Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I'm a bit late to the goal party but my goal for 2016 is to break 70 and consistently shoot scores in the 60's by seasons end. I've put in a lot of work into my game this past winter but I've mainly focused on my approach shots form 125 yards and in. I've been seeing decent results the past month at the range so I'm eager to get out and play as soon as the rain goes away and the sun begins to shine.
My game overall is shaping up nicely. Aside from working on shots from 125 yards and in, I've been working hard on playing a fade as a stock shot and practically eliminating one side of the course. Over the past few seasons I've realized as I've gotten better that the game of golf is a game of misses. The more you can minimize your misses and control/ know where your bad shots are going to go, the better your scores will be.
Back to me playing a fade. I've maintained a straighter/ draw shot on my woods for distance but I've gone to the fade on my irons for accuracy and mainly because I can control a fade. I had developed a nasty two way miss this past season with hooks and blocks. It made playing golf rather difficult because I had lost the ability to control my golf ball. I'm no longer getting "stuck" and I my misses are usually out to the left (I'm a left handed golfer).
As for my bag, no new changes. I've tested all the new drivers this year and I gain yardage but I just can't drop my 910. It's easily one of the best drivers that's been produced since it came out 6 years ago. The sound and feel are incredible and every driver I've tested doesn't come even close to replicating my 910. Sound and feel are big for me when it comes to golf clubs and I usually won't change unless I'm comfortable with those characteristics in a golf club. So my clubs currently are:
Driver: Titleist 910 D2 set to 9.5 degrees/ open face
Woods: Titleist 910 F 3 and 5 woods (15 and 19 degree) both set to neutral face
Irons: Titleist 712 AP2 4-PW
Wedges: 52, 56, 60 Vokey SM4's
Putter: Taylormade Spider Mallet
Ball: Taylomade Tour Preferred XLast edited by SinisterAlex; 03-15-2016, 02:09 AM.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Yeah, a controllable miss is basically the most important thing once you can consistently strike the ball on the proper part of the club-face. When I used to play a lot more, I worked a controllable fade that I knew pretty well how it was going to go. Now I have 2-way misses and lot more flat-out duffs, so I have to work my way back first to hitting the ball properly on the face every time. It's a long, painful road back...I sometimes wonder why I bother. Then you have a day where you're striping high draws into tight pins and it sorta seems almost semi-worth it....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Went to the doctor last week and got some good stretches for the tennis elbow. Played twice over t weekend. The pain was till there but at least bearable now. Shot an 87 and an 84. Mainly due to some errant shots finding bunkers and 3 putting some fast greens. Easily lost 5 to 10 strokes that I won't in mid season s I feel pretty good about the game considering its MArch.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Yeah I feel like I'm ahead of the game this year. Best tip I ever got was only take your backswing back 75% and then rip through. You stay in such better balance that way. And if you had someone film you, you'd be surprised to see your club will be very close to parallel, as in your perceived 75% is really ideal. Your 100% backswing is probably going back way too far creating a breakdown.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
A good thing that I have found that has reduced my overswing, is using Extensor Action, which is a Golf Machine (TGM) term, but it has been translated better in video than TGM.
Here is Steve Elkington's practice round and towards the end of it he shows the idea behind Extensor action and what it does/feels:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Was going to attempt to get out this weekend, unfortunately we have snow still in the forecast. Early half of March was decent weather but I didn't get an opportunity, now I would have otherwise had a chance, but the weather isn't cooperating. Not sure how long this weird winter-rehash pattern will last, either.
Though I am going to pick up some fresh gear while Dick's is doing their golf-a-thon (honestly isn't all that exciting but you can find some okay deals). I just got a UA hat for $8 last weekend. After some testing I'm going to grab new balls (Chrome Soft from Callaway) and other clothes (Buy 1 Get 1 50% off).
My only goal this year is to play more than last. I'd like to be a bit more prepared and perform better at the two primary scrambles I partake in (June & November).Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Been a long couple weeks with no practice or playing.
Can't wait to get back into it. Weather (And priority family stuff) been barriers.
Hopefully I'll get out in a week or so.Joshua:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
7 rounds in so far with 5 of them in the mid 80's.
Tough tough conditions so far here in northern IL.
Wind, wet, cold, but I'm still out there almost every weekend.
Next weekend is showing sunny and 60's so I'll be out both days for sure.Comment
