LOL thanks, but as GAMECOCK said, I'm simply referring to the TV not providing enough bright image through my tinted shades. My room is "pitch black" enough with the drape I have that covers my window. I don't know if you saw the pictures I showed of my room (prior to getting the TV... will put up new pictures tomorrow with the stand), but I think it will show my window shade that I have which blocks out like all light. Even if it doesn't, I watch most of my stuff at night anyway.

So my 65" VT30 will be here on Wednesday, and then I'm planning on a full five days, 24 hours/per, of break-in slides using D-Nice's stuff from highdefjunkies. I also put in a request for an August or later build so the fix for floating blacks (i.e. the A-Board or SD flash fix) is in.

I figure by Monday I should have a great display, or, if it's an old build, then I just wait and wait for a replacement, LOL. Though as my wife says, I've never had a good one out of the box, so I'm fully expecting some sort of problem.

So...any thoughts on Panny Blu-ray players, specifically the BDT310? Just realized that since my receiver is only HDMI 1.3a, I won't be able to watch 3D from the PS3 (need HDMI 1.4 in the receiver, or so it seems) and the BDT310 has dual HDMI outs, so I'll have one to the receiver and one directly to the VT30.

BDT 310 is an excellent BD Player. I have the 210 & it does everything I need & more. You can't go wrong with it

JTS, the PS3 runs 3D through its software, not its hardware. Since the PS3 is a 1.3 system, it will allow 3D content in the current form its in, regardless of your HDMI cable.

The only thing it won't do is decode lossless audio in 3D, which is quite a downfall for some.

Okay, so here's a question for some of you. So my TV buzzes, no biggie (I guess). I'll have to truly test a whole movie at -15.0 dB or something and see if it's noticeable enough to care. Anyway, I'm not about eliminating the noise per se, but reducing the volume of it would be cool.

But although besides the entire point, I noticed the other night that when I plugged my headphones into my receiver's jack, I actually got a buzz inside my headphones. How is that possible? Isn't it all related to the TV? And even if they did have some sort of connection, the receiver doesn't receive anything from the TV, it does from the PS3 and the TV receives information from it. How is it that my headphones are getting the TV buzz (and it's definitely the TV buzz, because when the screen goes black to switch inputs and the buzz is gone, it also is in my headphones) when it's plugged into the receiver?

All plasma's buzz to a degree, but Sammy's are more notorious for it. I wouldn't be worried about it unless the buzz sounds very very bad. If it is very loud then there might be a problem with one of the boards. The higher ends Sammy's shouldn't buzz as much as the lower end ones from what I've read, so you should be good. Usually I hear slight buzzing if the screen goes to an all white image, other than that I rarely here buzzing. It bugged me at first, but I have since gotten used to it.

The buzz is normal and after a while you will forget is there unless the room is dead silent. But while watching tv the issue is nonexistent

In terms of the static on your headphones when plugging them into your receiver, this is also normal because Plasmas interfere with radio frequencies

Any item with RF will have issues if set next to or behind a plasma (From my experience)

Thank you both for your responses. We have a 50" Panasonic plasma downstairs, and while the room is more actively loud anyway (the kitchen light hums, and the refrigerator is always making a constant noise as well), the buzz is mostly noticeable behind the TV (which we never go behind lol).

I noticed that my TV only buzzes in front of or behind it, but not if your ears our outside of the screen range. It will still buzz slightly, but once you get in front of or behind this bad boy in any way or any distance from it, it's more than perceivable. I'll take a camera to it to show how it sounds (I want to anyway, so you can all see my new setup ).

And thanks for letting me know about the headphones thing. I never knew that about plasma screens.

Okay, I just took a couple of pictures of my room. Pardon me for not having a flash-active camera, but these should suffice.

These first few shots are different angles of my current set-up, or viewing angle that I have of my television if I were to sit on my bed and watch a movie. Keep in mind that I normally sit up at my desk if I am to play games, so I'm not too far away from my TV (23" Samsung LN-T2353H LCD HDTV wedged perfectly into the desk furniture).
















This is approximately 7 1/2 feet from my TV, and as you can see, it definitely sticks out from the back wall. This entire desk area will be replaced by my new stand and TV, which will sit much more closely to the wall (to add 6+ inches of viewing distance).

My desk will move over to the right of my room, where my window and stuff is. I cleaned out what was previously there (Rock Band drum kit and other random assortments). The desk itself comes in two, so I can detach the top portion (so I'm not obstructing my window at all, like I look out of it anyway lol) and just sit the LCD back on its old little mount. This will now be my regular work desk.







Forgive my bed not currently being made, but the back wall shows my seating position, as well as my two rear surround speakers planted behind it all. Nothing will have to be changed here.







I know you all are concerned for what I'm changing, but it will work just fine. I was simply asking for suggestions when it came to how the reconfiguring process will actually work, not necessarily whether the decision I'm making to get this TV is a good one haha.

Call this a "comparison" or what have you, but although I'm still assorting a corner of my room, here is the transformation since installing the new TV and stand (along with completely relocating my old desk and TV, as well as dismounting the top of my desk).

Gamecock am I experience the ghosting effect you get on LCDs? I am home watching my dad's panasonic plasma. Pirates of the Carribean in HD on 'E!'. It just looks so weird. Hard to explain, but when characters move it's like there is some lag in their movements. It's making me really really happy I bought a plasma because it's almost unwatchable.

its the motion smoother. he probably has it on. its so the picture doesnt blur in movements so it looks like a friggin soap opera.
I turned it off on my plasma. I would never get a tv if you couldnt turn it off.

Very nice indeed. Not feeling that center speaker being so damm wide but if it does not cover any part of the screen then its all good.

So my TV was delivered and the break-in has begun! August 2011 build, though I'm wondering if I have the "floating blacks" fix that was supposed to be in all August+ builds.

just install the latest firmware from the menu as long as you have the wifi enabled.
