought a strap to put around my forearm, figure that and a few beers should take care of it.
