I think what fistofrage was trying to say (not trying to put words in his mouth) is not that there's actually literally a "lag gene", but that some amount of lag comes from a properly sequenced swing (and therefore can be learned), but to get the extreme amounts of lag that guys like Rory and others have, there's some innate ability or body type/configuration or some otherwise unquantifiable factor that allows some guys to swing like that naturally and others to not be able to achieve those types of swings on a consistent basis. I think that's true as well.
No, but I think that's what the point of the prior comment was - he just naturally had the ability to swing like that and achieve those hyper-acute angles during his downswing. I basically can't do that even if I intentionally tried to.
Good reminder. No need to obsess over it, and everyone's swing is different. I think it's taken me a long time to come to the realization that everyone else probably already knew, but that all of us have such different bodies - height, weight, proportions, hand size, flexibility, etc. - and natural tendencies, so no 2 people can swing the club exactly the same way. As long as the general fundamental principles are there, it's probably better to do what feels comfortable for you, since when you're standing on that 1st tee and 3 other groups waiting to tee off are watching you address the ball, you're going to go back to whatever your underlying swing is anyway...
